How bad was it? I thought it was supposed to be getting milder but was corrected by Katybee on the other thread. So if you have had it recently how bad was it snd did you take paxlovid? Debating the vaccine next month.

I have had it twice. Once pretty early on, once a month or so ago. Last one was much worse. Very tired, feverish, sweating while freezing, etc. I have had all the boosters and will absolutely get the next one.

I had it in July after traveling abroad. This was my 2nd time having it (other time was in 2022) and it was waaaay worse this time. I took Paxlovid but didn't tolerate it well so discontinued it early. The chills were awful, fever lasted for days, and the resulting cold symptoms are still partially there. I missed the last vaccine booster so I regretted that! Will have to do better at staying up to date with them.

I have not had it yet, but have been exposed. As I mentioned in the other thread both of my parents just had it for the first time and it was worse than a cold for both of them. They both were up to date with their boosters. My mom still has a lingering cough and I think my dad still has residual affects. They both got it around July 15th. I also had a great aunt that contracted it at our family reunion in mid July and passed away within a week. Obviously she was elderly and had other issues but looked good at the reunion.
There were a bunch of people that had traveled (California, Georgia, Tennessee, and some other places) and those who got it had a variety of symptoms and varying degrees of illness. So no matter what is ‘typical’ I think that the only thing that we can definitely say about any strain is you just never know what your body’s reaction will be unfortunately.
ETA - Both of my parents are in their 80s. Neither took Paxlovid.

Two family members had it earlier this month and were very sick. This new variant isn't playing nice. The new vaccine will have protection against this version of Covid.

I've had Covid 3 times, most recently about a month ago. It wasn't the worst of the three, it was in the middle. I felt like I had the flu for about 5-6 days. I didn't take Paxlovid because it started on a cruise, and by the time I got home it was too late. Currently, I wake up with my regular energy level, but by the time my ADHD meds wear off, I have to lay down and rest for awhile. I'll take the booster in October, I think.

I read that the virus is not actually getting milder, but our bodies are developing better immunity to it—and that it’s cumulative. So the combination of having Covid and getting vaccinations over time is helping our bodies develop antibodies. But, of course, the virus is always mutating and this one has enough mutations to really escape vaccine protections. I think how sick you get depends mostly on your overall health and, honestly, dumb luck.

Hi I have it right now and it feels like the flu. I am not going to die but it’s annoying. I still taste and smell everything but my throat hurts when I swallow.
I am fully vaccinated and will get vaccinated again. My dad is 82.5 and I don’t want him to get it again. He has it now, too.

Ok I think I have been convinced. I was hoping to prevent it. I rarely go anywhere so not really worry about spreading it although I do hope to see my MIL around the holidays and can’t risk passing it in to her. Of course if she gets it it would more likely come from her grandchildren or daughter. I think she said she wasn’t getting one as she now thinks it will change her dna 🤦♀️. I assume the information came from her daughter the trumper. She had gotten them all up through last winter but will be due for one now. She has lupus so that’s why we have been so careful. We were seeing her more often but haven’t this last year.
If I get chest pains I will go see the dr this time vs waiting like I did after the last shot - didn’t realize it until about a month later that it coincided, and then the next time after our cold. I had them years ago prior to Covid and did a stress test, EKG and wore a monitor for 3 days I think it was. Nothing showed up. So I have just kind of ignored them up until the last two times where it has been worse.
ETA. I was kind of thinking our last “cold” may have been Covid. We were sick with sore throat and everything snd I swear it took forever to get over. It really sucked my energy for like three weeks. I would have a good day snd then bam the next day I had no energy. We had coughs for weeks especially in the evenings it would hit around 3 or 4. I just remembered we had headaches in and off as well.

Dh and I just had it for the first time. Dh had a sore throat and a pretty grumpy headache. He took Paxlovid. Symptoms lasted about a week. I got it about 8 days after dh. Mine feels like my normal seasonal allergies - a bit of a stuffy nose for 3 days. If it wasn't that it's not my allergy time and dh had just had Covid, I probably wouldn't have thought to test. I did not take Paxlovid. I am immunocompromised.

I’m on Day 3 right now, and am on Paxlovid. I can honestly say it hasn’t been bad today, but days 1 and 2 were hard. Fever, chills, headache. Metallic taste in my mouth. Tired as all get out. I mostly slept. I’m keeping hydrated, trying to get outside for a while every day. This is my first time having Covid.
I will get the vaccine if my doctor says I should. I don’t know if this gives me immunity for a while or what. This is all new territory to me. I do know I have to test on Monday to see if I’m still positive. I may not be able to get back into the office if I’m still positive. I would happily work from home!

I had it late July. For me it was WAY more mild than when I had it Christmas 2021.
I started with what felt like swallowing shards of glass (Tuesday around 7 pm)- figured it was post nasal drip. Got up Wednesday morning and it felt like a sinus infection with sinus pressure, sore teeth and ears but nothing bad. I was running at 99.9 fever and assumed sinus infection so I still took my DD to get her ear pierced (I shared it with her- sigh). Came home and by 2 that day I was running 102.9. I thought it MIGHT be Covid but didn't test. I was really tired and didn't feel great but wasn't as out of it as I was the first round. Thursday I was running 101 but feeling a LOT better. Friday I was down to 100 but then I lost my sense of taste (never lost smell). My friend got me the hook up for tests (expired) and I took one when I got home and not even 3 sec in it showed positive. DH tested and he wasn't showing any symptoms but he was positive (he started showing symptoms a few days later). I finally got my taste back Monday and my fever was gone Wednesday and I tested negative Wednesday. I only tested Friday and Wednesday after so I don't know if I was negative before that. Dh was sick but not bad either- and he's immune compromised. Since he's a cancer patient Paxlovid wasn't an option for him and he wouldn't have taken it anyway since he hates taking meds. I was done with it by the time I tested negative.
Christmas 2021 took me out of life for 3 days with a 103 fever the whole time! Then I was coughing for MONTHS.
I had the OG vaccine and the 1st booster and that's it. The boosters make me sick for 3-5 days each time. No thanks.

I'm on day 7 (maybe 8) right now and still testing positive.
Second time having covid - first time was extremely mild.
This time (didn't test until day 3) - Three days of 101 plus temperature, 103 temp one day, metallic taste in mouth that Isn't going away, no appetite, extreme body aches - just starting now to get some strength back.
It hasn't been fun. I don't wish this upon anyone.
I've haven't had the recent vaccines because I have extreme reactions .

I had it 3 weeks ago, and it was mild. Low grade fever (1 degree above normal) for 3 days. Congestion in my sinuses, and mild headache for 3–4 days. Loss of appetite. No lingering symptoms. And DH did not get it. Have had all the vaccines, and am 86 years old. No idea when I was exposed.

I believe I had it in July and it wasn’t as bad as during the pandemic for our family. It spread quickly between all of us within a week. Some had sore throats and fevers but most sneezing, cough and body aches with fatigue lasting close to a 1.5 weeks. We stayed put and didn’t go out. We believe we got it from a friend who was traveling and saw us right after. At first we weren’t sure it was Covid but as more people got it, we figured it was. We have no tests but will order more when we can.

How long has this new variant been around? I had covid back in Feb/March for the very first time. Not sure if that was this new variant though. I wasn't horribly sick but definitely much more than an ordinary cold (which is what I first thought it was, until it got worse). Chills, body aches, coughing... I was sick for four or five days, then the cough lingered forever.

I have it right now. It's mild, with the same symptoms as my first time 2 years ago. Cough, runny nose, every muscle aches, and no energy. I started Paxlovid on day 2. Today is day 3 and I do feel better.

DH and I have had it twice - Oct 2022 and July 2024
Both times were definitely worse than the flu for both of us.
This past time, it hit me slightly less than it did DH - I'm fully boostered, he's vaxxed but not boostered. I never had a fever, he did for about a week - we both had chills though. Sore throat started out mild but progressed to shards of glass. Exhaustion was real - I'm still not 100% back energywise. I lost taste - DH didn't (both times) and I still have some residual loss. Body aches - I hurt from head to toe and so did DH. Cough - his was much worse than mine which is unusual for us. Sneezing/congestion - yes and that lasted a while also. I had shortness of breath - just sitting still - that got worse if I walked or anything. It's better now - but not completely
We didn't take Paxlovid either time
btw mild covid mostly means you don't need to be hospitalised so by that - it is getting milder as less people are getting THAT sick. But it's still no fun at all.
Get the booster!

DH and I tested positive back in July. For both of us, it was milder than having the flu or strep. We had symptoms for maybe 2 days. A headache for a day and a low grade fever (99). We probably would not have known we were positive except DH's work has a rule that you be covid tested if you have any fever longer than 24 hours or if fever is combined with a headache. So he tested and when he was positive, I tested.

DH and I brought Covid back from our trip to New Orleans two weeks ago. DH tested positive two days before I did. I would say it was relatively mild for both of us—we didn’t even consider talking Paxlovid. The worst of it was about 2 and a half days—fever, cough, body ache and for me the headache—OY!—that was something else. We both had lingering fatigue that for me lifted yesterday—the first day I felt back to normal.

Just had it for the first time. Had coffee (outside!) with a friend who came down with it that evening. I was fine - until I wasn't. Hit all of a sudden, sore throat, sniffles, positive test. Two hours after the test I had all over aches and felt like the flu. Never had a fever but felt like I did for about 4 days. I was constantly sneezing, just achy, super tired. Took 10 days to test negative, I'm a week out now and still only feel like 90% back to normal. I've had probably 5 vaccines at this point - and will get the new one in 3 months to boost immunity again. I did not take Paxlovid, my friend did and honestly, it made her test negative sooner but she didn't feel 100% till about the same time I did.

I had it over Thanksgiving, which I wouldn't call "lately" at this point, but it was really lousy. So much so that I was actually in the ER when I found out that was what was wrong with me. I did not have a fever or body aches, no loss of smell, etc., so I didn't even think to test for it.
I had a killer sore throat, coughing, tightness in my chest, and the reason for my ER visit---what I thought was an asthma attack that I couldn't bring under control with my medication or inhalers. I also felt incredibly warm, like I was having a day long hot flash. I wore short sleeves with no jacket, and made DH drive with the windows down in November in Pennsylvania going tot he hospital.
I did take the Paxlovid, but because this was the only time I ever had COVID, I have no idea if it made it any better for me or not. It did not make anything worse, though, despite a warning from the doctor that it might at first. So if offered it again (Gosh, I hope I never have to be!) I would try it again.
For me the sore throat and tightness in my chest/wheezing were so exhausting, and yet I couldn't lie down to sleep. I also had pain in my hands and difficulty using them for any period of time, which was frustrating. But what was worst was the lack of energy lasted for a good 3 weeks. I just woke up needing an immediate nap every day. And I kept thinking "It's been a week, I should feel better soon." and then "It's a week and a half, for sure I'll feel better soon." Ugh.

I had it for the second time in June. No Paxlovid this time because I'm no longer immunosuppressed as I was when I had it Christmas '22.
It started with what I thought was hay fever all day, then I started feeling rough late afternoon. I picked up a takeaway so that I didn't have to cook, then by the time I got it home I couldn't eat it. I tested positive immediately and it stayed positive for 7 days. Fever went up to 102 for a couple of days and stayed above 99.5 for 9 more days. I had aches, headache for 4 days and didn't eat during that time, just slept and drank. After a few days I developed a sore throat with inflamed tonsils which stayed like that for a month. I remained exhausted until fairly recently.
It's difficult to say whether it was worse than last time or not. I think it was worse. But last time I had Paxlovid so it's not really comparable.
I will be getting the booster in October.
I hope you feel better really soon.

My first bout of Covid was April 2022. I fell down stairs and broke the hell out of my ankle 3 days into it so I was forced to rest.
Second bout, June 2024. It was definitely more like a mild cold. The only reason I tested was my sleep schedule. I don’t sleep well normally, with Covid I’ll sleep for 12-14 hours at a time. Was back to my normal exercise routine within 3 days ( I walk/run 3-5 miles daily and lift weight 3 days a week)
Third bout, I’m still getting over. DH went on a work trip and brought home Covid. This third one? Holy hell it’s been awful. I was down for 5 days straight. My throat felt like shards of glass were embedded in it, the cough rattled my bones, my body ached with a fairly high fever. It’s been 2 weeks, I’ve managed 2 days in a row of a slow, casual walk of 1.5 miles and that was pushing it. I get winded if I go too fast, terribly frustrating for me.
The first and third bouts have caused hair loss. It felt like my hair was finally recovering from the massive hair loss I had in 2022 (I always lose hair after general anesthesia, so between surgery for the broken ankle and Covid, I was seriously concerned I was going bald). Now it’s coming out again. I know it’s vanity speaking but sudden hair loss is terribly traumatizing

I work in a school and have had it three times, most recently in February. I’ve felt like I was going to die every time. I get way sicker than anyone else in my family. I took Paxlovid this last time and it helped a lot. Waiting on the new booster. I’m sure I will get it again this school year, teachers at my school already are out with it.

I had it for the first time in May. Started with a mild scratchy throat, the next day boom, runny nose and what felt like a severe sinus infection, chills and fever. Test positive that day. Felt bad for two days. Then it was all over. I did develop a slight cough that lasted about a week. I hadn’t gotten the latest booster, it was the only one I was eligible for I missed. I am absolutely getting this one asap.

I have it now. My last booster was last fall. I regret not getting the last one. Both my DH and I have it. My fever lasted 6 days. I had bad sore throat, have a cough, had chills, sweats, stomach issues several nights for several hours, fatigue etc. I will be happy once my cough goes away. My energy is beginning to pick up but am still eating lightly. I'm on day 8.

Today is day 5 for me. I am still testing positive, but feeling better. I still have a drippy nose and exhaustion, but the cough is mostly gone. I feel feverish occasionally, but have never actually had a fever. I go from chills to feeling clammy.
I am being extremely careful, as my parents are in a care facility. I usually go there 4x/week.
When I am able, I will definitely get the latest vaccine.
