As I've been trying to prep for Sketchy September I noticed that I don't take as many horizontal photos as I used to...
When I use my DSLR I take both (which is a problem in and of itself when making a page) but I almost exclusively take vertical photos with my phone.
I need to get into a habit of rotating my phone... I think clicking the button to take the picture is harder to do horizontally.
What about you?

It depends on what the subject of my photo is. For people, I am more likely to do vertical, unless I want more of the background, or if it is a large group. For scenery, I am more likely to do horizontal.
In general, I am taking fewer photos than I used to take, but I still think about the photo composition if I have time. Sometimes, you just have to get the photo as fast as you can and not worry about how it’s framed.

I still do a mix and sometimes I'll edit a portrait photo into a landscape if want a variety and don't have it and the photos work that way.

I definitely think the phone default has changed the way I take photos, more vertical as the default, although I do switch to landscape orientation some of the time. I make square photo books so I tend to think of a lot of my photos in square crop. When I used to share on IG more often the landscape orientation was the least satisfying because it would be extra small on the phone and wouldn’t work with stories.

I've discovered the same thing. The phone has caused me take almost solely vertical pics. Now that I've gotten back to making layouts again, I'm really trying to force myself to take each picture in vertical and horizontal. That way I've got what I need for whatever layout I choose for that particular picture. I also agree with Linda that I will try to crop a vertical to horizontal, but it doesn't always work well.

I take both vertical and horizontal photos pretty much equally with my phone. And as linda mentioned, I will also crop a vertical photo into a horizontal if needed.

How I take a photo and how I print it are often different. With both my dslr and my phone, I find it easier to hold. For a landscape shot. But when I print photos I crop them depending what I want to highlight in them.

Personally I love a good vertical photo but mainly taken horizontal because of my phone.

I really mix it up. I really like the landscape orientation to show location, and when we are a group of 5...horizontal fits us better.
But I've been actively trying to take more vertical/portrait because of POCKET PAGES! Especially with 3x4, it's harder to find pocket pages that take landscape. This influences my decisions more than anything else.

Depending what the shot is, I do both. I prefer landscape though. I need to get into a habit of rotating my phone... I think clicking the button to take the picture is harder to do horizontally. It is actually easy on an iPhone. You press the volume up button to take the picture, so it is almost like holding a regular camera.

I like vertical photos, and even with an actual camera, I turn the camera to take vertical pics. The hardest thing for me when I first got a digital camera was to remember I couldn't take vertical movies! I have so many videos of our oldest that you have to turn your head sideways to watch.

I do take both, but usually more vertical. DH takes more horizontal (especially if taking our selfie) because the phone is easier to hold that way. I scrap vertical a lot more. When I do scrap horizontal pics, it’s usually stack them, ultimately along them seem vertical…ish. LOL

I pretty much only use my phone to take photos these days, and the vast majority of the photos I take are landscape. And I always take videos landscape, never portrait.

Since I use my phone to take most of my photos, most are vertical. I am trying to remember to take horizontal photos or crop my vertical photos down to horizontal photos for more variety on my layouts!
