Started watching this HBO documentary last week and I am hooked!!! I did not know how many people there are buying their own monkeys and other exotic wild animals but this woman is making a fortune. I felt so bad for the chimps in the first episode, they did not have adequate housing IMO and no stimulation so was glad that PETA got them removed to a sanctuary. However at the end of the first episode one of the chimps was missing and last night's episode was about that and boy what an ending!!!! Cannot wait to see what happens next week.

Yes! I have watched both episodes. No one should own an ape, it's just wrong. They have no business being raised alongside humans like that. They hit puberty and they're impossible to handle, like human teenagers only with less intelligence/ability to control themselves combined with superhuman strength. Her joking about him masturbating, I just about fainted. Gross. If I wore pearls they would have been crushed I clutched them so hard.
I wouldn't own a monkey either.
When I saw that she also sells BABOONS I just about died. Who would want a baboon past infancy? Those teeth...that's just asking to be mauled. My God, I'd rather have a tiger.
Exotic animal collectors and traders are not well in the head.

I’ve only seen the first one but I’ll catch up tomorrow. I feel so bad for the chimps - giving them Happy Meals from McD just felt so wrong.
I’m only 30-40 min north of that place. I’m tempted to take a day trip down there.

I quoted you but I’m responding here. I have a 5 lb black cat that was the runt of her litter (4 Siamese kittens and a Siamese mom). She terrifies me sometimes and I don’t mess with her, never mind a monkey or orangutan. 🤨

Well, I'm glad I read this thread because now I know I will not be watching it. I can't stand to see animals mistreated and even though I love chimps, I would never ever own an exotic animal.
Thanks for the heads up!

I love monkeys and apes. In the wild. I would never watch this show or any show about keeping wild/exotic animals. IMHO, it’s condoning the actions.

It's not condoning it at all, rather it's shining a light on a world most of us didn't even know existed. I think this and Tiger King have been really eye-opening. You can pay for a cute little baby tiger encounter, or a baby chimp birthday party, but did anyone stop to think what happens to those animals when they become adults? As the saying goes, when you know better, you do better. This show isn't benefiting the animal traders in any way, trust me. It's exposing them.
