I just saw the teeniest tiny speck of a teaser for the new season of All Creatures posted by someone on Facebook---looks like it was part of perhaps an ad for all of channel 5's upcoming shows?? (It's not a public page, though, so I can't link it, sorry!) It doesn't air until January on PBS, here in the US, but I always get excited when I know it's getting close to time for the new season to air for all of you in the UK, anyway.

Yes it is so much longer a wait for those of us in the USA. I absolutely love that show and all characters connected to it. For me it is a shining light in a scrapheap of rubbish. And I'm just going to say it--I hope Siegfried and Mrs. Hall end up together

And I'm just going to say it--I hope Siegfried and Mrs. Hall end up together I love the show so much, and it's all down to the characters, because while I certainly like animals, I'm not one who normally looks to watch animal related TV shows. And I'd be perfectly happy to see Mrs. Hall & Siegfried together, as well.

I haven't seen the latest version of it. I watched the original version back in the '80s and the first film, but because I know the books back to front, I spent half the time irritating my family by saying "that's not what happens!"
I can give you the spoiler answer to your question from the books and bios, but goodness knows what the newest series will do.

I can give you the spoiler answer to your question from the books and bios, but goodness knows what the newest series will do. The new series has altered the characters' ages & timeline so this one is a bit of a whole new ballgame. The character of Mrs. Hall is the same age or even perhaps slightly younger than Siegfried. And she is a major character with just as much screen time as James, Tristan, Siegfried, & Helen. She has a whole complex back story in this series as well. They've basically treated her as a blank slate, which she basically was. There never even was a "Mrs. Hall" in reality, so she's an easier character for the writers to manipulate, I imagine. In some ways, this series plays things closer to reality--Siegfried, just like his real life counterpart, had a wife named Evelyn who passed away, for instance--but in making that true to life, they made it different from the books, as that's something Alf Wight fictionalized. And they fiddle around with the animal/farmer stories, sometimes giving one story to a recurring character that already exists in the show as opposed to introducing yet another farmer. One big difference was that in the books, MRS. Hammond brings her dog Rock in after he gets his paw stuck in a trap, but in this series it was a MR. Hammond instead, which turned into a very important distinction. But other times I do still recognize dialogue as coming straight out of the books. But the spoiler that you're referring to was dabbled with already, and did not end up as it did in the earlier materials.

I appreciate how they've subtly blended the books and things he left out and added entirely fictionalized new twists. Even with as irascible as they've made Siegfried though, his character is still a lot more stable than the reality!

So I know I could google but I so much more enjoy the peas responses. 😄 . I read all of James Herriot’s books back in the day, and incidentally have them in the current ‘give to a resource pile’. I also remember a show? It was episodes or kind of a mini series on PBS back in the day. Is this that 😂. Or is this a new show from his books?
ETA - sorry I just saw mellanell’s response from a few hours ago. I responded before I read that. Please disregard this post!

I've seen many comments about how it's not like the books (which is both true and not), or not like the original, but I like that the show is its own thing.

The new series is airing now in the UK. Yay! Then in January it'll be on PBS, with a few tiny extra bits here and there, as the run time for PBS is longer than needed for Ch. 5. And I heard season one is on Netflix, now, but I don't know if it's Netflix just in the UK or in the US, too, because I'm on a Netflix break right now. I'll be turning it back on in October, along with a few other services I have on break as well. I just don't need as many TV choices in the summer months.
