Totally tongue-in-cheek about the miraculous nature of this, but my kid is entering 9th grade and this is the first school year I have ever managed to easily find them pants that fit on the first try! Man alive, usually the pants are 2" too short and still falling down if they dared to jump. So, yeah, I'm so glad to know they have a closet full of pants that will actually fit when the cooler weather rolls around. Now, how long they will fit is an entirely different story, but hey, I'll bask in my happy moment while it lasts. (These are the things no one tells you when you decide to have kids----that this is the kind of stuff that you will consider super great news and a major accomplishment. )

Yay! Celebrate the minor miracles! I never had issues with either of my kids' school uniforms luckily. They were both average build, not short or not tall, so everything fit well. I did give up buying the school jumper (sweater) part of the uniform after about Year 2 because 1) my kids never wore them, even in winter, and 2) the ones I did buy always got lost. And those things were damned expensive!

Yay!!! I think I'm almost finally past that awful stage of trying to find pants for a tall skinny boy! Nothing was ever available in stores, so I had to order online, wait for it to ship and then hope that they fit...and that they liked them. These days I tell DS19 to go look himself because I have no idea how pants fit him since he has put on a lot of muscle because of football.

And those things were damned expensive! That reminds me of the year my kid somehow lost his winter jacket. I found the snap-off hood in his room, but we never found the jacket anywhere, despite checking various lost and founds. I remember thinking "Why couldn't he have just lost the hood??"

That's a good point! It was a lot cheaper outfitting my daughter in her school uniform, because dresses last longer than pants. My daughter had the same two summer uniform dresses through all of high school, from Year 7 through to Year 12. I had to take the hem down a couple of times, but otherwise they still fit. My son pretty much had to get a new pair of shorts / long trousers every year.

Congratulations, enjoy the moment! I'm feeling very fortunate that my kid was pretty average in the height/weight department

I was always appreciative of my average sized kid, as he had several friends that must struggle to kit out.

9th grade? Dont buy those now they won’t fit by end of October. There’ll be a growth spurt. Especially since it was too easy right now, Murphy’s law says that they will be capri height by Halloween. I stopped buying my son pants for back to school in like 6th grade as they always wore shorts til at least mid October, yes it’s a pain in the ass to go back to the store at that point but so is digging out my receipt and hoping they let me exchange since it’s past 30 days btdt
Good luck, keep receipts. 🤞🏻

And so I figured I better get some stuff he can wear now if those temps continue. Of course, yesterday & today we're back to the high 80s.

It’s tricky with growing kids, for me boys especially. My DD didn’t have growth spurts like that and she often turned shorter pants into capris
Hope it works out.

I get this 100%. My DS was always the tall, skinny kid with no hips. I would search forever trying to find him pants. I finally found the ones at Kohls that have the elastic with buttons in the waist so you can adjust the fit there. That allowed me to buy them long enough for him but also get them to fit his waist so they wouldn't fall down. It was a life-changer, lol.
