We'll actually, I don't think we have a recent thread about the cost of things (other than the horrendous cost of shipping to other countries :/ ) but anyhow... I'm watching an older YouTube video because it's finally time to try out all those Distress Mica Stains that I HAD to have earlier this year. JMcG is using a sentiment stamp and die set that I'd actually get a lot of use from. SO.....I looked it up, it's $52.90 for both. YOU GUUUUYYYYSSSS (yes, I'm whining). I understand that they need to pay the designer, make a profit, and all that. Truly I do. That said, I'm just shaking my head at the price, thus why I posted. Off to watch the rest of the video... Feel FREE to add your gripe(s) about pricing. I'm here for you Oh and here it is in case you're wondering: honeybeestamps.com/products/thinking-of-you-big-time-6x8-stamp-set?_pos=1&_sid=6b34f916c&_ss=r

I'll be honest, I'm ok with the $25 stamp set. I don't mind paying for stamps I know will stamp a crisp clean image.
I have a HUGE problem with the $28 die set. This is why I get most of my dies from AE. I just will not pay retail for stand alone dies. I've even branched out and purchased dies for stamp sets I bought from the original company. In 98% of the cases, they fit.

That is expensive! That said, they jumped into my cart. I love them.

I love that set, but it's definitely pricey, and I'm being much more selective these days because I have a full-to-the-brim craft space. That said, I'll go ahead and share my whine. There is an exclusive SSS die I'd love to have. It's the Detail Bohemian Plate wafer die and it is $35.00. That is obscene for one plate die IMO.

MichyM, it is pricey, but if you do think that if you will get a ton of use out of it, you should get it. Ones like those I ask for as gifts-birthday, or a holiday gift. Sometimes I gift myself on my birthday too! lokismom, SSS exclusives are the death of me. Some of their stuff is so cute and you just can't find it anywhere else. I am nervous for my wallet during Stamptember, although last year I found their site so hard to navigate for Stamptember that I gave up and they did not get my $$.

I found it in my order history but the store is now closed so the link doesn't work. You should definitely look on AE, the only issue is that it's an older die so it's going to be harder to find now. If I come across it I'll send you a link.

It seems ridiculously expense until you break it down. You’re getting 13 stamps and 7 dies so 21 pieces divided into the total price is like $2.52 a piece. You can’t buy a single stamp or die for that. If I knew I would use every sentiment in the set multiple times then the set would be worth it to me.

I have that stamp set - it's really usable, I love it - so I'd love to see what JM did with it. But yes, the prices are getting really ridiculous and painful. There was a bundle at Stampin' Up! that I wanted a year or two ago that was about $75 CDN for the stamp and die - I had to pass on that.

I searched for distress mica stain on YouTube, and her video came up. It really wasn't helpful for me. I'm going to have to succumb to watching the entire 2 hour video from Tim Holtz on these things. I can't get the video to load in order to copy and share the url, but is named something like 2 cards in 10 minutes.

I agree, the price on the stamps is ok, but the dies are a bit expensive. I noticed they are pre-clipped, could that make them more expensive than wired dies?

But yes, I was looking at a stamp and die set the other day and the cost of matching dies is through the roof. Especially for sentiments. I got the ScanNCut so I wouldn't have to buy them ever again but I don't actually use it in daily crafting. I don't think I've ever tried to for cutting out a sentiment and wouldn't trust it to do a good job.
I don't know if this reflects the true cost of manufacturing in the US. I think it might. In a recent livestream Tim Holtz was talking about the logistics of getting matching dies made and touched on the lead times for onshore vs offshore production. He was talking about why sizzix stopped making dies for his stampers anon stamps and why SSS decided to take it on - the key difference was the Simon makes theirs in the USA so the turnaround time is much faster, easier to reorder, etc.

I have a scan n cut as well. Unfortunately it really doesn't cut detailed fonts/sentiments well for me. Am I missing some trick(s) for cutting the sentiments I linked in my OP amyl and scrapnnana? I'd love to know them, thanks so much!

I'd love to know them, thanks so much! Super detailed cuts such as some fonts and doilies, can have issues, no matter what machine. You have to have a sticky mat, so the paper doesn’t come up as the blade is cutting. The hard part is having a mat with good tack, but that isn’t so tacky that your intricut cut rips when you try to get it off the mat.

This is why I’m highly selective on what I buy. I want to support a company, but my funds are limited. I refuse to use AE or Temu because of the possible issues with stolen data, and the chance that they won’t send the correct items, as well as the problem with it being stolen designs. Their stamps won’t be the high quality photopolymer either. Amazon has a ton of knockoffs as well, which is surprising. I report them as I find them, as should everyone else. If not, all these companies we love will slowly go out of business.

And no, SU does NOT make their own dies. They make their own stamps. Most everything else comes from China. If Ali Express can sell these dies for decent prices, other companies can too.
Seriously.

The mats are an issue. As is taking the time to pencil in an outline of the sentiment and hope that the machine recognizes it.
But again, I really hate the mats. Either they tear my paper (and I swear I am bending the mat and being super careful when removing my paper) OR the paper shifts while cutting.
Right now it’s sitting in my office closet, collecting dust. Want it?!? 😆
