The mats are an issue. As is taking the time to pencil in an outline of the sentiment and hope that the machine recognizes it. But again, I really hate the mats. Either they tear my paper (and I swear I am bending the mat and being super careful when removing my paper) OR the paper shifts while cutting. Right now it’s sitting in my office closet, collecting dust. Want it?!? 😆 lol no, I have one, but haven't used it yet (story of my life!). I have a crafty friend that uses it all the time and hasn't ever complained about it, and she's the type that would... Is it the same mat that shifts while cutting and tears your paper? If you haven't already, I would try to take some of "stickiness" away so it's not so tacky by rubbing a towel or something fibrous on it. There's also low tack mats, not sure if you've tried that yet? Less sticky should help with tearing of paper. I would brayer the paper down so that you're sure it sticks, use low tack tape (or washi) on a couple edges to make sure it doesn't shift. ETA: I texted said friend if she's using Brother cutting mats or an off brand from Amazon, etc. I'll let you know what she says.

I think those sentiments would cut well with a scan-n-cut if you stamped them in black, but once you start stamping in lighter colors mine would have a problem cutting them.
I think it's a great set. All of my crafting supplies are in a storage unit (indoor and temperature controlled), until we buy our next house. I have been trying to avoid all temptation, so I don't end up with piles of unused things between now and when that happens.

Or did you at least pack an emergency card making kit to bring with you to your rental? Everything crossed that the perfect house comes on the market soon!

Either they tear my paper (and I swear I am bending the mat and being super careful when removing my paper) OR the paper shifts while cutting. Right now it’s sitting in my office closet, collecting dust. Want it?!? 😆 I have had issues with the mats too, not all the time but often enough that it gets discouraging to use it. I think the shifting can be caused by the blade not biting into the paper correctly. It could be in need of replacement or it could just need a pressure adjustment (if your model still has that - I’m using an older one). I had to play around with mine when I last used it (quite a while ago 🙈) to get the right depth and pressure to cut all the way through and not ruin things. The test cuts are important. Oh, and you should take apart the blade thing from time to time because little bits of paper fluff can build up in it and make it not work so well 🤷🏻♀️ I think last time I used my machine the blade was screwing itself back into the holder, changing the setting as it cut. I tend to use my mats to death so more issues with the paper not sticking than sticking too hard. There’s a little flex in the mat as it feeds in and I’ve had to hold it up to make sure the paper doesn’t pop right off the second the blade hits it. I’d heard not to use washi tape to hold things down but it seems that people do and nothing bad happens. I’ve only used it to cut a sentiment a couple of times. I usually end up leaving it on a strip or shape. Simon Hurley fussy cuts most of his with scissors but I really like the nice edge that dies give. (Which comes back to why I hardly use the SNC).
