Getting to spend an hour talking with a guy that means the world to me since we weren't able to get together today. We watched the ny fireworks together while on the phone. Really made my day complete.

Ending a huge family get together with my in-laws on a good note. Dh's family is loud, opinionated, boisterous and a few of them love to stir up drama. We went to a big cookout in the park that included 6 or 7 families and had various friends and extended family members drop in. MIL has been in rare form this week, so we were all a little concerned there might be a blow out. Everyone got along and had fun, no one argued, no one cried, no one said anything out of the way to anyone else's kid, even the kids all got along all day! We were there from 11:30 until after 4pm. It was completely unexpected and unprecedented. I think DH might not dread the next family function so much.

Witnessing the excitement of my son to take his cake he made to the family barbecue. He rocked it! When you cut into, it looks like the American flag. I made most of the layers with box cake but he stacked 7 layers and cut it/arranged the layers to form the flag. He then topped it with fondant and decorated. It was a huge hit!
On a lesser note, I made a new cookie recipe to take (Potato Chip cookies) and they were a hit as well.

My 4 year old nephew told me "Aunty, I can do puzzles with a lot of pieces". I say "Well this puzzle has seven pieces. How many pieces will you have on your next puzzle?" He says "Seven-a-lot pieces".

Spending time at a 4th of July Fest with a couple of my grandsons and my dil & son, followed by fireworks. It was my first time to really be out in public (besides work) since my surgery in May, and though it hurt my foot alot, it was very good for my soul. Those little guys (ages 3 and 18mos) are 2 of my favorite people in the world, and I haven't been able to see much of them for the last coupla months.

Evening cookout and cards. Perfect day!

Going to the grocery store today with my 18 year old. We caught up conversation wise. She is going non stop with friends and I feel like I never see or spend any time with her. She is growing up and I am not handling it the way I thought I would.

I wasn't feeling up to going to the fireworks so DH and DD were going to go on their own. At the last minute, they decided that it would be no fun without me and they were going to stay home. We rounded up some sparklers and snakes that we had left from a few years ago and had our own little celebration. DD is getting to an age were she is no longer enjoying some of those kid things, but she seemed to really enjoy our simple "fireworks". It was wonderful to see.

Had a wonderful evening grilling out, hanging out on the porch with all three kids, then watching the fireworks our neighbors set off. It was a perfect 4th of July.

Spending the day with family. Lots of stories and laughs. The town parade was a hoot. Every firetruck and old car from a 20 mile radius was on display along with HS bands and drum and bugle corps. It was a Norman Rockwell kind of day.

For me it was sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee looking at my beautiful landscaping that I worked my butt off putting in. It was so peaceful, and the marigolds are all blooming yellow and gold. It was just beautiful.

Two things! Watching the preparation for the Tour de France bike race on tv from Yorkshire, England I discovered that a MAMIL is a middle aged man in lycra! That amused me. Then the postman brought my two skinny bins which fit beautifully under my desk next to the shredder so I am finally organised and can deal with the paper mountain that tends to live on my desk.

I honestly don't know the highlight of my Fourth. The entire day was just perfect. The weather was gorgeous. My daughter had a great time playing with her cousin. The community picnic had tons of great food. Our family picnic in the evening was fun. And there were just enough fireworks left over from last year to make the evening bright. A bonus was the neighbors across the lake having the mortars so we even got a bit of a sky show. It was one of the best visits I've ever had with my family and my daughter.

Really yesterday was the best 4th of July we have spent in a long time because the weather was in the high 70s/low 80s and gorgeous. We started the day watching my DD walk in our local parade as part of a tea kwon do demo team. They did a we will rock you/Bruce Lee routine and she was so excited to be a part of the team. Last time she did it she was only 5 so she rode in the float instead of performing. After that my son went with his buddy during the day and we went to a cookout where we relaxed and ate great food and then my DH and my best friends DH organized a water ballon fight for the kids. We came home and rested and then went to a neighborhood beach and watched fireworks going on all around the river and we could also see the big Annapolis display. The kids played outside and we all just enjoyed the night.
basically the whole day was a highlight, lol.

Yesterday: spending a quiet day with just DH listening to him play guitar and relaxing in an empty (of kids) house. In the evening we took DGS to the fireworks. We even made it out of the parking lot in about five minutes which is a record for sure.
Today: DS1 is coming home from camp. Realistically I'll deal with a muddy mountain of laundry and probably the ER because he fell off a climbing wall and hurt his ankle. BUT...he'll be home and I missed him immensely. Then...DS2 is coming home on Sunday from his first ever, kinda far away from home by himself trip. He spent an entire week with my sister in another state and had too much fun to even talk to us when we called. By Sunday all my kids will be accounted for again and the house will be back to a dull roar. I can't wait!

Hi Yoki!
I apologize for not resonding sooner on the PLC thread. I went to do 4th of July stuff or I definitely would have responded. Enjoying the fireworks with my husband was the highlight of my day.
I love that your son has decided to take the plunge (pun intended).
I'm glad you started this thread. It's a great thread so far.

My family had a surprise birthday party for me on the 4th! I hate surprise parties but I had a great day with my family and my husband's family was invited also. The weather was perfect, we went to the parade, went to my sisters house for the party and went to the lakefront (lake Michigan) for the fireworks.
No work, great food & drinks, great family & friends, fun entertainment, wonderful presents~it was an awesome day all around!!
