I posted this question on the "Pea Lurker Club" thread, but I think it got lost in the shuffle, so I thought I'd start a new one. What was the highlight of your day today (or so far today)? Mine has been watching my son spending hours diving for stuff in the pool. He hasn't wanted to put his head under to swim until yesterday (he just decided he was ready & it was time), so I'm proud of him & glad for the easy way to entertain him.

Spending the day celebrating our country's birthday. DH and I went to a parade, then spent the afternoon in the park listening to the community band play and enjoying the nice day. It was beautiful--70s, sunny, and a breeze.

Having a chat with my hubby and kids while they are camping. On the other end of that, I was shopping ALONE. Hee hee

DSO and I had a disagreement 2 nights ago. I said to him "You are calm and keep me calm" and his response to me is "my reaction towards you will always be calm and gentle". Keep in mind English is not his first language. This melted my heart... Today was a good day

Watching my dad demonstrate the operation of an air compressor that he is giving me. His love language is gifts.

My best friend rescued a tiny puppy from the side of the road a couple of days ago - it needs to be bottle fed every couple of hours, so she brought it with her today. Our girl cat fell in love and has spent the whole day snuggling with the puppy, grooming it, and supervising the bottle feedings. They are piled up in her kitty basket sound asleep despite the noise of the fireworks. There may be a puppy adoption in our future.

I cleaned 2 of the bathrooms, cleaned the kitchen, all the hard floors, a small amount of vacuuming, washed a load of towels, changed sheets on 3 beds, straightened my hair, gave myself a pedicure, and made dinner with a built-in choice; fish or chicken! Whew! I wanted to do some scrapbooking, but you just can't do it all, you know. The highlight part was getting it done and seeing the results, not actually doing it. Still need to water my vegetable garden, but then I need to clock out because I need to save energy for work in the morning.

A phone call from my daughter! She is away dancing for 8 weeks. This is the second phone call in 2 weeks. Some days, I get a few texts or IMs, but nothing on other days, so this was nice.

Most of DH's family came over for lunch and swimming, and my 15 yo DD called from Germany to chat with everyone. It was a good day!

I spent 13 hours of my day at work caring for a great group of orthopedic patients. Despite broken bones and scheduled surgeries today, my patients were positive, comfortable, and a joy to be with while away from loved ones on this special day. The icing on the cake was coming home to my family and spending some time outside enjoying sparklers, pop-its, and the neighborhood fireworks despite the muggy weather (our city fireworks show was cancelled due to severe rainstorms).

For my run today, I put on my patriotic running skirt (stars and stripes), red, white and blue knee high compression socks, and a navy blue running t-shirt. I run 4 miles through my neighborhood, and I had more people cheering me on today than any time outside of a race. People cheering out of car windows or from their yards. It was a blast! I bought the skirt to wear in Marine Corps Marathon sponsored races, but I got my money's worth today alone.
That was the highlight, but it was followed closely by dinner with my family - grilled rib eyes, homemade macaroni and potato salads, and corn on the cob. YUM!

Watching numerous showings of Independence Day on Encore! :-)
I sprained my ankle almost two weeks ago and it's still a little swollen and sore, so I passed on festivities today to stay off of it.

I went shopping this morning for new clothes and bras. I was at Lane Bryant when they opened and two great gals were working. I got measured and found I was wearing the right size bra...and found 4 that I like! I also got 9 tops (some on great clearance), a skirt and a pair of shorts. After in store discounts, an on line coupon, and a text coupon I only spent $221!
A close rival for the highlight was my new kitty getting on my lap tonight!

Watching the chickens. I had a horrible gallbladder flare up last night and was in bed all day. I went outside to watch dh feed them just to get some air and he got me a chair to sit next to them for a bit. They crack me up.

My dad and db came over today and hung two long floating shelves above my couch. I found the Pottery Barn shelves, NIB, for $20 years ago at a thrift store. (just looked and PB still carries them - 4' espresso crown molding shelves) They were never used in my old home and came with me to my condo. It took almost three years to decide where I wanted them and have screws drilled into the walls, but they look great. I'm thankful they offered to help, because it became a four person job. Now to frame some photos and gather some favorite things to put on them.

DS17 came to the grocery store with me today. It doesn't sound like much, but he hates grocery shopping. I know he did it just to be nice since I've been in a bit of a funk because my exH (the deadbeat) got married yesterday in a huge extravaganza while I'm working my butt off to raise our kids. Sometimes teenagers can be completely self absorbed so DS's offer to come with me just made me grin.

My ex has yet to contribute a dime to dd's college, yet can vacation and buy plenty of toys for himself and his new family.

I have a garden that has been a work in progress for the past 10 years. About 8 years ago, I planted 4 beds of perrenial herbs with the intent of never having to buy the spices again. The plan was to grow, to harvest, to dry, and to cook the herbs in the garden, but i never did. For 8 years I've been saying i need to go pick some of the herbs to dry, but i never did.
Until this year.
This spring we fenced the garden, laid down a weed barrier and mulch, and filled the remaining beds. As soon as the plants put on the appropriate growth, i havested, cleaned, and dried enough of each to not only last me a lifetime, but to also share with family and friends.
Today I grilled out for my family, something we haven't done on the 4th in years. One of the dishes I made was grilled yellow zucchini basted with olive oil, Oregano, Rosemary, Balsamic Vinegar, salt and pepper. I grew and dried the Oregano and Rosemary, and I planted and grew the squash. I felt so happy, so accomplished, to have finally completed something I had wanted and planned to do for years.
It was a very good day.
