A few months ago, I had asked on the SB board for craft room paint color recs, and everyone said "white." I'm over here because I think we get more foot traffic. Does anyone have an interior white they love? My craft room is on our ground level and has windows and a door (our ground level is basically half basement-level) but doesn't get a huge amount of light because of a big fence four feet away. I think I'd had the suggestion of Chantilly Lace, but happy for any input (it has been eggplant and beige from the prior owners so I'm thrilled to be getting rid of that).

Does your home skew toward blue, reds, yellows, …? One thing that I found really helpful on Sherwin Williams site was to go I to the data of the paint. It will tell you the value of the ratios between red/blue/cyan, the undertones, and also the light reflective value.
We moved to our new house a year ago and it was painted in 5 shades of brown, each darker than the other. In January, I couldn’t stand it any longer and painted it all primer white. The change was dramatic. I knew I didn’t want to go back to a dark shade and made sure that I chose a color with a high light reflective value. (Softened green)

When we remodeled our house to sell it, we had it painted Benjamin Moore Dove White ... it was very pretty!

A few that I like are
Alabaster SW
Greek Villa SW
White Tail SW
Swiss Coffee BM
You really need to look at them in your space. It's amazing how different they look in different rooms and lighting.

I like Sherwin Williams Alabaster. This is my vote, too. It’s white, but not “bright” white- if held up to pure white SW (which we have as trim in other rooms) Alabaster looks slightly creamy (but you wouldn’t mistake it for cream if that makes sense).

I like Sherwin Williams Alabaster. Agreed! We painted our interior and all built in cabinetry In 2013 with Alabaster and it has been great. Still love it. Not a stark white and easy to live with long term.

My go to has always been Benjamin Moore Atrium White. I would paint every room with it if I could.

We are starting to repaint our interior and chose SW Pure White for our walls and trim, but different sheens. I chose based on Young House Loves use in their current home.
They have a great chart to show all the whites.

My craft room is painted a white shade "Happy Thoughts" It's a lovely creamy white
Our spare bedroom was just painted "Sparkling Personality". This has undertones of yellow/green.
Not a fan of stark white but antique/creamy whites are nice.

Another vote for Alabaster. All of our trim + built in cabinets are this color and I just love it. I even used it in my scrapbook room because it's just a nice, clean white but does not feel like a hospital.

Question(s), Is white your favorite color? What is your favorite color? What color makes you happy? Are you a craft putist who worries about wall color interfering with your project? All of this to say, if you are looking at white because that is what other crafters have/suggest, maybe just do what makes you happy. After all, it is Just. Paint. It can be changed. I am in the process of finishing my new sewing/quilting/craft room. I painted the walls a beautiful shade of lavender, my favorite color. I wanted the room to make me happy, so I decided to use a color palette that reminds me of my flowers and my garden. I painted an old dresser a pale yellow and another one white with shades of purple on the drawers. I have a pine pie safe with punched tin insets in the doors that I am going to repaint the door frames and another small dresser that needs a new coat/color. I have white Billy bookcases and a Kallax to store/display fabric ribbons, quilt tops, and other craft supplies, so there is lots of color throughout. And that makes me happy. So this was my long-winded way to say, it is your space to paint and decorate in whatever way that makes you happy. There are no craft police. Oh. And here's a pic of my dresser that I finished last week. I am v proud of it, and it makes me smile whenever I look at it.

I had an apple green studio 15 years ago and I loved it. I was a little worried that the color would cast a hue on my work, but I never noticed an issue. I liked the color so much that I just painted my living room, hall, entry, and stairs SW Softened green, which is an apple green. I’ve seen several houses with the color, accented with blues and lavender. It’s fresh and classic and I’m hoping that it will be cheerful when the dark days of winter come.

I just painted my entire open area (entry, living room, kitchen, dining, hallway) SW Nuance. I had tried previously to get just the right “greige” color and I hated what we had done. I am absolutely in love with how bright and airy it all looks now! And I can use color anywhere to accent.

All of this to say, if you are looking at white because that is what other crafters have/suggest, maybe just do what makes you happy. After all, it is Just. Paint. It can be changed. White isn’t my favorite color, pink is. But what I learned from my last house is that anything with a wide swath of color in a room can cause a color cast. I had white walls in my studio but chose a really pretty rose pink carpet and it DID cast off that color and reflect onto the walls and predominantly white furniture. Every photo I took in that room had to eventually be color corrected in post process and it was an added step. I don’t have that issue in my current studio which has BM Atrium White walls and the light beige carpet that came with the house. It may not be an issue for anyone who doesn’t need to photograph their work, but for someone who does it’s definitely something to take into consideration. With so many people on design teams for various companies, it doesn’t surprise me that a lot of crafters recommend white for studio/craft room walls. For us, we will only use quality paint which now runs $50-60+ a gallon. Multiply that out to paint a couple coats (plus primer) in a large room and it can easily run into the hundreds of dollars. If I end up hating a color, I’m going to be stuck with it for at least a decade because with my DH there’s no do over just because I changed my mind.
