So, I’m back at work (after Covid) with 21 non-English speaking four year olds. It is truly like wrangling feral cats! I’m exhausted. I have a full-time aide, but I gave her Covid. So I’m on my own. Anyway, today it was a little chaotic and I was trying to get them to centers…and there was whining and crying and confusion and chaos. One SWEET little girl came to me crying and trying to tell me something in Spanish. She had her water bottle, her shirt was wet and there was water on the floor. I thought she had spilled her water bottle and was reassuring her it was OK. I turn my attention to the other kids, but she is still crying pointing to her shirt. I thought she was just upset that it was wet, but she started holding her stomach. I asked if her belly hurt and she nodded, so I told her I would send her to the nurse as soon as I got the other kids settled. Suddenly, she ran out of the room toward the bathroom. I ran after her and slipped on something wet in the hall, landing on my butt and back. As I’m laying there, laughing, I look around and realize I’m in a puddle of….. VOMIT. It’s on my shirt, my butt and in my hair. And the water in the room and on her shirt was actually vomit. Thankfully, I couldn’t smell it (thanks, Covid). But it was still GROSS. So how was your day?

I remember my sis and I being at the elementary school when a student came running with her hand over her mouth. The nurse and teacher asked “oh honey are you okay”? My sister and I said let’s get out of here and ran for the door! Your experience was horrible for you both! 🤢
As far as my day, I have AML leukemia and I’m just about ready to check out and go be with Jesus and my Mom, Dad and siblings. 😢

Yikes!!! I’m sorry you had such a hard day. Kids and vomit always freak me out. I had a day like that once when I worked in daycare. I had nine 18 mo-2 yr olds. I had them out on the playground with the class right below mine. A sweet girl came to me with something in her super curly hair. I couldn’t figure it out. At first, I thought she had pooped, then gone down the slide. Then, a boy came to me with something on the back of his shirt. Come to find out, HE had diarrhea when he went down the slide, and she went down right after him. At that point, *I* was trying not to puke. The teacher of the younger class took all of the babies inside, and I took the other two to the kitchen where they had a huge utility sink. I stuck both of them in there, one at a time, stripped them down, and hosed them off. It was absolutely disgusting. It wasn’t much longer after that that I quite. 12 years working with kids under 3 yrs old had finally done me in. LOL Let’s just say that I hope your year gets much, much better!!!

That was not a good day. You deserve a restful long weekend. Maybe a cocktail if you imbibe.

I’m so sorry callmenutz. My BFF’s DD had AML when she was six years old. Thanks to a bone marrow transplant she has been in remission for over 20 years now. 🤞 Sending healing thoughts your way.

Oh goodness! That is a story you'll tell forever. I had a preK student come in for a hug and puke all down my back and arm one time. Good times, good times.
These little friends are Spanish-speaking, I assume? I hope your aide speaks Spanish. I'm sure you've picked up some classroom Spanish along the way, but I know the feeling of using your few words with them and having them assume you're fluent, and they unleash a whole long story you can't understand!
I hope you have a great year after this inauspicious start!

In my 30 years of teaching I've been vomitted on twice. I also had a kid bring in a paper they were working on at home. It was covered in vomit and sealed in a plastic bag. She wanted to prove she was indeed working on the project.
