Some news sources are reporting that Venezuelan gangs have taken over the city of Aurora, Colorado.
Others say the whole thing is exaggerated and is confined to a problematic apartment complex soon to be condemned.
Can any locals verify the continued existence of Aurora and the safety of its people? Thx.

I was wondering if what I had been reading was true also.

I've been in that area in July.
I'm sure it is bad in certain areas and not as bad in others. There are higher crime areas and lower crime.
I have a friend who has a friend who is a police officer in the area and apparently they are taking it seriously

You just never know what is true these days. I saw an interview with police. can't remember if it was the police chief or a spokesman for the police department. According to the interview I saw, it seems isolated to one area and they are taking it seriously.

I don't think so, my son's longtime best friend and his wife moved there from Denver recently. My daughter is in Fort Collins so 2 hrs away but she thinks it's mostly people freaking out over the clips being shared (Honestly, I ignored the clips because I've only seen them shared on FB by Trump supporters, but I know that doesn't make it not true)
Anyway, I'll update if I hear back from other son, he might be working and it could be a while

Per my son, it's one apartment building.

Thanks for the real-world updates. After hearing various people claim that both Minneapolis and Portland were burned to the ground in 2020 and never rebuilt, one can't be too careful in validating news sources.

I was just there prior to the apartment clips and didn't find it any different than any other time I've been there. But I'm not walking the streets and night and I'm with other family. We have a couple of acquaintances that live there and just texted with one a couple of weeks aga and she never said anthing. I think it is blown out of proportion.

I get so mad when I hear Minneapolis burned to the ground. DH grew up near the area that did burn. I lived and worked nearby, too. It was horrible, of course. But it was a relatively small area. Also, many of those filmed and arrested for arson were NOT from the area.

I think it is blown out of proportion. Imagine that---media and social media blowing things out of proportion. Seriously, though, a big thank you to all of the Peas who, when living nearby to different locations in the news, are always willing to give us close-to-the-source opinions on what is actually taking place in any of these situations.

Some news sources seem to think that Seattle burned to the ground in 2020 and that also you can’t walk around the city without getting mugged, so I always assume these kinds of things are exaggerated .

From what I have seen, the apartments are run by an out-of-state slum lord. People are upset about the awful conditions they are living under. Nithing I have seen indicates the presence of Venezuelan gangs taking over
