It finally happening, our 11+ years old fridge is dying. We've fixed it once already but it's time to start looking for a replacement. We are going with a white french door style. I've narrowed it down to 2, an LG or a Whirlpool. The thing is both models are so similar in dimensions, features and price that it's going to come down to brand reliability. Which would you guys recommend, LG or Whirlpool?

I may be the lone dissenter here but I'd stay away from LG. But my opinion is colored because I had one that was basically a lemon. But I know lots of people with LG that have no issues and love them. We went to built-in SubZero last year and are very happy now.

I love my LG. Its probably 8 years old with no problems. It replaced a Whirlpool that was 17 years old and only gotten rid of when we went to stainless appliances.

We love our Whirlpool. We have had it awhile. French doors with a freezer on the bottom. Ice maker in the bottom. I opted for no water or ice in the door. I feel like that just gives more features to break down. It is hard to find a refrigerator without ice and water in the doors now.

LG is top rated by consumer reports. We have an LG bottom freezer and we love it.

I just got a new one last week! I went with GE because that is what they had and it fit what I wanted. It's big. Its French door with a bottom drawer freezer. Ice maker, but no dispenser in the door. Water dispenser inside the refrigerator door. And the biggest selling factor for me is - it's white and they had it in stock. LOL
I replaced a Kenmore side/by/side that was still working, but about 13 years old. It is the same cubic foot, but I can fit SO MUCH more in this fridge! I just love it! Love the design and the more efficient storage. Old fridge went to the shop.

We're getting a new fridge, too. Our Samsung has been bad since we got it and finally it's time to make it go away. We actually want to downsize, because we don't need a big fridge and it says, "HELLO" when you walk into the kitchen. I don't want either the LG or Samsung. I would love a Sub Zero, but the size is not going to work. We had decided on a GE, but then read reviews that it's loud.
To those of you w/GE's are they loud? Do you like your fridge?

I have a GE profile and I love it. My bff works for Home Depot and that’s the one she recommended based on customer satisfaction and dealing with the manufacturers call center. I don’t find it to be loud at all.

We had an LG that we absolutely loved! Unfortunately, it died after 3 years. We had no problems with it before that. Then one day I noticed the fridge wasn't cold inside, even though the fridge was running. The condenser was busted. I was told that was very unusual to have an LG die that quickly, so we have another LG. We have had it a year and so far so good. Our previous fridge was from Fridgedaire. That thing lasted 15 years, but I was told any new fridge just isn't going to last that long anymore.

Also check your credit card. I believe our card doubles the warranty up to an extra year if purchased on the card

Last fall we bought an LG, and it's been fantastic. My one complaint is the tubing may be affecting the taste of the water. We have the ice and water on the outside and two types of ice down below. I love the ice options. Hopefully it lasts without problems.

I bought a Black Whirlpool French door freezer on the bottom with ice and water in the door. I got it about 6 months ago after my LG bit the dust after 5 years I wasnt terribly impressed with anything on the market but I had a very tight budget so I went to the scratch and dent store. There is absolutely no dents or scratches anywhere I did find out last week that the filter is terribly expensive to replace and is not stocked on Amazon at all but Home Depot fixed me up. Overall I'm very happy with it and best of all I have a seperate control for the drawer I keep my insulin in. [/fo

We had decided on a GE, but then read reviews that it's loud. To those of you w/GE's are they loud? Do you like your fridge? Just got mine this past week. Not loud at all. I can hear the ice maker filling with water - but I desperately need to replace a filter down in my basement that leads to the fridge. Filter should be hear next week, and I am sure that is the issue. There is barely any water coming in the line right now. Ohhh..I have some icky water! Hence, the filter.

Try checking on reviews for the filters if there is a weird taste in the water.

The fridge Mom chose has been a problem from the start. I can’t remember the brand. Samsung maybe. It was expensive! Hoping to get Dad to buy a new fridge this month. A little worried about suggesting it, since it was one of the last purchases Mom had made.
Our Frigidaire is 29 years old and still going strong. In the past 8 years, it sometimes makes ice and sometime will stop for a number of months only to start making ice again. 🤷🏻♀️ I dread having to replace our fridge. The free standing oven is the same age.

I absolutely LOVE our Whirlpool French door, bottom freezer drawer fridge that we have at the lake cabin. Ice, crushed ice and water through the door. TONS of space inside and adjustable shelves mean there’s room in there for big stuff like a tall cake or a big stock pot or an extra large Costco pizza. We had an issue at home last week where we got home from a long weekend at the lake cabin to discover that DH hadn’t completely closed the refrigerator door on our SubZero, so virtually everything inside had to be tossed because the inside temp had been 58° all weekend. Thankfully it cooled back down normally after we vacuumed the coils and reset it, but we noticed in the manual that the previous owners of our house had left for us had written that it had been installed in 1999. So yeah, that fridge is TWENTY FIVE YEARS OLD. 😬 We need to start planning for when it eventually dies because when it does, it’s going to be damn expensive to replace it. The biggest problem with a SubZero is that about the only thing you can replace it with is another SubZero because of how they’re built into the cabinetry, and for the uninitiated they cost around $10K minimum. To put anything else in the hole it lives in in the cabinetry would not fit and would be very weird. While it gets an A+ for longevity it gets a D+ from me for interior refrigerator space and storage flexibility and an F on price.

I can't recommend a brand because I couldn't even tell you what brand ours is, hahaha, but I will say I love the features ours has. We have door ice and water, and larger ice in a tray in the bottom drawer. I also chastised DH for spending the extra couple hundred dollars to get the condiment door on the outside, but I ended up loving it and would refuse another fridge without one. We use it constantly.

We got a GE french door with freezer on the bottom and an ice/water dispenser in one of the upper doors. It was installed last week and we are happy with it. Since our kitchen appliances were 17 years old AND the the dishwasher and the microwave were not working, we decided to replace them all. The microwave and stove are also GE, and I wanted a quiet dishwasher so we went with a new Bosch. Color-wise they all match with stainless.
