Do you have a new truck or SUV that you love? If so, please tell me about it.
Our vehicles are 11 and 12 years old - a F150 truck, and a Ford Taurus. I still love my Taurus, and it works really well for carting around our two senior Golden Retrievers. The dogs are a priority… We want something that is nice for them to ride in, and also some thing with a lot of headroom because DH and I are both very tall (he is 6’5”).
We are not sure if we should upgrade the pick up truck, or get an SUV to replace the Taurus.
Front-runners for SUV’s are the Honda Pilot and the Hyundai Palisade - but we have yet to sit in them and see if they are roomy enough. We were eyeing the Chevy Traverse but I am hearing there are issues with the transmission blowing in those.
So - sell me on your vehicle! 😊

One of my BFF’s had a couple Pilots back to back and LOVED them. We would usually take her vehicle when we would go on road trips because we could easily haul a lot of stuff plus 3-4 people. I’m going to push for one when I upgrade my current Ford Escape. I’ve had good luck with my two Escapes but the Pilot is definitely a nicer, roomier vehicle to ride in. The current plan is to hang onto my 2017 Escape until my kid turns 16 in two years and needs a vehicle, then I’ll be in the market for something else.

My parents have a Palisade and it is super comfortable to get around in. The second row is in a captains chair configuration so very convenient to carry around both their big dogs.

I’ve had Mazada’s that have loved but am now on my 2nd Subaru Forester (2021) which I think I have decided to trade in for a 2025. They have redesigned them some and I will probably go a package up to get some of the extra options I want…but I certainly don’t have to trade so will se what I can get for a deal. However, if I did not go with another Subaru, it would probably be a Mazda CX5. Although I am not sure that they are big enough or would be comfortable for your husband. I have found you really have to try them. I would rather stick a 1000 needles in my eye than buy a car but i am going to try an endure the whole process one more time. 😆. Good luck. I hope you find something that checks all boxes and wants and that you are looking for.
I will say I am in the Northeast, so for me a car really good in the winter was one of the most important selling points. And the Subaru is one of the best that I have had for winter driving and most importantly it gives me the clearance to drive on unplowed roads.

If you want to replace the truck, my vote is the Toyota Tundra. A glorious ride. Crazy amount of storage and my 6'7" bil road behind the driver, my 6'6" nephew, and still had leg room to spare. And, my Dh can hook you up with how to install a truck shower. 😉

My Canadian relatives purchased the Subaru Forester because of the way it handled in the snow/ice.

But the Subaru does handle great in winter driving. I work 2nd shift at a 24/7 365 department. At least two days a week I am the only one on my shift…so there is no should I go to work or not even during blizzards, etc. And then when coming home at midnight a lot of the roads aren’t plowed yet and my very hilly roads to my condo certainly aren’t. I’ve made it home and parked every storm…so far. 😆

Yep, Ascent owner here in Colorado. The back end folds flat, with rubber backs for putting crates and stuff. Any Subaru is great in snow. Highly recommend and great for transporting a gaggle of teenagers...lol

We have a 20 yr old Honda Pilot with 200,000 mi on it. It still runs great, and is very comfortable! When we replace it, we’ll definitely look at getting another Pilot 😊

I have a Subaru Ascent- We love it and so does our Border Collie- We have captains chairs in the 2nd row with a 3rd row of seats when we need it. Gas mileage isn't the best but that isn't what I bought it for.
Good Luck!

I would also have gone with another Mazda, but I do think the Subaru handles a tad bit better. Toyota is another that people swear by. My sister-in-law has a Forerunner that she loves and they had 2 highlanders before that. All are rated quite well and known to be very reliable. I think you really need to just keep trying them as I have found you can get very different views about the same vehicle. Cars seem to be one of those things people love or they hate and every make and model has some of both. 😆

I have a Honda Pilot and love it. However, last year they redesigned it and it is much, much smaller. Cut cargo area in half. I'm not sure if they cut leg room, etc, but I do know the Hondas are reliable and durable. They are more affordable than Toyotas. Subarus are great as well, but are on the smaller side.

We have a Jeep Compass and a Toyota 4-Runner. The 4-Runner is great for carting our 2 big and 1 medium sized dogs, and it is big, so there is plenty of space. The dogs are a little cramped in my Jeep, though I do love it.

I had always had Fords and I now have a Honda. I've had it for years just because I refuse to trade in a vehicle until I really have to. I've never liked it and plan to go back to a Ford next time. I can't speak to recent models but the Honda is uncomfortable and requires more expensive maintenance than any Ford I ever had.

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a BMW X3. DH drives the Jeep and loves the thing like his third child. It’s done great hauling kids and dogs and scouts around.
My X3 sits a little lower to the ground and our 12 1/2 year old Lab can get in it on her own, although I don’t let her jump out and lift her down. The back seat is roomier than the Jeep. Great headroom. I’d say the cargo area is fairly similar. What I really like about it is the visibility. DH is 6’ and I’m 5’2”. With the Jeep, I have a hard time seeing the front corners when we are in areas with pedestrians and it makes me so nervous. With the X3, I feel like I can see everything.
We went to Carmax and sat in 50 some vehicles, looking for comfort and visibility. We drove about 5 of them and almost bought a smaller Jeep, but then found the X3 and fell in love.

The Palisade is nice but I encourage you to go test drive a Cadillac XT5. Such a great car. I loved mine so much I got an XT6 now! And I love it too! It has a third row that I never use, and if I do it again I will go back to the XT5. And they don't really cost much different than the Palisade.

I would get a subaru. I have a Forester. MIL had an Outback until a few weeks ago. Someone turned left directly in front of her and she T-boned him at 50mph. The vehicle was totalled because all of the airbags went off. The damage to the front end didnt look nearly as bad as we expected and she was left with some bruising- most of which was because she was wearing her seatbelt incorrectly (the lap belt should not be across your abdomen).
Safety ratings matter. I would be hard-pressed to get anything other than a Subaru

I had a Traverse and I did not like it. I felt like I was driving a school bus. I had to do two expensive repairs on the air conditioning and the gas gauge was unreliable. That was stressful. I replaced it with a Subaru Outback. I haul around two corgis just fine. I have a friend who had two golden retrievers and she felt that her Outback was good for dogs.

This was the summer of test drives for us. Not even kidding. Sooo many test drives. Followed by dh researching each vehicle then more test drives. We went with a used Highlander bc dh doesn’t like the motor in the new ones.

I bought a Nissan Rogue last year sort of on a whim. I was shopping for a Toyota Rav 4 but once I drove the Rogue it just seemed so much nicer and it was cheaper. Great fuel economy too. I'm very happy with it so far!

I bought a Honda Pilot in 2007. I was devastated when it was totaled last March by some idiot pulling out of a side street who wasn't looking to see if any cars were coming on the main road. That car never gave me any trouble other than basic maintenance. People complain about Honda's and their ride and road noise, but I liked that about it. I don't like feeling wrapped in cotton when I'm driving. I like being aware of my car and the road.
I have a Hyundai Tucson now. I'm loving the modern conveniences of Bluetooth, Android Auto, and backup cameras, but I sure miss my Honda Pilot.
