I had a great over-the-door organizer full of spices, oils and vinegars, but our new home has a pantry with a pocket door. Now I need to come up with something new. Some constraints:
* Needs to fit on pantry shelf. I can't dedicate a kitchen drawer to spices, and they wouldn't fit anyway. * Needs to accommodate a lot of spices. * Needs to accommodate spice bottles of different sizes and shapes. I don't want to invest in standardized bottles/containers.
Any ideas?

How do I organize mine? Well, what week is it? Lol. I reorganize them constantly because there’s no system that truly works for me. There’s too many items and they’re in too many different shapes and sizes. And like you, I have zero interest in transferring them to different containers.
If you solve this problem, let me know!

I don't organize them. They're in my lazy Susan cabinet on a lazy Susan. I just grab what I need. I love when people have all the bottles that match and they're displayed with cute labels but I have neither the patience or the room to do that.

We've never kept ours in a cabinet or pantry. We have always kept them on an open shelf. I know that's not ideal, but we cook and bake all of the time and we have a lot of herbs and spices. And to find a place to put them away would be very tricky, plus it would be inconvenient.
We tend to go through them fast enough that it doesn't really matter that we don't store them in the best place for long term preservation. And we do keep any back-ups in a closed pantry cupboard. But that tends to just be 3-5 at a time.

I love when people have all the bottles that match and they're displayed with cute labels but I have neither the patience or the room to do that. I agree that they are nice to look at, but I just feel like that means that somewhere there must be bottles with all of the extra that didn't fit in the cute, matching bottles, which means I'd have to have space to store all of my spices in 2 separate places, which I never have had in any kitchen I've had in my life.

I have two baskets with handles on them. A-M are in one basket and N-Z are in the other. I can just grab the basket that I need for whatever I'm cooking.

Let me start by saying I have a lot of spices. I do have some spices in a cabinet, mostly the larger bottles. But my main organization is that I use a drawer in the kitchen. That way they are laying flat with labels up so I can easily see them. That organization has been such a game changer. No more digging through the cabinet! Go to Amazon and search spice drawer organizer and you will see what I mean.

I have two lazy susans, one for cooking spices and one for baking spices/sprinkles/colors. That's as organized as I get. Oils and vinegars sit separately from the spices on a shelf.
I like the stair step shelves that Library Lady posted above.

What is this “organization” you speak of? 🤔 My spice cabinets are narrow and deep so there really is no good system for that. A lazy susan won’t fit and the tiered shelves don’t make sense in a cabinet like mine so the jars are just all shoved in there, with the most used ones closest to the front. There’s stuff in the way back that hasn’t seen the light of day in probably five years. I have most of the savory stuff in the cabinet on the right and most of the ones used for sweet dishes in the cabinet on the left.

LOL did anyone else think the title was how do you organize spices for a PARTY??? and I'm like... I dont want people all up in my spices messing up where I put them and can find them easy! LOL
That being said, I have 3 shelves, the middle shelf has all my spices in their original containers, I try to organize the ones for baking (like cloves, nutmeg, etc) towards the back and the ones I use the most (ie onion powder, garlic salt, basil) in the font. THe bottom shelf holds spices like salt and garlic powder and pepper that we get bigger containers of...
I'll back myself out of this thread now, LOL.

My method doesn't tick all your boxes
I have a 72jar spice rack - I have it sitting on my counter but it also came with wall mounting hardware. Yes - it requires me to transfer spices from the plastic bags and jars I buy them in but I don't typically end up with 'extra' that doesn't fit in the jar - I don't tend to buy the really big containers - just the standard spice containers or often the ziploc type bags. The only things that I have to store separately are my salt and pepper grinders and if I've bought a new of jar of something before actually running out. I have a small open box in the cabinet above that holds my extracts and those fit in also.
I've alphabetised them

This is how my spice and baking cabinet is utilized. I have spices and herbs on a 3 tier step and on the lazy Susan is oils and salt/pepper. I got the bins at Target and they house baking goods like flours, sugar, baking soda, baking powder as well as immersion blender, hand mixer, and attachments (whisks, beaters, etc) for my 2 KitchenAid mixers. You could always use the boxes for the spices that are larger.

Mine are in a thin lower cabinet next to my stove. The cabinets won’t hold anything else, so I put spices there. I have them in clear bins that I can pull out when I need them. Top shelf is things like bouillon, oils, vinegars. Middle shelf is what I use most, garlic powder, paprika, etc. bottom shelf is spice blends like Lowry’s, rib rubs, ranch powder, etc. super easy to pull them out and slide them back in.

Tupperware spice containers on their lazy Susans. They take up way less space if you take them out of the glass jars and round containers. The one closest to the stove is what I use most. Next is Asian, Greek, and Latin, then miscellaneous. Baking stuff goes in the pantry.

I have stair step shelves in a cupboard and one side is for cooking and the other for baking. They're not in the pantry, they're in the cupboard next to the stove. There are a lot of them. They are alphabetized so that I don't have to pull everything out all the time, I know where they should be. They're in their original containers, so easier to sort through than the cute matching ones (though I like the way those look!)

I have A LOT of spices since I make so much from scratch. I like to use a cabinet near the stove.
I’ve used a lazy Susan for my most used spices for years and years. Over time, I added a spicy shelf that wrapped around the inside of a cabinet. Then we moved to a house that didn’t have upper cabinets and had drawers instead of cabinets. So I started using bins and I’ve stuck with that system. Home Edit has some clear bins that are sold at Walmart that are strong. I have them organized by basic cooking, basic baking, then Mediterranean, Asian, Mexican, salts, and extras. The bins are small enough and sturdy enough that I can lift them out of the cabinet one handed. Oils and vinegars are stored on the lazy Susan now.

I have the square tins of spices (Kroger brand come in those) in a fridge bin (I think that’s what it’s called) on my counter. Those don’t store sideways… Then anything in a glass or plastic jar goes in the drawer under that counter between my stove and fridge laying in its side. Anything in a big container is in the upper cabinet. Oils and liquids are on a rolling cart.
I don’t have a pantry.

I have a “as seen on tv” Spicy Shelf”. I put a clear lazy Susan in the center instead of just lining up spice jars along the edges on the bottom. Here’s a link for Amazon. a.co/d/cbhlvwA

I use something similar, with the spices arranged alphabetically. There are still some that are in bottles too large for the stand, so those go off to the side.

I have a pullout shelf in the cabinet next to the stove. I have my spices there. They are mostly Penzeys with black lids so I wrote the names on top with a silver paint pen. When we were traveling and living in our travel trailer I had them in two metal tins with lids. Baking spices in one, other spices in the other. Again all the lids were labeled. Would something like this work? You could mount it to a shelf.
