A elderly neighbor is wondering what to do with these dolls from her childhood. She says they are about 80 years old. She doesn’t want to sell them, but if they are something that is worth restoring, she’d like to figure out who to get them to. So, if you know anything about dolls, are these worth tracking down someone to take them, or should she just donate them? She says she has a bunch of clothes that go with them. Any thoughts? At all? I know nothing about dolls. Thanks!

Maybe check eBay for similar dolls and see what they are selling for. Also, does she have doll shows in her area? We still have doll shows around So.Cal. and vendors sell and buy. She can inquire there. Or, if there are no doll shows around, check out the website for a doll show. Usually the vendors are listed and she may be able to contact one of them.
Good luck. And I really like that doll on the right of the photo. Her face is so cute.

There are 'doll hospitals' out there ... They do repairs etc and might know a home or use for parts!

I would also suggest doll shows. They tend to be a very helpful bunch who will be excited to see these cutie babies.

Does she have children/grandchildren/neices/etc to pass them down to? What a treasured gift that would be to receive from your mother/grandmother/aunt.
If she doesn't, perhaps she could speak to an antique dealer in her area. I am also drawn to the doll on the right, with the yellow dress, she's so sweet.

The one in the middle looks like a Madame Alexander. I don't know about the value, but that might help with a search. ETA: My memory was wrong. The middle one looks like an Effanbee doll I had when I was young, except the toes on mine are more defined.

Well, it turns there’s a doll show in the area next month. I don’t think that she’ll want to go to the effort to physically take them there, but I’ll email the organizers to see if they have any ideas who they should go to. Thanks!

There are Facebook groups for doll and toy identification and the people in those groups would probably know exactly what those dolls are. They typically will not give you a value, nor are you typically allowed to ask.
But once you know what she has then you can check "solds" on Ebay to see if others have been sold recently and for what.
You can also try taking a photo of the doll's face and doing a Google search with it.

Most aren't worth much, I'm sorry to say. I looked into it before I gave mine away to a thrift store.

As I said in the first post, she is not interested in selling them, nor does she care about their value. She just wants to be sure she does the right thing with them. Thanks girls!

Just watch out if there is a neighbor boy named Sid. He tortures toys.

Are there any local history museums in her area that might want them for their displays? We have a history museum here that has vignettes set up for different decades and there are all kinds of period specific antique artifacts in them that have been donated. Maybe that would be a good use for them, and the museum would probably have someone on staff that could restore them if necessary.
I have my aunt’s Shirley Temple and my mom’s Dionne Quintuplet dolls from their childhood in the 1930’s. I had them partially restored back in the 1990’s but they’ve just been in storage since then. I know my DD just thinks they’re creepy and wouldn’t want them, LOL so maybe I should inquire about donating them.

Many old dolls have information either on the back of the neck or sewn into a seam around the butt area. Look for that and it could really help you with the search for what they are worth.

I just thought that perhaps knowing their monetary value would help determine if they were worth restoring. If you find that they are worth very little, that might indicate that either there are a plethora of similar dolls still out in the world, or that people simply don't want them. In either case they could simply be donated or given away if they also hold no sentimental value. But if the monetary value was very high it would likely indicate the opposite. And then she might want to preserve them so that someone else might be able to enjoy something that still carries some sort of historical or collectible value.

When you said "if they are something that is worth restoring," I thought you meant $$. Carry on! Yeah sorry about that! I know what I meant but in hindsight, I could have been more clear. What I meant is whether someone would find it fulfilling and/or worth their time to restore dolls like these. Or even just to own. Moreso than if they were dropped at a random goodwill/antique shop or the like.

In the case of the “old dolls” you are referring to, if you go looking for that info, an arrest warrant might follow. 😂
