I realize it’s the middle of the night there right now, but when y’all wake up, I need some explanations.

That is worse than blood sausage and beans on toast.

Mushy peas is VERY POPULAR in the UK. Mushy peas have been discussed previously, maybe back to the old board?

I am an unabashed Anglophile, except for mushy peas.

I love mushy peas! Don’t knock ‘em till you try them. I’d eat that, just like I ate beans on toast when I lived in England.

I love blood sausage.
I love mushy peas.
Beans on toast is surprisingly retro.
But all together? It seems a bit like pot pie.

We tried them at a local British restaurant and even my husband that hates peas liked them. He said he adds Parmesan cheese to his. Unfortunately the restaurant isn’t there any more but his mushy peas were really good. I have never had poutine but would try it.

Poutine is Canadian, and I've eaten it in Montreal. I think I ate it twice for breakfast. So good!!
Now for those peas, I am not a fan of peas so I don't know if I would even want to try Mushy Peas.

I'm not British but have lived here for a long time, I'd have that without the peas. I'm not a fan of mushy peas. But if you are watching your team on a miserable Saturday afternoon that is the food of Kings, warm belly and warm hands. Although I'm a football fan I had to look up Alferton Town FC, seems they play in the sixth tier. There are ten tiers in English football, think pyramid with Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City in the top tier. Check out The Padded Seat to see hospitality packages in football stadiums further up the football pyramid. m.youtube.com/@thepaddedseat

I would starve to death. I ate almost nothing but egg salad sandwiches when we were in Scotland and Ireland. (Or as I learned to call them, "egg mayo") I don't like brown sauces or beans on toast or mushy peas or basically most everything I think of as traditional UK foods.
I should have been Italian or Mexican or something, anything but Irish/Scottish!

To paraphrase Joey Tribbiani: "What's not to like? Chips, good. Peas, good. Gravy, GOOD!" So I take it you also wouldn't be a fan of the South Australian classic Pie Floater? A meat pie floating on top of mushy peas or pea soup, with tomato sauce on top.

Check out The Padded Seat to see hospitality packages in football stadiums further up the football pyramid. One of my friends is originally from Liverpool, and is a huge Liverpool FC fan. She has flown over to the UK a couple of times to see matches, and I could not believe the food she got with her almost $1000 (!!) hospitality ticket. I expected her to tell me all about the fancy meal, but nope, it was bangers and mash!

If all you could find in Scotland or Ireland to eat was beans on toast, brown sauces , mushy peas or egg mayo sandwiches, you were clearly no where near any one of our wonderful restaurants or cafes. I’ve lived in Scotland for nearly 30 years and don’t think I’ve found anywhere here selling mushy peas (which are lovely done correctly), beans on toast are the sort of thing you would get in a truckers roadside cafe and brown sauces . . . What are brown sauces? Gravy? HP sauce?

The Padded seat Liverpool experience for this season is here, looks good but still not worth the price to me. m.youtube.com/shorts/ackpwMTw2HcI have to say as a YouTube idea, the guy came up with a good one, review the hospitality, see the matches, travel all over and earn YouTube money. I am on the hospitality email list for a premier league club, not sure how that happened, the contact person emails me quite a few times a season with the prices and availability for executive boxes for upcoming matches. It's always a laugh at the prices!

I'm very picky about how I like things prepared though. I found Mediterranean places to eat and things at Tesco. Oh and I did enjoy potato leek soup and make my own now.

Zee, that’s really sad that you couldn’t find anything more inspiring to eat than egg mayo sandwiches, but I think that says more about you than it does about British cuisine. 😝 Also, why would you call a sandwich egg salad when there is no salad in it? 🤔

Well no, because brown sauce is brown sauce eg. HP Sauce, Daddies Sauce and it's just an accompaniment like ketchup. Gravy is brown but it's not brown sauce. Curry can be a myriad of shades of brown but it's not brown sauce so you really need to be more precise in your description. There are tons of non-local food restaurants all over. In my town the only places preparing traditional Scottish fare are the hotels. I can offer you Chinese, Italian, Indian, Maltese, French, Street Food . . . . Oh, my knickers are perfectly in place, thank you, but I will thank you profusely for not saying "panties in a wad".

I wouldn't eat that if my life depended on it. You can find any cuisine under the sun here in Ireland, surviving on egg mayo seems at best a little odd.

What's wrong with it? I'm a fan of chips with mushy peas and gravy. It's one of those "don't knock it till you've tried it" combinations.

Awhile ago I made real mushy peas. I posted here and had advice on which ones to buy, how to make them, etc. We liked them. I didn't put them on fries though, just served them as a side to battered fish (which is what I was advised to serve with them, lol).
I also love beans, although I don't eat them on toast. But I would certainly eat them that way if it was served to me in the UK. My mother (Australian) ate beans on toast for breakfast almost every day, almost up to the day she died.
Whatever that's called in the photo, I'd try it. My motto about food when I'm traveling is that I'll try almost everything, especially if it's a food traditional to that country. I do draw the line at sauerkraut, lol... But, maybe I've never had good sauerkraut. Maybe I'd like it if I was in Germany...?

A meat pie floating on top of mushy peas or pea soup, with tomato sauce on top. Yum, I'd try it! Is a meat pie an actual little pie with a meat mixture inside? That's what it looks like to me in your photo. At first I thought it was like a burger patty (just meat) on top of the peas. Yours looks good to me. I do love peas though. Split pea soup (kind of similar to mushy peas, but a different type of pea I think) is one of my vary favorite soups.
