I'm on the hunt for some (classic) knee high black boots to wear with nicer (but not super fancy) dresses. I do NOT want booties, which is making this particularly challenging. I have some tough criteria: * I am short, with short legs (longer in my torso), so the shaft height needs to be around 14 - 14.5" * My foot is on the wider side. I can fit regular width much of the time, but the boots cannot "run narrow" * Heel height no greater than 3" but around 2" would be even better Do you feel like helping a pea with some online shopping? So far I have looked through Zappos and Nordstrom. This one is all I've found that will likely work, but the heel feels a little clunky for nicer dresses: www.zappos.com/p/womens-naturalizer-kalina-black-leather/product/9449934/color/72Thanks so much for any direction you can offer! Budget wise, if we can keep them under $400 that would be lovely.

Why do women do this to their feet and spine?

Why do women do this to their feet and spine? Why do women do *what* to their feet and spine? Wear boots? So do men. And children. I'm failing to see your point, so help a girl out please!

Have you had a look at Naturalizer? I think they have boots in different lengths ...

I see what you mean. The boots you linked are nice, but a slightly slimmer heel will make them perfect. I have some old 9 west boots that might fit your needs. I tried looking at the 9 west site, but they no longer have that model. I’ll keep looking.

Coincidentally I was just poking around on Zappos looking for boots. Shorter ones though. But I had the tab opened so I browsed around for taller boots after I saw your post. They do have knee-high black Naturalizers with lower heels... did you look at all of those? They might not meet your other criteria though. I agree that the heels on the ones you linked might not be for "nicer" dresses... Although, I put that in quotes because I don't know for sure what you mean. I rarely wear a dress so when I do it's for a real dress-up occasion where I wouldn't wear boots anyway. So probably I've been no help. I will just say that I detest shoe shopping, and boots are even worse than shoes. Thank goodness for Zappos where everything is so easy to return.

Most sizes of the one you posted does have wide(c)
Right there Naturalizers says contact them about size, so a call might help you about heel width or other suggestions.

These are from Clarks. Personally I don't care for the sole being a different color, but I've had good success with Clark shoes. My feet also can't do a narrow cut.
Edited: I can't get the link to work. I've tried it twice and it goes through some other site and the last time it came up 'suspicious.' The shoes are Clark Chamberly Up boots on Clarks.com. Black suede.
They are 2 3/4" high heel.

Just how dressy of a dress do you want to wear boots with? For me, those boots would be perfect, and I would likely only wear them with skirts and dresses. I have a very similar pair that I wore to an outdoor wedding last November. I could have worn a much fancier shoe, but the boots just sort of disappeared and made my dress stand out.
My boots are a very old pair from Nine West.

I think the chunky, wood stacked heel makes them a bit more casual than my current needs. Meanwhile…I’m keeping the tab open

As far as how dressy, think above the knee dress suitable for dinner and the symphony/a play/a musical through the fall and winter months. So, not cocktail fancy, but not a denim skirt if you KWIM? If it helps to have examples, I’ll try and find a couple of things similar and post them.
I have a couple of old pair of Fryes with maybe a 1.5 - 2” heel that I wear with more casual outfits.
And now as I figure out how old they are, I’m thinking I’ve had them about 15 years. I ended up buying them in both black and brown because they worked so well for me. I walk a lot, so they have got serious miles on them! I’m thinking that I’m definitely getting my money’s worth. Sorry for going off on a tangent.
* also, I kind of want to explain my budget. I know for a lot of people $400 for a pair of boots is a lot of money, and with the “how do people afford full priced clothing” thread, I could see how my budget could seem particularly tactless right now. If so, I am very sorry! Truly! In my defense, (with my Fryes as an example) I wear my shoes for a long time. Also, I’m 62YO, so I expect these boots could well last me the rest of my knee-high boot wearing life.

Ha, that one is in my cart as well, GMTA! That said, I’m not sold on the look of that heel. There’s something about it that I feel may look dated in a few years. But, it’s still under consideration.

Unfortunately, with a foot that runs on the wide side of normal, I cannot do the super pointy shoes/boots.

I now know we are a similar size - I e played with a lot of different types of boots and by far my favorite and most versatility or is what I consider a “mid shaft” height - with like a 2” heel. These are Le Canadienne and run a bit small but are very comfortable.
Not sure if something like this is ok, or if you need something more dressy:
(I’ll delete picture shortly haha)

I have a pair of black Aquitalia boots. They’re waterproof and Canadian-made, I believe.
Their website is being worked on so I couldn’t check sizing or heel height. I can tell you mine are more formal than the boots I tend to wear, like Sorels and Fryes.

This has a 15” shaft height, so it might be too high, but I love the button detailing on this: miz-mooz.com/jovial.htmlHonestly, I think that a pointed toe is what makes a boot feel dressy right now, so if those are automatically out, they might all be too casual.

Every time I find a nice boot, I read the reviews and the comments say that the shaft is snug. Here is one, but it only has one review. Zappos boot link

Geeez boots are expensive! Try buying cowboy boots! I wear them a lot and both pair in rotation right now cost about $400 a pair ... but I wear them for at least 10 years! I also wear Blundstones ... not cheap either but sooo comfortable and last forever!

Why do women do this to their feet and spine? Why do women do *what* to their feet and spine? Wear boots? So do men. And children. I'm failing to see your point, so help a girl out please! You mean besides sore calves, foot pain, weakened ligaments, and deformed toes?

That said, i looked through the Le Canadiene site yesterday but I’ll look again! I wondered about the mid-shaft. I thought they might be too “choppy” (for lack of a better word) for my legs.

I’m on my phone and it doesn’t show any info on shaft height or circumference. Fingers crossed that it does when I’m on my laptop!

I ordered 2 pair (hey, I had 5 in my cart at one point so I did whittle it down) to choose from, so fingers crossed that one of them works for me. One is the pair that garcia5050 found, and the second is a pair of Le Canadienne that are over my budget so I have to love them to keep them. Thanks for your help girls!
