Happy Monday (groan) peas! I'm posting this Sunday evening as I know I won't have time in the morning. (eta: 2nd example in another post below) This year, I am sketching the way I see Shimelle do on her lives: once she has chosen photos (and sometimes after she choses supplies) she makes a sketch to guide her. This was what I sketched after I looked at my 2 photos. I started with a very traditional "ledge". I imagined a white/neutral background with rays of pp to lead the eye to my photo, and allow me to add lots of colour in a contained way. Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr but when I started looking for papers to be my rays, I ran into this sun/rays from the new Vicki B line and felt it would be dumb not to use it! I also managed to stay pretty darn true to my sketch using it. I chose to angle my photos and use layered "mats" (scraps and I just had to go with their sizing). And I turned my journaling tag vertical because when it was horizontal it felt like it pulled the focus too far to the left. I hope this shows how the "rays" I've drawn into the sketch could be just a large tag, a large circle/star, or even a simple rectangle of pp down that side of the layout. layout hello sunshine by kirstendrew, on Flickr

Thanks, kitbop. I love your sketch and your explanation of how you thought this through. Will head to Flickr in a bit to leave some love for your page. Those photos remind me so much of one of ds’s dogs, who followed the sun across the living room every day.

Uploading the sketch today, I decided to play with it again - flipped it over, changed the "ledge" strip to a 4" strip across the whole page, changed the tag to a circle/snowflake cluster, but used the rays the way I had originally thought to use them, but this time as a "downhill slope". It was quick and I'm really happy with how it turned out. layout it's all downhill from here by kirstendrew, on Flickr

This was fun! I switched up the photos a bit and used 2 new sheets of paper plus a left-over sheet of blue metallic.

That's simply stunning angel97701! Wow wow wow, the colours especially the ombre in the orange from the rays down is lovely.

Perfect paper for this, justjac. I have been eyeing that one in my own stash since I saw this sketch...

Linda --memory quilts are the best! I like how the rays complement the quilt!

Here (right hand page) is my take on this challenge, kitbop. I substituted the tree branches in for the rays. Hello Smile! by Gramma Dee, on Flickr

Here's my take on it. I really struggled with the sunburst so in the end I just went without it.
