Poor Drake when he got the news... ok that made me laugh.... now it WOULD be entertaining if they invited him and they had a battle/back & forth right there on stage! LOL

Team Aubrey! But for real, Kendrick Lamar was just there a few years ago and he is a good writer and, I guess, performer, but I'm not sure he's really "headliner" material/entertainer the way Drake is. Jay-Z is behind it and apparently feels a type of way about the beef or he wouldn't have chosen either one this year.
I'm not sure who I would like to see but certainly Kendrick Lamar wouldn't be my first choice. Taylor Swift has had a big year (several years) but she's a bit busy! And I'm sure she doesn't want to hear all the negative comments that would get.

I'd honestly like to see a country singer. There are a few I would be happy with.
I am not a Kendrick fan so while the SB half time show will be on, I won't be in Estes in it.

It's true. It was on ESPN, NFL, ABC, CBS and I forgot what else yesterday.

The last Super Bowl halftime performance I actually watched was Paul McCartney in 2005. I have no idea who this Lamar Kendrick is so it looks like my not interested streak will continue.

My work does a hot take question on Fridays and a few weeks ago it was Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake- who do you choose. I've heard their names before but I felt so old because I couldn't answer! I am the oldest person at work- most of them are just having babies and are in their early 30s which is my son's age.
So, no, not really looking forward to this Super Bowl!

i like him, and he collaborates with a lot of people. i was thinking maybe they'd join him, which would be cool.

I like some of his songs. And he does do a lot of collaborations, so maybe there will be special guests. I will be watching out of curiosity.
And yes, Prince was the best!

what is the demographic that watches the super bowl? is it the same demographic that would be interested in this entertainer for the halftime show (or any of the several most recent?)

I think they say it is mostly 30-45 year olds that will watch the Super Bowl. And then you also have to consider location, and if locals will watch. The LA Super Bowl show featured a lot of hip hoppers and rappers, many from the LA area, including Lamar. That was a good show!

We are clearly not the target demographic for both Super Bowl half-time entertainment and their commercials (for the most part). That said, I'll still watch, even though the sum of what I know about Lamar is the whole battle thing with Drake a while back.

We always have a watch party at my sister's house so it will be on even though none of us older folk will be invested in it. Maybe the nieces and nephews will enjoy it as they are in that age range.

I was hoping for some of the new country that has popped up.. Jelly Roll/Kane Brown.. but oh well. I'm not the demographic and not excited.

I couldn’t pick Kendrick Lamar out of a lineup but I was aware of the spat between him and Drake. I’ll watch it because I’m a looky-loo and I love being exposed to new music, even country. I swear some people wouldn’t be happy unless they had dancers cavorting to piped-in yacht rock.

He wouldn't appeal to the 20-somethings I know, nor their >40 parents so this explains it. The younger ones aren't watching for the commercials, they've already seen them online. That leaves a small amount interested enough in the game to watch the whole thing instead of stream while doing something else. Producers should start thinking securing a future audience, if they've given up on us old-timers.

I am so excited about this pick! He is insanely talented and I'm a huge fan. Saw him in concert two years ago. He has had hits with a number of big singers so I wouldn't be surprised if say, Sza, is there, too.
PS: I'm over 50, so I don't think Kendrick is just for young people. And my 20-something kids all love him.

I saw it every time a Super Bowl halftime show comment comes up , and I will say it to the day they stop doing half time shows! THE BEST HALFTIME SHOW EVER WAS PRINCE! SINGING PURPLE RAIN IN THE POURING RAIN!!! Yes, yes. But we all must move forward. 💜 In terms of my favorites, it goes Katy Perry (now THAT was pure entertainment); then Dr Dre plus everyone (but Ice Cube who was probably all "I'm too good for that" yet makes movies for kids, but I digress, though I'll still hold his absence against him forever); and then Prince, for heart and soul and determination alone PLUS I LOVED HIM. I enjoyed Shakira and JLo much more than I expected to. JT really let me down last time. Without Miss Jackson's nipple shield, which is incredibly tame by today's standards, I guess he wasn't that into it. Beyonce and her fabulous hair already had a turn. Madonna is too kooky and a bit long in the tooth for this gig. NO 80S STAPLES PLEASE NO COUNTRY, I HATE IT, UNLESS YOU'RE CHRIS STAPLETON--yeah I said it. I guess JellyRoll would be ok as part of a shared bill with Chris Stapleton and maybe some newer singers like Teddy Swims, guys with really great voices like that that could put on a cohesive show.
