Good morning.
How are our resident insomniacs? How did you sleep? I slept on and off.
Dinner is rechauffe seasoned chicken sandwich for dh while we watch the debate.
What's on your menu?
What is everyone up to today?
Today we have someone coming to measure and replace a slider that was delivered w/a noisy shake when we open or close it. Then we're off to the camera store to possibly purchase a camera. I have to decide if I really need or want one.
Wishing everyone a happy, easy day ahead!

Happy Tuesday!
I'm just plugging away writing my socials at work today and it's going well. I need to run out and pick up my wine order and some prescriptions at lunch today. I feel much better than yesterday so I'm glad about that. I don't think I slept much better but I don't have the stomach pain that I had yesterday so that's a plus.
I'll probably have my parents over for dinner or take dinner to them. We'll have kielbasa with potatoes and onions. I'm going to watch as much of the debate as I can stay awake for but I'm also recording it in case I crash early. I hate getting that wound up before bed but I'm sure I'll be yelling at the TV.
Hope you all have a great day!

Good evening, DH was out early this morning to catch a flight to Gothenburg - it’s his first work trip since my surgery but he’s making up for it. Between now and Christmas, he’ll be away nearly every week. I’ve just had a quiet day - not many chores to do, so I’ve done a fair bit of knitting. I’ll be out for a while tomorrow and I know I still need to pace myself. Dinner tonight is some leftover steak from Sunday. I’m going to freshen it up a bit by making a mushroom sauce to simmer it in and then cook some pasta to serve with it. No debate here - it will be very late our time and I can’t stand the voice of one candidate, who will just lie anyway. There is football on - Germany v Netherlands - so I’ll watch that until half time then go to bed.

Happy Tuesday! I have not been sleeping well. Having strange dreams, night sweats, etc. scrapmaven Happy Belated Birthday! I've been on here sporadically the past few days and it looks like I missed your special day. Getting ready for three back to back to back conference calls. Who dreams up these schedules? After a cool start to the day, 47 degrees when I left home, it is supposed to be in the low 80's. Think I will get a long walk in when I get home. Must get back to strength training. I don't know what is holding me back. I love it when I do it. Dinner will be something with a rotisserie chicken. DH purchased one yesterday without telling me. I saw it last night at 9pm. I prefer to shred them when they are still hot so... Have a fabulous day dinner friends!

I had a great sleep! It was only 6 hours, but 6 hours without getting up for a bathroom visit or lying awake for an extended period is pretty rare these days. I'm sure that slightly cooler overnight temps helped and am really looking forward to our heat wave crumbling. I have a tightly timed, but doable, first half of the day planned. Yoga, shower, eat, p/u DD at the airport, home. I will probably grab something to eat on the drive north. I know I will be making this apple, kohlrabi and beet salad from Ottolenghi for dinner but no idea what will go with it.

I slept much better last night and felt very rested this morning.
I’m getting a pedicure this afternoon and so looking forward to it. I love the leg and foot massage!
Tomorrow I turn 59! One more year until I can get Canada Pension! DH is terrible at birthday presents so I told him to just give me cash so I can buy something on my trip. He was very happy about that - no need to do any shopping.
Supper will be rechauffe pulled pork fries for me.

I'm running errands today while DH has his Tuesday morning golf group. scrapmaven: Regarding buying a camera: Before our trip to Spain in 2018, DH bought a digital camera that cost about $1,500. He should have taken classes at some point because the pictures I took on my Galaxy S7 cell were equal to if not better than his camera. He took the camera on our next 2 or 3 trips, lugging it around while I took better pictures on my S22. We got him an S22 before our trip in May and he realizes he'll never get the same pictures on his camera. Just my 2 cents worth. If you do buy a camera, take the classes! Dinner might be pork chops with baked yams. Oh, I got my DNA results back and am mostly Scottish with some English, Welsh, German, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and 1% from the island of Sardinia!

Thank you so much, stormsts. You're so thoughtful. Sounds like you're having those lovely post menopausal hot flashes. Yuck. cadoodlebug, thank you for the good advice. The camera store has free classes when you purchase your camera. If I purchase I'll absolutely take the classes. It's been many years since I've owned a camera. Back in the olden days my favorite part was developing photos in the dark room. taylortroop, enjoy every second of your birthday. You have such an exciting trip to look fwd to, as well. If you need any cruise tips I'm happy to help. I cannot remember where you're going. Would you please remind us?

How are our resident insomniacs? How did you sleep? I slept on and off. I was up way too late texting with a guy. I did manage to sleep a couple of hours which is good for me these days but still bad ... We have a bobcat prowling the area around my condo complex ... looking for rabbits and cats I like that we have a lot of wildlife here (moose, rabbits, etc) but the circle of life is disturbing ... I need to go and run a few errands soon and then I don't have much else planned today ... that's OK with me! No idea what dinner will be ...

Happy Tuesday dinner friends. The housecleaner is here so I’m hiding out in the backyard with the puppy. When she leaves I’ll go upstairs and finish prepping for the quilt retreat that I leave for tomorrow. I’m still undecided if I’ll go back and forth or stay. Dinner is taco Tuesday at the local Mexican joint. Have a great day ladies.

Wow, my errands turned into a marathon! Walmart, Raley's, Michaels, Comcast, Ulta and Costco! I bought some Lancôme foundation at Ulta, haven't used any since the pandemic. Also bought a new lip gloss ~ both came to $96 but I had some gift cards from DH so it was $35 out-the-door.

scrapmaven: We fly to Boston and sail from Boston up the east coast. We stop in Saint John, New Brunswick, Charlottetown, PEI, Sydney, Nova Scotia and Corner Brook, Newfoundland, then back to Boston. However, prior to the cruise on the 25th, we have rented a cottage and are there next week. Looking forward to that as well.

cadoodlebug And I was tired before reading your whirlwind adventures today! Whew! taylortroop That sounds like an awesome itinerary! I've now heard back from the allergist, and like my primary care physician, suggested a pneumonia vaccine, followed up with redoing the labs 6 weeks after the vaccine. Unfortunately, the primary care office doesn't do the vaccine, so I'll schedule something at CVS. I also decided to schedule a 2nd opinion appointment at a different ENT because it can't hurt to see what they say.

He gave me great information about the pneumonia vaccine even though at that point I don’t think I was old enough. So I got the pneumonia vaccine and from that point forward instead of having a sinus infection once every six weeks I had one maybe once every six months. It was a smartest thing I ever did. I wish I had remembered that when you were having all these issues. I think you are on the right path

It's definitely not something that had crossed my mind until my allergist did the labs a few weeks ago and they showed how low my levels of antibodies were. I'm definitely not the typical age to be getting it, but if it can lessen how many infections I'm getting, I'm more than on board!

Happy Tuesday!! I slept pretty good last night. I went for my pre-op appointment yesterday and she upped the meds for nerve pain. I slept from 10 pm to 5:30 this morning. I feel so much better today!! Dinner tonight is just going to be grazing. I am so bad about cooking when dh is not home. I am going to attempt to watch the debate but as soon as I feel my blood pressure rising...I am turning it off. cadoodlebug the cameras on phones today are so good, aren't they!!! I have an older iphone but my kids have newer versions and the difference in quality of photos is very apparent!

Hi I had 3 important medical appointments today and my brain is kind of done with concentrating on things. I want to think about dinner.
I told my dad I didn’t think he had eaten fish in a while so maybe he should get himeself some. Thinks that’s a very good idea! Eats a massive lunch. He may have a sandwich. Apparently I make them how he likes them. Joey Tribbiani would be very unimpressed. I think he will have a sandwich. I could have a tuna melt. I like my life without wheat and sugar. I didn’t know how much. Doctor agrees. I see my GP on Friday.

I had a lousy night with barely any sleep. And now, at almost 3:00 in the afternoon, I am so groggy that I feel like I will fall asleep if I sit down for too long. I had another salad for lunch and dinner is either going to be chicken or the squash soup that was in my Costco delivery. Most likely the soup because I won’t have to do more than heat it up and pop the bowl into the dishwasher. Making chicken will require much more effort. Effort that I don’t think I can muster up today.
I had plans to work in the yard today. More trimming of the overgrown bushes on the far side of the house and then haul wagon after wagon of wood chips to put below them. For some reason, the weeds have not grown in the soil on that side of the house. The front planter at the far end of the yard was so deep in weeds that you could no longer see the soil. Maybe the way the sun hits? I spent hours on my knees pulling all the weeds and then churning the soil to prevent them from coming back. Ha. They returned with a vengeance, as if thanking me for giving them freshly churned soil to root in. That is the first area that I spread the wood chips.
I will eventually learn how to handle the planters here. And at least the soil is wonderful. My California soil was mostly horrible sand and clay. I spent years pouring various bags of stuff to break down the clay and then mulching it to enrich the soil. I think all I need to do here is deep mulch to prevent the weeds. Well, and relandscape the front yard.
I shouldn’t bother with it because it was ok, but I love working outside and I am used to having exceptional yards and don’t mind putting in the work to achieve that. And it was a lot of grass. And not nice grass. Years of not being properly cared for left it with giant patches of clover growing in the grass. And the ground is strangely uneven. Like something heavy was dragged around when the ground was wet, leaving divots and gouges in it. You can’t tell by looking at it because the grass makes it appear even, but trying to walk across it the first time felt like walking on a rocky hiking trail. I want to kill all the grass and start fresh. Maybe with creeping rosemary like I put in the California yard. It grows to about 2 ft tall with little purple flowers. And one plant can spread 4 to 5 feet across, filling in a surface quickly. And of course, it smells amazing and it’s edible. With the insane heat this summer, I haven’t been able to do much. And the winter here brings a lot of rain. This is going to be a long project.

Before our trip to Spain in 2018, DH bought a digital camera that cost about $1,500. He should have taken classes at some point because the pictures I took on my Galaxy S7 cell were equal to if not better than his camera. I had the same experience in Vietnam in 2017. I took my DSLR, but because I don't really know how to use the camera properly (in different lighting conditions), DSO's photos taken with his old Samsung phone were so much better. I haven't bothered to take my DSLR on any of our subsequent trips. The only time I use my DSLR these days is when I need my 300mm zoom, and taking sports photos - which is once or twice a year. I was able to find the australian timtam cookies on amazon, so my daughter in law's friend will get two out of three things I was supposed to sent. When we were at the airport, we saw an Asian couple rip open a packet of Tim Tams and gobble them down. I said to DSO "I bet they're thinking what's the big deal about these biscuits?!" Dinner was a Greek-style butterflied chicken with Crispy Roasted Parmesan Potatoes that DS requested, and green beans. I enjoyed it a lot.

Sorry to all the insomnia sufferers! Ugh, not getting quality sleep is so difficult! I'm so thankful for sleeping very well most of the time. ntsf.....I enjoy all your skiiing/ camping stories---your life is so adventurous! DH and I visited Seattle several years ago, and just loved it. When I told him you were HIKING Mt. Ranier, you should have seen his face! P.S...Also .love that your DH used to go to Burning Man---did you ever join him? I'm intrigued and need to google. I was up way too late texting with a guy. Hmmmm...I hope he turns out to be a great guy! I 'm not up to cooking tonight, so we're having frozen stuff (but FRESH veggies, at least! I HAAAATE frozen veggies!)

scrappintoee.. you will never see me at burning man!! hate the heat.
I only hiked several 3 mile hikes at mt rainier.. not that much. when I was 19, I worked for a BSA camp that led climbs up rainier every week. I went up three times.. summited twice.. once we camped on top for two nights.
now that I am 68.. my backpacking trips are 6-9 miles round trip. I am usually going by myself. this was special that I had my daughter and daughter in law with me. My parents were doing a lot more hiking at my age.. I have something to aim up too.
I was lucky to be brought up outdoors. and my hikes are really not that ambitious or off the beaten path.

Sounds like the perfect present taylortroop. Your trip sounds awesome. How cold will it be? I had pasta fagioli soup from the Italian grocery. Low key day here. bc2ca that salad sounds delicious. I’ll look for kohlrabi at the store. FYI a new product a Trader Joe’s are freeze dried sour cherries. My favorite fruit. It’s an interesting texture for sure. They aren’t making me cough like freeze dried strawberries.
