Over the weekend I turned the TV on briefly (I think Saturday night) and they were talking about an active shooter on a Kentucky Highway. I have not heard much about it since, even though it sounds like he is still missing. The only thing I heard was that he bought an AR15 then went and found a place to sit off of the highway and started shooting at cars going by. He could be anywhere. Why are we not hearing more about this or seeing info about his car and his photo everywhere?

They have his truck and AR type rifle.
They have posted his picture.
They are still searching for him in the immediate wooded area.

I have read articles about the shooting and they have posted his photo. Some are wondering if he killed himself in the forest. But people are told to be on alert and lock their homes.

I saw it on the national news last night, it looked like they had his gun and car and weapons, so I dont know if he has more, or if it isn't bigger news bc he hasn't managed to kill anyone?

You know where I heard about it? Tiktok! They also know his name and it was being posted along with his picture. But I couldn't tell you if it has been on any news channels as I refuse to watch the news.
I did hear about a wonderful thing last night. Again, on TT. A group of truckers surrounded a school bus that had been to some competition or something. There were kids on the bus. Families were following. All of a sudden, the bus was surrounded by several 18 wheelers as a protective shield. Word was then getting routed somehow to the families to follow the group to a safer spot.

Because mass shootings, particularly when no one dies, isn't news. Anymore.

We are getting a lot of news coverage on it but that's probably because it's just a bit north of us. He did text someone the day after the shootings that claimed Couch texted them and said he was going to kill himself so who knows if he is alive or not. Knoxville local news coverage

I find the different approaches to terrorist attacks interesting. Here is BBC article from the Christchurch mosques attacks five years ago, explaining that our Prime Minister at the time, Jacinda Adern, urged the media not to publish the terrorists’s name or give him any notoriety at all. I really like that approach, and was interested to see there have been several movements in the US along the same lines. Let all the reports about such terrible things be about the victims, not the perpetrators; don’t make the criminals famous.

KiwiJo I agree they should not give the shooter publicity, but in this case they are still looking for the shooter. So they need to get his name and face out there.

Oh, I missed that the person is still out there; yes, that does change things. Scary!

I watch cnn pretty regularly and follow all of the news outlets on Instagram and haven’t seen much of anything. Strange that some of you are seeing more of it. Hopefully he isn’t still out there alive waiting to act again.

And in the evening I watch the network news channel. They showed some of this story on the World news segment.

I am in Louisville. I saw it for a few nights on the national news (NBC). There has been local coverage of course and Governor Beshear has been putting out posts and texts quite regularly. Unfortunately, there hasn't been anything new to report so it might be slipping off radar, at least until he is found dead or alive. Saw a press conference where authorities were talking about nature taking care of things and perhaps a body decaying in the woods would attract buzzards, etc. which would help locate him if he indeed is dead.

I was watching live coverage via YT. Then nothing.
It’s likely because nobody died.

I'm angry that attempts to introduce Red Flag laws in Kentucky haven't made it past the committee hearing stage. Couch was charged in February with "terroristic threatening" (dismissed when victim failed to appear) and has two previous convictions for other charges. His family has said he suffered from PTSD. This is the situation where a Red Flag law can avert a crisis. We need to be able to take guns away and/or stop someone from buying one when in crisis. KY lack of gun safety laws
