Dear friends,
I so admire a business with not just a quality product but which loudly declares its support of freedom and democracy and Kamala Harris/Tim Walz. The far right media is gunning for Penzeys. They have long been vocal in their support of progressive and liberal policies.
I've copied and pasted today's email at the bottom of my post.
I just placed a large order but that wasn't necessary to receive 4 free popcorn seasonings. (Value is $25 and is free with $25 spending online or just $10 spending in their stores.) Also half price on all items that start with C or N. I got chili powder, cinnamon, and curry among other staples. (I was just reading that Ceylon cinnamon has health benefits as opposed to other cinnamons... I don't remember what they are.)

So yes, with just how powerful the images are of Vice President Harris in our store Saturday I can see why the right wing media is out to scare away every other business from welcoming her in and “Bud Light” us out of existence.
Whether this is to be our doom or instead we are able to use all the attention to usher in a wave of record growth and store openings could well do more to shape the future of capitalism than pretty much anything else for some time to come. This is the battle I’ve always wanted even if it did arrive a bit sooner than I had expected.
So I do have to get on all this, but for yesterday I just found myself marveling at the mountain of emails that had come my way and all they had to say to me. For most, responding was pointless, though now and again I would try. But then there were just a handful that were something different. Almost like they set out to convince me of something only to find at this point they were struggling to convince themselves of it.
Before I shut my mailbox to start on this email I sent off my final email of the night to Bob who I had back and forth-ed with a few times earlier in the evening. I like to believe his gears were turning. Here you go:
Bob,
Her living here in Wisconsin, not white in 1960s America, five years old, separated/divorced parents, rented flat.
Fifty-five years later California Attorney General, US Senator, Vice President of the United States.
Those aren’t prizes that come in Cracker Jack boxes, Bob.
For anyone to achieve those things is remarkable. For her to achieve them as a non white female child of immigrants is without precedence. That on top of her achievements she can so naturally comfort a woman in tears in our store and inspire a young woman so completely and with such honesty is just beyond words.
That you want to believe she couldn’t have achieved all she achieved on her own but was somehow handed all this because she dated the right guys or something shows just how systemic racism and systemic sexism work in us.
Day one Biden put her in charge of a southern border that was chaos. What a jerk move. Nonetheless it was arguably the best thing he could have done. Now, despite what you believe, the numbers show it’s more under control than it has been in decades and she’s ready to be the next President of the United States.
You aren’t a bad guy Bob, but you are so close to being a much better version of you. Let go of what you’ve been told about her and instead open your eyes to her path. But it’s not just where she’s come from it’s where she’s going to.
She opens the door to the 60-70% of Americans who never have been quite allowed to fully live the American dream like you and me.
Rewatch the video of her in our store. Watch that girl’s eyes light up. On 11.5.24 we have the chance to make young women everywhere fully believe they too can be president. Or we can keep that door locked for yet another generation.
Isn’t opening that door worth something?
Isn’t opening that door kind of worth everything?
Please let go of your old thoughts and build new thoughts around just what a Harris presidency could do for America, do for all of America.
