and he is doing well. Trying to think of food I can make and take to him. As far as I know, he is having no trouble eating anything he wants. I did make lasagna and chicken pie and took over to him earlier this week. Looking for suggestions.

Glad your son is doing well. I would keep anything you do make on the low fat/grease side. Many people without gallbladders do not do well on those types of foods.
I've been hankering for a good roast with potatoes, carrots and onion.
What types of foods does he like?

The day after his surgery, he ate a Moe's burrito! But he is walking 3 miles a day, and is jealous of all the people he sees running or jogging. He's not big on roasts.

The day after his surgery, he ate a Moe's burrito! Sounds like my son. He did very well after he had his gallbladder out. When we left the hospital, we stopped at the Walmart Market on the way home to to pick up his scripts. He insisted on going in an browsing while we waited for the scripts to be filled. He ate just about anything he wanted. Now, he does watch highly spicy and greasy foods as sometimes they don't agree with him and sometimes its okay.

I had mine out last December. I ate very bland foods and low fat for several weeks. Even still, I had several unexpected “episodes.” They are not fun. I hope he can avoid that.

Does he like soups? Chicken noodle or tomato soup with a nice bread (baguette or sourdough) would be my pick for the first couple weeks until he knows how the system is going to respond to richer/fattier foods. Grilled chicken and vegetables are something he can heat up or eat cold.

When my kids are feeling under the weather, or recently had wisdom teeth out, I made them pastina, it was very comforting and filling.

I’m glad to hear he’s doing well!
Can I ask, was it laparoscopic? I have a huge gallstone and had laparoscopic surgery in March, but it turns out my liver is in the way. They couldn’t remove it so now I’m looking at open surgery with the liver team. Fun.

It’s different for every person. DH had his out years ago and since then he can’t eat green peppers. A friend of ours can’t eat pepperoni at all. I had mine out about five years ago and I can pretty much eat whatever but really spicy food gives me bad heartburn now and excessively greasy stuff is a no go. But I can eat French fries and things like that without any issues, so go figure.

Had mine taken out in 1999. I eat anything I want. I never had any restrictions on what I could eat.

I really have had no issues since I had mine out years ago. I would just make him his favorite foods.

edie3, just wanted to add that hopefully he was told to take a stool softener if using narcotic pain meds. IME, doctors aren't great with this tidbit but nurses are awesome. Especially if he is eating whatever he wants comfortably, he does not want to get backed up with a healing abdomen. Hopefully not TMI to discuss with his mom.

if using narcotic pain meds The pharmacy was out of what was prescribed and he had to wait until Dr called in new medicine. Long story short, he is not taking anything! He is a much better person than me. The whole process leading up to surgery took forever, and I was complaining about it to him. He said "Mom, it's not like I have a gunshot wound". Burn!
