I found a Krusteaz cinnamon swirl crumb cake mix in my pantry with a best by date of 1/9/23. Would you make it?
UPDATE!
I made it this morning and it turned out great! Tastes great too. I did add 1/2 tsp of baking powder as LucyG suggested.

I'm probably the odd woman out on this but I'd make it and see how it turned out.

Yes definitely since it's just the dry mix. Packaged things like that last for a long time past their best-by date.

Yes and I'm usually a no about these things! Dry ingredients should be fine long after the BB.

Yeah, I'd guess the worst that could happen is that whatever leavening agent is in it might be old and the cake might turn out denser than you expect. But it won't hurt you.

Yes. I just wouldn't expect a perfectly risen cake.

Yes, assuming there were no little critters in the edges of the bag when I opened it.

Yes, it won't hurt you. The worst that could happen is that it's not the best quality.
I have been making my way through all sorts of expired things in my pantry since I literally did not cook for the past two years and had had a fully stocked pantry!
We haven't died yet. I think I'm now through everything expired. (But it was only canned and some dry goods, nothing potentially dangerous)
For fun for the last couple months, DH and I played "guess how old this is" while making dinner 🤣

Yes. At worst the baking powder or soda would be past it's prime and it wouldn't be quite as good.

I found a Krusteaz cinnamon swirl crumb cake mix in my pantry with a best by date of 1/9/23. Would you make it? No way! I just finished cleaning out my pantry and found a Krusteaz cinnamon swirl crumb cake mix from 01/23 and a Texas style honey sweet cornbread mix from 12/22. I think I will use them up this week. 😁

I would just add half a teaspoon of baking powder to boost the leavening power.
One aged-out cake mix failed to rise, so that’s what I do now. One time I added it and I guess it wasn’t needed, so the cake came out all poofy and airy. Not the way it was meant to be, but it was cool and tasted fine.

I wouldn't eat it because I dont like cinnamon swirl cake. Not because it was bad or something, lol.

yep, I sure would. The worst that could happen is that it won't rise as much as it would have when it was fresh!

No, not over a year out of date. Flour can go bad. I usually give that stuff a year out from BB date.
