I live in a decent sized city, so yes. The month we moved, they started construction on our main road (October 2022). They are almost done with the over pass (two years later), but it will go on until sometime next year. I think they said the 7 bridges near us are all being updated. They sorely needed it.

Yes. It is called Pennsylvania! LOL
I love the pop up construction. And the summer bridge projects.
My current fun is the construction of a new highway through my neighborhood. Any given moment, I get a new detour home, complete with explosions and excavating. One long-term detour goes down a road near me and people drive like such fools to get through it that they put police cars along the way with flashing lights, but no police officer in the car. Other detours agh like a half hour to ten minute drives!
Ugh!

I-45 has only been in designated existence since 1971, but it has had at least one section under construction ever since. Its predecessor (US 75) was pretty much under construction since it came to be in the 1940s.
I remember when the section through Spring was a divided 2 lane road.

KC always has something going on, but it's gotten worse in the past 12-18 months because they're really trying to get EVERYTHING set up for the World Cup games and toss in a new Toll expansion? Forget about it.
Mini rant: Closing lanes when they're off for the weekend.

In MA we say we have 2 seasons: Winter and road construction.

This summer there was a lot of road work around where I work, the interstate I drive home on and tons of side roads. Inconvenient, yes, but it was definitely needed.

In Chicago we only have two seasons. Construction and winter. We have four seasons in MN: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter and Road Construction. So my answer would be yes. But that’s the price you pay when your roads are rated #1 in the nation (which surprises me!) so I’ll deal with it. www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/minnesota-best-roads-in-america-consumer-affairs/ETA: The small city I live in has a whole plan posted online for which roads will get upgraded every year which makes it a little easier to avoid the parts that are currently being impacted. They do a certain number of miles of roadway improvements every year so it’s just a matter of whose neighborhood is up for their turn in any given year.

I live close to a future Intel plant so our city has been redoing everything to handle the extra traffic. There has always been lots of construction here but it has really ramped up.
That being said, there is a overpass downtown that I think they have been working on for 3 years, at least. Progress is so slow...

It doesn't even matter here (Atlanta metro) bc there are so many cars traffic just crawls no matter where or how far you are going. Except at 2AM, when all roads become Nascar time trials tracks. I have experienced that driving through Atlanta in the wee hours - it's terrifying when groups of cars racing one another swoop around and past you on the interstates. They are usually performance cars with loud revving engines. I drive I-95 from SC to Virginia every 4-6 weeks. It has never 'not' been under construction. Even my quiet little neighborhood of 87 homes will be subject to it before the end of the year as they are re-paving our roads. Overall though, road and bridge construction helps to support my household! My husband's career has been as a civil engineer and now he runs a CEI (civil engineering inspection) program.

One time I got a super speeder ticket because I was trying to get OUT OF THE WAY but I was the first car so I'm the one that got caught. I was so mad, it was during Covid times and I was on the way to work and I was like BUT I'M A HEALTH HERO lolol I didn't actually say that at all but I was sure thinking the trooper could have let me go or reduced the speed so it wasn't a super speeder, especially as he could have caught 3 other people besides me. Oh well. $700 or so later, I now resist the urge to go faster in order to get out of the way. I'll probably get shot one day for refusing to go over 82. (I was going 92 in a 70 when I got clocked)

Zee - I’d be mad about that too! And lol at the “Covid hero” part!

Yes, and yet the roads are in bad shape. My neighbors' 95 y/o mother ( who recently passed) had a way of putting a positive spin on things, and would say, “Look at all those strong men with a good job working hard for our city - I love seeing that.”

Okay so this is pretty funny. I’m the one who started this thread which is why it’s funny. I left this morning to go get a flu shot, get a few things from the store while I was there, then stop by my church to water the garden. One hour total. Everything was normal on my street when I left. Came home to this. And a big racket going on at the end of the street, with two flag men, jackhammer, and who knows what else. See, it follows me around. 🫣

My daughter's campus (College Park) is often referred to as Construction Park. When we moved our son down to Auburn we were almost shocked at how quiet and peaceful the campus is bc there is only one huge construction job in the middle of the campus (currently) and it seemed damned quiet, LOL.

Everywhere everyday. On roads, on freeways and bridges. Well they aren’t working on the bridge, but they have closed it every night since 8/1 until 9/30.
One of the highways around me is Highway 50 and they have been working on a big project on it for what seems like years now (Sacramento) And I think they are working on 5 too. And always on 99.
