How do you sort/store your scraps?
I have quite a few in several different containers, some sorted by colors, some folded in with bigger pieces/yardage, and I am trying to figure out a sensible system that will make it easy to store/use them.
Right now, the majority of scraps smaller than a fat quarter/fat eighth I have produced in the last couple of years are sorted my color and put in ziplock bags.
I am on a Facebook group dedicated to scrap projects and the topic of scrap sorting/storage came up.
Some people suggested cutting the scraps into the largest usable size you can get out of it. This kind of makes sense to a point, a small scrap could be cut into a 2.5, 3.5 or 5 inch square leaving as little waste as possible, but I am thinking anything over a 5 inch square should be left in as large of a piece square/rectangle as possible.
Any really long pieces could be cut into 3.5, 2.5, or 1.5 inch strips.
Does this seem like a good system? Do you do anything different? How small of a scrap do you save? What do you do or plan to do with your scraps?

I’ve only been quilting for a few years so I don’t have a TON of scraps, but I cut them down into the common “precut” sizes. Right now they are all just stored by size, but eventually, as I accrue more, I will likely split them into ROYGBIV-type containers.

I've tried in the past to post a photo and it won't work. So I'll try to explain.....Look into Bonnie Hunter's method!
I have Iris carts (carts with drawers/wheels) I have 3 towers of 3 carts each stacked without wheels. Each drawer is labeled starting with non-batik fabric.
Labels: 1" 1 1/2" 2" Light, 2" Med, 2" Dark 2 1/2" Light, 2 1/2" Med, 2 1/2" Dark 3" L, M , D separate drawers 3 1/2" L, M, D separate drawers
I continue with this until I get to 5". Then it's 5"- 7" L, M, D separate drawers
Then I start with batiks. I haven't broken these up into 1/2" increments because I have less of this fabric.

I toss or give away anything smaller than a fat eighth. I used to keep them in a large basket and then one day decided to give them all away. I’ve never regretted it even once. I have enough fabric to last me until I go and then some. I also use a lot of leftover fabric for the back and make pieced backs. It’s economical and I’m not left with scraps I’ll never use.
My one exception is a charm quilt for kids. I’ve been collecting 4.5” squares over the years, mostly of themed fabric. I’ll cut 1 or 2 blocks out of any leftover fabric that seems like it would fit in with the theme. (IE, no baby fabrics/pastels.)

Im not a quilter... so why am i answering... lol
But i use felt.. some rolls and some flat square pieces... i store them in the iris boxes for scrapbook paper in colors (roygbiv).. then those go on a shelf in my guestroom...
Scraps go into the same iris boxes... and because its felt i keep all sizes... sometimes you just need a tiny pink nose
