Last night I watached a Daily Show Tik Toc about the basicly defunct Foxcon deaal to build a factory in Wisconsin. I pretty much forgot about this but do remember TFG getting a lot of credit for this deal.

It failed like so many of his businesses:Trump Shuttle Inc., launched by President Trump in 1989, defaulted on its loans in 1990 and ceased to exist by 1992. Trump University, founded by President Trump in 2005, ceased operations in 2011 amid lawsuits and investigations regarding the company’s business practices. Trump Vodka, a brand of vodka produced by Drinks Americas under license from the Trump Organization, was introduced in 2005 and discontinued in 2011. Trump Mortgage, LLC, a financial services company founded by President Trump in 2006, ceased operations in 2007. GoTrump.com, a travel site founded by President Trump in 2006, ceased operations in 2007. Trump Steaks, a brand of steak and other meats founded by President Trump in 2007, discontinued sales two months after its launch.

This is the first paragraph of below Verge artical which shows a very good timeline of the failed Foxcon build.

Foxconn, a company that manufactures and assembles some of the world’s most popular tech products, including the iPhone, announced in 2017 that it would be breaking ground for its first facility in the US. This deal famously got its start as scribbles on a napkin, the particulars agreed upon by Foxconn chairman Terry Gou and former Wisconsin governor Scott Walker: Foxconn was going to get a $3 billion state subsidy in exchange for investing $10 billion into an LCD manufacturing plant that both it and Wisconsin hoped would create 13,000 jobs.

I remember they were going to start producing some parts here. I remember he really pushed the idea of bringing manufacturing home but none seems to have actually happened. It’s really too bad. I know Biden seems to have at least started the ball rolling in this and I hope it continues. The chips are important but we need more. Supply chain problems during Covid really made this hit home we shouldn’t be dependent on other countries for so much.
