Shouldn't the church lose its tax exemption if it is involved in politics? Who decides that? IRS?

The Catholic church becoming so damn political is a big reason our family stopped attending years ago.

I like what Merge posted. Pay taxes and allow certain charitable deductions.

They also need to keep an eye on the pastors who milk the churches for millions living lavish lifestyles like Joel Osteen.
Some foundation bought a house near us for their pastor to live in. $4 million on the water. He rarely even lived there because he had four more for his personal use, all paid for by the foundation. One night, the house got struck by lightning and burned to the ground. The name of the foundation--ARC Ministries You can't make this up. I think it's a sign that God won't put up with this foolishness.

In atlanta they could start with Ebenezer. They are so bold as to have the news film some politicians from the pulpit. SMH.
I'm all for politics out of churches.
Both pastors at my church don't mention voting or who to vote for and I'm there frequently.

My church + pastor gives an annual sermon and did today on what elections mean for Christians and it could not be further from what First Baptist presented. I am so grateful for a pastor who does not share who he votes for or suggest a proposed candidate. Rather, he reminds people that loving everyone in the same way Christ did looks nothing like the current divisiveness. That we were never meant to idolize our country or political leaders. We should be respectful of the office, of the position, etc and respectful of EVERY person regardless of what they beleive. I know he has people in the pews who get highly uncomfortable hearing this, but I am so grateful he is willing to acknowledge that there can be people of faith who share some beliefs about policies, and not others, and still share the same faith.
To me, when churches mix the two, it comes down to people seeking power, not truth.

So many Christian churches are far from following the teachings of Jesus. It doesn't get more liberal than Jesus, someone who would be pro-immigrant, pro-helping people in need, pro-love and peace for all people. I think every church should have to pay taxes. It's big business now. Look at the size of some of these massive money-making Christian churches! Why shouldn't they pay their fare share of taxes?

Didn't the Pope just make a statement about Americans "choosing the lesser of the evils" because both our candidates "don't value life"?

Didn't the Pope just make a statement about Americans "choosing the lesser of the evils" because both our candidates "don't value life"? Yes...... I will again say, pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. It means people are allowed to make their own decisions. When Pope Francis said Friday that U.S. voters must choose between the "lesser of two evils," he didn't outwardly make a judgment between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, but said their rejection of immigrants and support of abortion rights, respectively, equally weighted down both. But put in context, the statement represented a bigger swipe at Trump, argued Nayyera Haq, former President Barack Obama's senior director of cabinet affairs, in a panel on CNN. www.rawstory.com/pope-francis-trump/

one of our leaders started talking about voting, following the news etc.. then he switched to a survey he wants us to fill out---"make your voice heard".. on our pastor as we rehire him... it is to be constructive and not a vote.
it was sort of funny cause he got our attention --with the beginning something we never hear from the pulpit.
our message is vote.. up to you to figure out who or what.
taxes would put many churches out of business..

Which other type of business do we allow to pay no taxes because their business model might not be strong enough to afford them?
