I'm kinda new to the junk journaling world.. And I am loving it. Anyways, I made a book and almost done with the insides, but the cover is throwing me off. I should have done the cover first.. but I didn't and the insides are not really matching the cover. The cover is cute as it is though. I hate to cover it but it just doesn't jive.
It's an old cookbook, the cover is a bright'ish blue checked with a big spoon and knife on the cover with the title. White I love it as it is, the insides are more towards the dark greens, maroon and almost a horse/bird/butterfly (ish) theme. It's just happened to go in that direction. I don't know what I was thinking. I need something to bring it together.. Any suggestions??

Could you use ink/paint to distress the cover, so it's less "bright"? Maybe do ink splatters of the colors that are included inside, on the cover?
What about using a nature themed stencil with ink/paste in a few places on the cover to bring some of the bird/butterfly theme to the cover?
You could also try using rub ons (49th & market) depending on the texture of the book cover.

Are you able to add any pages at this point? Maybe a few transitional pages in the front that work from the colors of the cover to the colors in the main part of the book?
I also do very much like the previously suggested idea of using inks to subdue the front cover---almost like a stain on wood.

You could gesso a bit of the cover here and there, then add some inking and/or stamps.

Those are some great suggestions... I like the idea of muting the blue and adding some rub-ons that could blend it together. And maybe a little stencil with some of my colors... This has got me thinking!! Thanks guys.. just what I needed. I really wanted to keep the front cover as much as possible and these ideas are perfect to hopefully blend it together. Now if I can get the idea onto the book .. haha. Looks good in my head!

Since this is the cover, I may want to seal it with glaze or decoupage medium once you are done. Would love to see it!

I apply as thin a layer as I can. It's easy to add more, if necessary.
I have found that cardstock will wrinkle, but in my book I'm using for my junk journal the pages stayed nice and flat.

Then I'd rub it gently with my finger to ensure it's well adhered. I hope you'll post a photo when you are done!

Definitely leave the title like that! I love when you can still see what the original book was. So much charm.
