For me it is. The master tub is my favorite self care thing so I would pass on a home without one.

I must have a a large tub. I don’t care about the jets. The tub we have now needs the jets replaced just because they are really old and yucky looking , but there is no need to replace the tub. We also the a tub in the second bath. We roved the powder room and changed it into a a pantry. The plumbing is still there so it would be simple to replace the powder room. The powder room is exactly 3 steps from the guest bath.

When we built our house 30 years ago we could have a tub like yours or a step in closet (not a walk-in, but bigger than a standard closet). The bedroom had a step in closet that I knew would not be big enough for DH's stuff AND my stuff so he got that closet and I got the step in closet in the master bath. Or other bathroom has the tub/shower for the kids. I could see it being a deal breaker for families that have kids (or grandkids) to not have a bathtub at all, but I don't think you necessarily need one for the master bath.
However, there are times when I could use a good soak and the kid's bathtub just does not do the job. It might be more comfy now that I lost 40 lbs, but I would much prefer an outdoor hottub over any soaker bathrub.

I hope to take out the big jetted tub from our main bathroom when we update. Neither one of us use it and it's just taking up space. When we remodel all 3 bathrooms, we'll leave one tub in the guest bathroom. The other we'll convert to a walk-in shower. We most likely will not move from this house, so I'm not concerned with what any future buyers want.

Literally cannot remember the last time I had a bath so I’d prefer not to have one. Massive waste of space imo.

No bathtub anywhere in the house? probably a deal breaker; no tub in the master bedroom? No problem.
When I was younger, I may have thought I would use it and may have with small kids, but now I doubt I would use it. Also, I don't even have a master bath in our home, so I can't be too choosy. Also, I rarely take a bath. Really the main reason to keep one now is to wash the dog.

I think a tub is necessary for resale. Does it need to be a big garden tub or a jacuzzi tub? No. But families want a tub somewhere in the house.

Definitely not a deal breaker - or actually, having one in the ensuite (we generally don't call the main bedroom master in Australia) would turn me off. We built a house a few years back and turned the bath area into a huge shower. I haven't had a bath in forever and it's just another thing to clean.

I would want a tub, but I can not stand jetted tubs.

For me it is. The master tub is my favorite self care thing so I would pass on a home without one. I thought we could do away with the tub as we planned a bathroom reno and then a skin condition flared in a way that suddenly mineral salt soaks were part of my treatment. And I fell in love with my tub and use it all the time. Schlepping to another tub in the house is NOT the same thing at all. IME, other bathrooms are tub/shower combos and more for bathing kids than a relaxing soak. Bridget in MD, there are lots of nicer tubs out there that have a smaller footprint and give you more shower space. It's hard to tell with your photo, but looks like you could put the shower where the tub is now and the tub coming into the room where the existing shower is. FWIW, a deeper, narrower tub without jets is what I'd be looking for in a home.

I think you need a tub somewhere in the house but it doesn't have to be the master bath.

Not having a bath wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me, I hate baths and can't remember the last time I had one. A nice big shower is much more appealing. We had a big corner bath with jets in Australia. Never even tried it out. What a waste of scanty dessert water.

Not a dealbreaker as long as there is at least one tub somewhere.
We are going to redo our master in the next two years, and the giant jetted tub will go. We are thinking of replacing it with a dry sauna, and we are enlarging the shower, which will be nicer for me than the tub. I haven’t used it once in the 12 years we have lived here!

I love a good bubble bath soak - but not in a jetted tub.
When we built this house it never occurred to us to reconfigure the master bath. It is a giant waste of space. The huge tub is under the window and you have to put a foot in the tub to close/open the blinds. And the shower feels a bit small/cramped. Then across the room from tub and shower (and I mean across the room it's almost 10x10) is the double sink vanity and toilet. There is a great wall between tub & toilet but I can't put a furniture piece there because the damn furnace vent is there.
My dream is to gut it, put in a glass shower and one of those gorgeous free standing deep tubs - maybe an old fashioned look on feet, but likely just one that is flush with the floor. And change up the vanity to one with a middle upper shelf unit and two separate mirrors and lights instead of the icky 80s bar with big bulbs and the 4x6 construction grade mirror that is currently there. AND get rid of all the tan/taupe tile we'd originally picked. No more brown!

Didn't read all the replies but not a deal breaker for me. We have standard tub / shower combo in our master. We are going to remove it and put in a nice walk in shower. I never take baths, can't remember the last time I did. Dh likes a baths now and again so we will put one in the bathroom which currently has a phone booth size shower.

I loved my big garden tub in the primary bath and used it a lot. However, since I've moved a few times, I just use the shower in my shower/tub combo. I think though if I were to buy something, I'd like a big tub in the primary again.

Yes, it would be a deal breaker for us. We both use it almost every night. We are doing a remodel of both bathrooms, making a walk in shower only in the guest, but a shower and free standing tub in the master. I love a good soak! Jetted tubs are a no no though, unless it’s brand new. I’m not a germaphobe by any stretch of the imagination, but those give me the heebie jeebies. This is where I am. I watched a video once about how it is practically impossible to get the gunk out of the jets. If I were buying a house with a jetted tub, I would replace it with a freestanding soaking tub. I large tub is a must for me. I have a difficult time going to sleep and staying asleep. My nightly routing is a hot soak in the tub, followed by about 15 mins of reading + a progesterone tablet and I am out for the count! I cannot get to sleep without my nightly soak.

It would be a deal breaker for me. I guess I could ask for concessions to remodel a bathroom if its a buyer's market. It doesn't necessarily have to have jets, but it needs to be large and in the master bathroom.

I love my soaking - NOT jetted - tub and use it every night. It is in my master bathroom. It really helps with my restless legs. No soaking tub wouldn’t be a total dealbreaker on a house I truly loved, but I would really miss having one.

I am a Senior, when we built our house 23 years ago, we chose to have a shower instead of a tub in the Master. There are two other bathrooms with tubs in our house that DD enjoyed as a youngster. I am not a bath tub person, showers are the way to go for me.
