I've been on the west coast for a couple of weeks but got back this past weekend, went for a hike with a friend on the Appalachian Trail and we gathered some Pawpaw fruit. I googled and found a recipe for Appalachian Pawpaw muffins which I made. I subbed dried figs (we have 2 fig trees) for the dates in the recipe and they turned out well. I'm afraid if I try to suggest to my family they try them, they'll call me an old hillbilly granny but they're good. LOL Appalachian Pawpaw Muffin recipeNow I'm looking up how to germinate the seeds....

Too funny, I'd never heard of a pawpaw until a couple weeks ago on the dinner thread.
I'd like to taste one one day, but will have to careful plan a trip to their growing area during harvest. We don't get them on the west coast and they aren't commercially grown and distributed.

I've tried growing the trees but we moved before they ever fruited. Someday I'll taste the fruit!

We have 3 pawpaw trees. The squirrels and raccoons get them. I think we have actually only been able to eat one in 20 years.

We ordered our trees from a nursery in Pennsylvania. You have to have male and female trees to set fruit.
