Tupperware Files for Bankruptcy (gift article) Not very surprising considering how much things have changed since the 1940s. About 10 years ago we made the switch to nearly all glass containers and I have gotten rid of all my Tupperware. I know people who are still devoted to their Tupperware though.

I like Tupperware but it's so darn expensive. Once I found Lock N' Lock, they have been my go-to.

I still have Tupperware bowls, etc, but I use mainly glass containers now. I looked at a catalog last year, and didn't see anything that I felt I absolutely needed. They have good products. You just can't store spaghetti in them! LOL!

My friend just had a Tupperware party. I'm not really surprised since you can buy nice containers pretty much everywhere now, but it feels like an end of an era. I still remember my lunch box I had as a kid in the early 80's. I loved that thing.

But once I found Lock ‘n Lock, I have been using only that. With Lock ‘n Lock, you CAN store spaghetti in it, and it won’t stain.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now. I mentioned to someone a couple of weeks ago that Tupperware was still selling, and they were surprised because they thought they'd already gone under. I know people who are still devoted to their Tupperware though. I am devoted to my Tupperware. Mainly because I have so much of it, and I feel like I have invested way too much money over the years to get rid of it! My mum has started replacing her Tupperware pantry storage with these Sistema Ultra containers. I really like them, better than my Tupperware, but I can't justify the cost of replacing everything. At least I am getting mum's hand-me-down Tupperware!

Not surprised honestly - I think the party/mlm model is starting to fade (hopefully) and Tupperware is so expensive. I mainly use glass myself but my sister loves Tupperware - BUT she buys it super cheap at yard sales.

I still really like Tupperware products. Mostly the bowls, but they have been such bright color combos the last ten years or so. I don't want purple and teal bowls. I like it when they are more neutral. I can't be the only one that wants white bowls??

They are definitely expensive, but they do last. I will miss the option. I have a lot of non-Tupperware containers, and they fall apart more quickly, but they are easier to find, so most of what I have is sistema or lock and lock anyway. I do have some Tupperware lidded tumblers that get a lot of use.
I would love to switch over to glass anyway, but I live in a house of klutzes. If it is breakable, it is broken.

Dang. I love Tupperware. I have my pantry staples organized in modular mates. I may have to get in touch with my gal and purchase some extras just to have on hand. I have noticed lately that Target sells Tupperware, and I wondered if something was going on.

I use mostly glass food storage but did buy a couple large Tupperware containers from Target over the summer. It's always sad to hear a company struggling.

I have never been to a Tupperware party, nor ever remember owning any Tupperware (ducks and runs for cover). Is there anyone in peadom like me?

I have seen Tupperware in Home Goods lately.
My MIL has sold it for over 50 years---she only does a setup in her home once in a while now (she is 78). I wonder how she feels about this. I am guessing she knew it was coming, but she is a "head in the sand" type, so who knows? We have limited contact, so I may never know.

I still have a few Tupperware containers around. They are old, haven’t bought any new ones in probably over 20 years. I did see Tupperware at Target a few months ago. I liked their bold colors, but didn’t buy any. At a local bazaar, a lady used to sell Tupperware.

I just watched a show about the start of Tupperware. This is kind of sad.
Although we never had any, because my mom has always been old-fashioned and never liked plastic. Our babysitter had all of it including the salt and pepper shakers though!

My mom has a set of Tupperware conainers that are microwave safe. I really liked them, but being expensive, I didn't buy them. A couple of years later, someone asked me to attend their online party, which I did and broke down and pruchased them. I was so disappointed. They are like 1/2 the thickness as the ones my mother has. I rarely even use them. Quality really tanked the last 10 years or so. But its not supprizing to me since there is an emphasis of being environmentally friendly.

So no more popcorn and puke bucket bowls?
Never had Tupperware. My mom and grandma did. We had the juice pitcher with that attachment inside for concentrates like OJ.
I have been using glass for years, probably 10 or 11.
I really like Ello products.

I've called Tupperware "Suckerware" for years. Apologies if you love it, but I tend to never buy name brands because of the higher prices. I do have a few pieces of tupperware though. A few handed down from my mom, a few I found at thrift stores, and one or two I sought out on ebay. I don't hate tupperware, just the higher prices! I'm sorry another American "institution" has filed for bankruptcy.

It makes me sad.. Back in the 80s I went to a Tupperware party.. right out of high school.. I bought a bowl set and thought I was so grown up to start buying things for myself for when I moved out. I still have 3 of the 4 bowls. Lost the lids somewhere down the line. DH used one bowl for paint.. I literally cried and almost divorced him for it.. (kinda j/k).. I use those bowls ALL the time. I see them at Target and want to buy them, but they are expensive.

I have only one piece of Tupperware left - the 3-piece microwave steamer - and I don't ever want to be without it.

I used to have a ton of Tupperware. I had multiple parties back when I was a Navy wife. I loved my Tupperware!
I think all I have left is my Modular Mates. I use mostly glass now. I only use plastic containers when we go camping.

I still love my canister sets. I have about 3 of them to store different types of flower and other baking items. We used a large one for years for the cat food. It was opened and closed twice a day and the seal still works. They make great products and I hope someone buys them at least for the basics.

I've called Tupperware "Suckerware" for years. Apologies if you love it, but I tend to never buy name brands because of the higher prices. I don't hate tupperware, just the higher prices! I've had my Tupperware since I moved into my first home nearly 30 years ago. It's still in near perfect condition. I have had to replace a couple of lids in that time, but I was able to do it for free. Good luck doing that with cheaper brands - although I guess you could contribute to landfill and just buy a whole new set once the lids break. I also have some Tupperware of my mum's that would have to be 50 years old. The cheaper sets I have bought in that time have all eventually broken. My Tupperware mixing bowls with the measurements on the side are the only bowls / jugs that keep the measurements, whereas the measurements on all of the cheaper brand jugs have well and truly worn off. So I am happy to pay extra for the quality. The cheaper ones are IMO and IME false economy. Huh, I guess I'm a Tupperware Sucker(ware)!

I have no complaints about Tupperware quality and longevity and still have a number of pieces, but have definitely moved to glass for most storage. I recently donated a cereal keeper that hadn't been used for 4-5 years after 25 years of service to our family. DS was our last cereal eater and I really couldn't figure out another use for it. Our most loved item is a marinading container. It is pulled out a couple times a week and a replacement to the original that DH let get too close to the grill. Melted corners do not seal well. My sisters and I split the few pieces mom had, so I'm the proud owner of a 60s era lidded measuring pitcher.

DS and I eat cereal, and we like to have several options on the go at once. I only have two of the Tupperware cereal containers, and DSO recently commandeered on for the dog's dry food. Grrrrr

This is sad but not surprising. But like AussieMeg my Tupperware has stood the test of time. I have pieces that we got as wedding gifts, over 40 years ago. I have two sets of the measuring cups, two sets pf the measuring spoons, modular mates, etc, etc. I have other storage but nothing has lasted like the Tupperware.

Aww....this makes me kinda sad. I have fun childhood memories of taking Tupperware on picnics, to the pool, etc. EVERY MOM seemed to have Tupperware, and/or parties to sell it.
I bought some in the mid-eighties, and it is still in EXCELLENT condition! All the other, less expen$ive crap I've bought through the years never lasts and/or the lids stop sealing, etc.
My friend in the eighties sold it, and did very well. She asked me to host an in-home party, and I loved it. Hosting meant you got a discount on your purchase, AND I adored all the cute prizes she gave me, like a keychain with a tiny, lidded Tupperware bowl. I've always loved miniatures, or what I call "Barbie- sized" things. They also had some very cool prizes of items you never realized you needed.
After I hosted the one party, the lady in charge pressured me to sell more, make it a full-time career. I was a young, single gal living on my own and I wasn't about to risk leaving my secure job for selling Tupperware. I was VERY annoyed when she kept pestering me!
One of my best finds was a used, 1970's cake container, and avacado-green bowl with the famous "burp" lid. Both are still in mint condition.
