My daughter is getting married Dec. 27. She's not really going with a Christmas theme per se, but her bridesmaid dresses are Emerald. The groom & groomsmen are wearing a medium brown colored tweed jacket. My husband is wearing a medium brown colored suit. I am having a hard time deciding what color I need to wear. Brown and tan do not look good on me. Is it ok for me to also wear emerald/hunter green as long as my dress is different from the bridesmaids? My daughter is suggesting silver or dark gray, but I don't know that that will look good next to my husband's brown suit. She is really not pulling in any other colors with the green, so I can't pull from any other colors.
Also, where did you all find a mother of the bride dress that didn't cost an arm and a leg?

If it were me I’d look at champagne/gold, blush/dusty rose, dark plum and navy. For stores I’d start with Nordstrom, Anthropologie, banana republic etc.
Congratulations!!

I am probably the most unfashionable person here hahaha, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I think it is a bit of a risk wearing emerald/hunter green if the bridesmaids are wearing emerald green. You're either going to look like a bridesmaid if the colour is too similar, or it will look weird if it's kind of the same but not quite.
In your situation I would try to find a floral dress that has emerald green in it. That way you won't clash with the bridal party.

My maid of honor woke a dark green, I would say maybe forrest(?), my mother wore a medium blue, but there were no other colors. I got married the day after Christmas. The church offered to decorate with white and gold if I wanted, but loving the Christmas season red and green was good..
Another. My friend got married on St Patrick's Day, her bridesmaids wore a darker green, her mom wore beige.. her MIL wore Navy. All was good.

I would not wear green. I like the ideas about navy or champagne. Exactly what I was going to say. If you want to try online shopping, don't look for MOTB dresses because, yes, they are pricey. Look for winter formal wear, and then you can specify style and colour. Congratulations to your DD and her fiancé! And you, of course

Like ~summer~, I was going to suggest a shimmery gold (which goes with brown AND green), but if you could find a floral with some poinsettias with dark green leaves and a touch of gold, that would work for the wedding and be perfect for the holiday season another year. Do you know what the other mother is going to be wearing?

If the green the bridesmaids are wearing is a brighter emerald, you could wear a deep hunter green. Champagne or rose would also be lovely. There's lot of options in velvet which would be great for winter.
I found my dress for DS's wedding at Dillard's online. Nordstrom has free returns when you order from them online. I also like Baltic Born for dresses.

Gold or champagne. Either would go with brown and hunter green.

Those were the colours of my bridesmaid dresses and my mum wore navy ... it looked really nice!
MIL wore black (she asked me first and I was fine with it) ...

My daughter just got married last Friday and I got my dress at David’s Bridal! With alterations it was $200 and it was beautiful if I say so myself!!! Check them out! I had a dark grey since that color goes with everything.

I’d check with your daughter but I think navy would go with both the green and the brown. And as someone who looks *terrible* in tan/brown, I feel you!

Wear what you like and what makes you feel comfortable.
Emerald green bridesmaids dresses don't really go with brown tweed at a wedding. - one is fancy and the other sporty?
And so what? None of the men are staying up wondering if their brown will match anything.
Enjoy yourself!!

I would go with a deep maroon color or even a rust color. Might sound odd but look at paint combos with those colors for ideas.

My first thought was navy. I also like the idea of a dark green floral or maroon. Even a fern green could be lovely.

If gold/champagne don't work with your coloring (I'm thinking you have more cool tones?) I think a cool-toned blush would be beautiful. Slate blue might also work well.

I'd say navy. It should look fine with the other colors. Just make sure you stand next to the bride for photos!

Please ask the bride, not the Peas. Her wedding, her vision. I learned this lesson the hard way!

My first thought was a deep eggplant or a burgundy, but I also like the idea of navy.

I would say a definite no to wearing the same colour of the bridesmaids. A rust or burgundy would look lovely with her colour scheme and should look fine with your husbands outfit however I would also look at your daughter's colour preferences first. I bought a heap of dresses for my daughter's wedding online and my husband got dressed too and the ones that we thought would look best with it didn't.

I'd suggest a nice champagne or warm taupe color. I would not wear emerald green. That's the bridesmaids color and you don't want to look like you're trying to match them. I picked out my mother of the bride dress last month and did not know what color I would end up with. I had colors that I did not want - white, black, red, gold (bridesmaids color), or navy blue (what I wore to my oldest DD wedding). I ended up with a gorgeous icy lilac color. It's not one that I would have thought of before looking, and I'm so glad that I found it. Just under 3 weeks until our DDs wedding! And as far as price, I found it on sale at Dillard's and paid $150 for it. Macy's also had a lot of dresses and many were on sale. David's Bridal is also a good place to look.
This is my dress on amazon I actually saved it to a list on the day that we went dress shopping then I found it in person (on sale!).

I agree with starting with the bride as some are low key and some have a very particular vision, and it doesn't matter if there's pea consensus if she has a different idea. I'm surprised by the suggestion of silver or dark grey if your husband is wearing brown, so why do you think she's thinking of those colors (is it a particularly good color for you). In general, as long as the mob doesn't clash with the bridal party or match, you have free reign, unless your daughter has different ideas. I was in the pick whatever color suits you camp, so don't really understand it, but eh not my circus. Congrats on the wedding! ETA I wonder if this was her inspiration? www.48fields.com/terracotta-and-emerald-green-wedding/I was trying to picture the emerald with brown tweed and decided to google it as I just didn't see them going together. I get it - a definitely fall feel. I noticed that the MOB is wearing a grey/silvery dress which made me wonder if that's where she got the idea from. It's weird though as the FOB is wearing a blue suit. The two of them really don't look like they fit in at all, and there's no pictures of them with the wedding party, just the one with the bride. Anyway, long story to say, looking at those pictures and with your husband wearing a brown suit (when did the father's stop wearing the same as the groomsmen?) I'd pull one of the colors from this bouquet that you like. I'd go with a dusty pink). Then at least I'd know it blends with a brown/emerald theme.

croptilyadrop That MOB had a grey dress on but it had green undertones. It went really well with the colors. Maybe look for something similar. That bride in the pics linked above was so pretty. I loved her hair! Green and orange are probably my least favorite colors, but that wedding was so pretty I would have enjoyed seeing it all.

Those are really hard colors to work with, especially for photos. Gold or copper would be the very best you could do.

I think I'd consider maroon or burgundy. I think it would complement the other colors well.
