EGD UPDATE: All awake and on the way home! A little drowsy, but all good. No structural issues. A little inflammation in stomach. Lump sensation could be remedied with steroids. No signs of cancer, ulcers or masses. Praise God! Great news! I am sure you are SO RELIEVED!! Very much so. Have you had your test yet today?

Great news! I am sure you are SO RELIEVED!! Very much so. Have you had your test yet today? Just got home a bit ago. The worst part for me was trying to swallow over and over. I definitely would not want to repeat the manometry if I don’t have to! My tech was super nice and she got the tube out so fast I hardly realized what was happening - grateful it was quick bc I was pretty miserable after all of the swallowing discomfort. Apparently I have weak esophagus muscles . The tech will send my study results to my GI doc and we will go from there. I think the level of weakness will determine if hiatal hernia surgery is off the table or not. This does explain what I thought was just inflammation that I was feeling while swallowing - it was actually me struggling to swallow but not realizing what it was. It is not all the time, but definitely an issue today. I have long covid and apparently viral infections can weaken esophagus muscles so wondering if that is related? Hard to say. Anyway, test over, now I wait to see how we handle the hernia…

Yes, the swallowing is really hard when you have that thing in your throat. I’m glad the removal was quick! Mine was too, but it felt like a clown car…like it would never end. Longest 2 seconds of my life! LOL I hope you are able to have the surgery on the hernia, and that you find something that will help with your swallowing. It’s so hard when that’s uncomfortable. Big hugs and healing prayers!
