Hi everyone! I know you are itching to know how my date went last night! He lives in my condo complex on the floor above me ... very nice guy but no chemistry ... plus he has two school age boys ... no thank you! We went to an art gallery ... an interesting display based on race and some heavy stuff ... we watched a video where men were in Peru bagging up bird poop on a cliff top to sell as fertilizer ... they would slide the huge bags down the side of the mountain to a large meticulous pile by the sea ... I couldn't imagine doing such a job! Another work talked about the terrible things done to our first nations people here in Canada ... that is a big issue here ... We will be friends. I have no plans today ... again, a big surprise! I lead a boring life and I'm OK with that! Retirement rocks! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I have it posted on Pinterest and a person posted that they remember when kale was used as garnish around salad bars in restaurants way back when! I hate kale! Dinner is up in the air ... maybe soup of some sort! What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

leannec nice to have a new friend! I live a very boring life and most days I’m fine with that although I miss going out with my husband. Dinner here will be cheeseburgers. I’m thinking about making chicken and dumplings tomorrow. Does anyone have a great dumpling recipe to share? I’m a northerner and have never had chicken and dumplings!

Good evening all, Not much happening here today. We went grocery shopping this morning but it was really only a few things - we spent under €30, including meat! Tomorrow we’ll have lunch at Oktoberfest, so we won’t need a proper dinner and the DH is not home for dinner again until Saturday, so we don’t need much, especially as we’re going away in less than 2 weeks. I’ve been knitting, talking to my sister and watching football (muted) for the afternoon, so a good day! DH is now organising dinner. We have two beautiful looking pork steaks and a load of vegetables which he is roasting, so it will be yum as usual.
Have a great weekend everyone

Rough night for me. The fever started right as we went to bed, then the aches and pains. Finally at midnight I took 2 extra-strength Tylenol so the fever broke in the middle of the night. We just got back from a walk which was grueling. I will be fine by this evening. I guess it's my body telling me it knows how to fight the Covid vaccine. LSU plays UCLA at 12:30 so I'll be watching from my recliner. Dinner will be Tomatillo Pork.

I still have lots of rechauffe, but I’ve started thinking about making Swiss steak in the slow cooker. I’ve never made it before but have saved some recipes and bought the proper steak when it went on sale. Of course that will involve making mashed potatoes, too. leannec, I like your meme so much, I posted it on my facebook and sent you a friend request for good measure. KelleeM, I’d never tasted chicken and dumplings until recently, and it turns out (surprisingly, because I didn’t think it looked good at all) it is DELISH. Do it! Hope you feel better fast, cadoodlebug. Thanks for sharing Oktoberfest pix, sueg. Please keep ’em coming.

The most excitement I'm having today is doing laundry so I'll join you on the boring bench KelleeM and leannec! I need to out down my phone for a while and get into some kind of a project. lucyg the mashed potato queen! I'll be at your house for dinner right around 5. You best make double if you want any leftovers. 😂 I'm finally going to make those crunchy beans with sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts.

Dh requested sloppy joes for dinner tonight so we'll have that with fruit (choice of apples, peaches, bananas, and citrus of some sort) and raw veggies (carrots, cucumbers, maybe tomatoes) leannec - boring here also - I did grocery shopping and next up is laundry and dishes. KelleeM - I've never made Southern style dumplings - just the regular ones (balls of dough dropped into hot stew etc...). I was surprised by how tasty Southern Chicken and Dumplings is but the texture and appearance...is less appealing. sueg - love the photos!

Happy Saturday! So let me tell you about my morning.(PVM coming up!) My mom texts and says she has to go to the ER because she stubbed her toe last night and it still hurts. I was getting ready for the day but told her lets see how it goes today because a toe isn't an emergency and they don't do anything for them. She texts back 'sure' so I finish getting ready and call her to say let's go. She's like...oh I called my friend and she's going to take me. So passive-aggressive and manipulative since I wouldn't jump right when she wanted me to. She also told me that her 'sure' was sarcastic. So at this point, I'm pretty pissed because my sister and I take them everywhere all the time. Guess what- the toe is fine. She really likes to go to the ER and have them fawn all over her so we take "emergencies" with a grain of salt and if she had to wait an hour to go, the toe wasn't going to fall off. I'm actually surprised she didn't call 911. She likes to do that. I'm drinking a mimosa and going to binge some TV. I had planned to go to a movie but that's kind of out the window now. Hope you all have a great day!

leannec I'm glad you found a new friend, even if there was no chemistry. Those croissants look delicious ! cadoodlebug hope you feel better soon ! KelleeM hope you find a recipe that you like. As much as I like chicken and dumplings I've never tried making them myself. I've been off for the past couple of days because I fell down and hurt my knee. Left elbow and left knee is bruised and am having a little trouble walking. Hope I feel better tomorrow because I will have to go back to work. For dinner we are having shrimp ceviche.

Hi well I have a quite sick dog. His ear is a mess and we went to the vet today. I am babying him more than usual, but he is mine to baby. lol I saw a wonderful vet who I just loved. She told me she gets along with animals more than people (not possible). That is the kind of vet I want to see. He is cuddly today and will be better in a couple of days.
Dinner tonight is breakfast for dinner. I think it sounds good. I did nag my dad to get himself some fish. I don’t eat it and it’s good for him. (He loves the fish and he really likes how I cook it).
Things are nice here. The sun is bright and it’s cool outside so it’s a perfect fall day!

I've never made Southern style dumplings - just the regular ones (balls of dough dropped into hot stew etc...). Now I need to know what Southern style dumplings are because I've only ever seen regular ones. I'm 99% sure I made them once using Bisquick and would love to see what recipe you come up with Kellee. I've also never made Swiss steak, lucyg . I grew up with a dinner rotation that was meat, potatoes, vegetable (green beans, corn, carrots, peas) with very little deviation. My sis and I were talking about chili the other day and trying to figure out how it came into the rotation. She must have had it somewhere outside of our house because it became her go-to meal on her dinner night. I pushed the boundaries bringing stir-fries to our table after getting introduced to them watching Wok with Yan. For dinner we are having shrimp ceviche. This is one of my favorites! sueg , I really need to add opening day of Oktoberfest to my bucket list. I think it would line up perfectly with the end of a trip to Greece. Unless blood was involved, a stubbed toe isn't getting a trip to the ER from heartless me, Tearisci . Are your crunchy beans from Rainbow Plant Life, jeremysgirl ? I had some blood work done earlier this week and the only issue is high cholesterol. With that and inflammatory issues, I'm thinking of doing a plant based eating experiment similar to what you have been doing. DH and I did it for almost 6 months in 2019/20 but never had our "after' bloodwork done because it was scheduled for April 2020. Dinner tonight is beef & gai lan (AKA Chinese broccoli) with rice.

Dh's aunt rolls out the dough and cuts it into thin strips (if you look at a picture of Cracker Barrel Chicken and Dumplings, those are similar, but not good!). I would consider that "southern style". Most recipes call for biscuit-dough or canned biscuits.

While we were away, my mom was messing around with our smart tv trying to figure it out. (She just has an antenna at her apt building). She accidentally ordered a new release movie for $24.99. DH saw the charge on his account while at the cottage. So guess what I watched last night - Twisters!! It was okay but not worth $24.99!
I’m procrastinating packing for the cruise. I’ve been watching the weather forecast and it keeps changing. I have no idea what to pack - pants, capris, shorts, long sleeve, etc. I’m only taking a carryon so I need to be selective.
Supper was grilled steak, baked potatoes and Greek salad.

Not surprisingly, as soon as I see "dumplings" I assume you're talking about Asian dumplings, and get excited! cadoodlebug I'm sorry that the pre-jab good thoughts I sent to you didn't work. I really thought/hoped you'd be okay with this one. Tearisci ugh about your mum. That's a classic case of the boy who cried wolf. One day she really could be sick or injured, and everyone will just brush it off as her normal shenanigans. bklyngal62 I hope you recover quickly. It's awful when you "have a fall" (as my daughter likes to tease) when you're our age. I tripped down a curb in Koh Samui nearly four weeks ago, and my toe and ankle still hurt when I walk. (Maybe I should have gone to the ER with Tearisci's mum haha!). I had a very late lunch of fish & chips at 3pm, so I didn't want anything for dinner. I had pasta ready if I got hungry later. I had to pick up DSO and his mate from the train station at 9:30pm. Then DD rang all in a tizz because she was locked out of her house, and her new puppy was inside crying his little eyes out. DSO and I had to go over there to break into her house. We ended up buying KFC on the way home at 10:30pm.

leannec I missed yesterday so I didn’t see you were having a date. Better he’s a friend since he lives so close. Pretty sure I’ve never had southern style chicken & dumplings. We must eat northern style ?🤷♀️ I have another secret. Dd1 is also expecting. She’s keeping it in he downlow because of her recent miscarriage. 2 babies close together. Dd2 wants to keep it a secret still because she’s dreading mil’s invasion. She will post every detail on social media. I have myself hidden from dh’s family to avoid all that. Came to the lake and had fried shrimp at the local dive bar. @bklyngal I hope your soreness resolves quickly Tearisci I’m surprised your mom wants to pay the copay all the time at the ER

Great to see your numbers came down. My total cholesterol is 239, but triglycerides(122) & HDL(58) are fine. It is my LDL that is too high at 159. I think part of my problem is too many eggs lately. I'm trying to hold off buying Nisha's book because it would make a great Christmas present for me. But I don't want to wait 3 months. Dh's aunt rolls out the dough and cuts it into thin strips (if you look at a picture of Cracker Barrel Chicken and Dumplings, those are similar, but not good!). They look almost like thick noodles.
