Help! What are these tiles called?! It’s not linoleum…not asbestos tiles or CVT. There’s another name for these and I can’t think of it! They were really common in public spaces in the early 80s…

Are they the peel-and-stick? If not, we just called them "individual floor tiles" or "vinyl tiles". I can't think of any other name.

I think they also called the asphalt tiles.
They also had one they called Harlequin (sp) as it was suppose to be harder and not pit as easily.
OR are you looking for brand names like Armstrong?

Moms theory is that it starts with “Mel” like melamine… Or ends in “ite “ 😂 There is a gemstone called melanite, but I seriously doubt that is what this is. LOL! Maybe she is thinking of the design name? Travertine?

I have marmolem tiles in my kitchen and love them. My fancy aunt did marmoleum in her kitchen probably 25 years ago. I followed her lead. They're stylish (in my 1930s kitchen) and aren't cold at all on the feeties.

Where I work they are called VCT tiles ( Vinyl Composition Tiles). Armstrong makes them and most people know them as commercial tiles.

I call them a nightmare! My dad was not shy about using us for labor. He tiled our entire basement in those. I had to rotate handing him tiles between 4 boxes and make sure every other one was rotated 90 degrees for the pattern. I think I was 10.
