No spoilers here as I'm only on episode 3. This show has so many good people in it but the writing feels so cheesy, the characters over the top. I expected something more like Big Little Lies. But, I've found that if I approach it like a Harlan Coben series, it works for me. It would be better if everyone had a British accent, but still. I don't mind that those are a bit ridiculous at all--it's part of the appeal! At first I thought this was an adaptation of Jennifer Weiner's Big Summer and I had a hard time trying to ignore the similarities. I don't understand the one character who looks like she's 70 with a Cher facelift but is supposed to be some sort of sex object? Like did they put out a casting call for "80s facelift" and they all came flocking or what? Nicole (my husband's other wife, btw) is holding up pretty well. Good for her. She's always been a beautiful woman and great actress. I like Liev Schrieber a lot, and Dakota Fanning. They're slimy here so far, which I guess means they're doing a good job. One thing I'm struggling a bit with is that the bride looks so, so much like my daughter that it's distracting. I have thought that ever since I first saw Eve Hewson on screen. It's especially noticeable when they don't have makeup on. The eyes, the coloring, the nose, the shape of the face, the figure, the mouth to a lesser degree. My husband said the same thing, and even my skeptical son agreed they're very very eerily similar. (As an aside, she's Bono's daughter, which I didn't find out for a while) Who knew he and I would have something so odd in common. ETA I don't care if someone posts a few spoilers as long as it's not the total ending, I just meant "I can't offer any spoilers, I'm only on episode 3" In case it sounded like a command, it wasn't!

But, I've found that if I approach it like a Harlan Coben series, it works for me. OMG, yes. I feel like the show/story is an amalgamation of parody/ironic takes on cliches and it is up to us to figure out who is real? Someone else said to the of The White Lotus as you watch but it is also along the same lines as Harlan Coben series. I don't understand the one character who looks like she's 70 with a Cher facelift but is supposed to be some sort of sex object? Like did they put out a casting call for "80s facelift" and they all came flocking or what? Hahaha, I actually looked up who played Amelia and found that they changed the older woman from British in the book to French because the producer (?) wanted Isabelle Adjani in the role. It drove me nuts that I couldn't place Amelia until I saw it was Eve Hewson. Just have to say, your DD is lovely based on the comparison. Anyway, if you haven't watch Bad Sisters yet, please do. FWIW, DD and I watched the first few episodes of The Perfect Couple and haven't gone back to finish it. We just couldn't get invested and know the death will either be a wild accident or she was murdered by the least likely person and definitely not someone who we suspect yet.

I liked it a lot. I normally don’t care for Nicole K, but she played her role well and it all worked for me. Murder mystery ( true crime is even better ) is my cup of tea.

I binged it last weekend. I know in my reading group there were complaints that it was so different than the book but I read it so long ago that I didn't remember much anyway. I love Elin Hilderbrand books and I had just watched Big Little Lies the weekend before on a long flight so I thought I would give it a try. It was pretty cheesy but I enjoyed it. Not much of a Nicole fan but she was good in it. I thought it was very well cast. Except the French lady. I didn't understand why all the men wanted to sleep with her either.
Overall, it was light entertainment and that's what I was looking for.
If your daughter looks like Eve Hewson you have a very beautiful daughter!

Yes, my daughter is actually really pretty. It's odd that she looks so much like this person, but nothing like DH or me! I can see a bit of MIL in her maybe but she's very unique looking in the family. Maybe they switched babies in the hospital and we're raising Bono's secret love child that was born in Illinois in 1994. 🤣

It does make watching love scenes almost a bit uncomfortable though. I would share comparison pics but I don't think DD would like that. She's a little grumpy about stuff like that.

I enjoyed the cast dancing in the intro. So much that I would never skip it and my dh got annoyed with that. lol I enjoyed the book and the series even though there were definitely different from each other.

krcrafts I loved the dancing scene at the beginning, too, and I never skipped it! My husband tried to skip it every episode and I stole the remote from him. We loved the show! Cheesy, yes, but binge-able. By the end I wanted Tag to drown in the water next to his mistress... he was not a pleasant or likeable person.

I also read the book eons ago and was struggling at first on why I had forgotten so much of the book before realizing that they changed a TON! I loved the Nantucket/Cape Cod(where most was actually filmed) scenery enough to overlook a lot of plot issues! I don't think they developed the Shooter angle enough in the series to have it make much sense in the timeline given with so much happening right after her best friend died. It was a major distraction for me in general - oh we can't explain your absence - um my best friend just DIED pretty sure no one is going to wonder where I am?!?! I do agree the casting of the family friend Featherleigh was weird. I do actually like the ending in the series better than the book (which I reread after finishing the series). ETA and it totally rekindled my dream of house on Martha's Vineyard (which I've always preferred over Nantucket)

I watched it last week and liked it. I agree that it was a little cheesy, but I didn't get creeped out so that was a plus. (I am a total wimp)
The dancing intro kind of annoyed me because it didn't match the vibe of the show very well. I did watch it every time though lol.

I follow Eve on IG and she said no one wanted to do the dance scene but they ended up loving it and having so much fun. It was the last thing they shot. I liked that little tidbit!
