Is this really weird? Ever since the movie shooting, which has been a long time (I had to look it up, 2012).. I just can't bring myself to even be interested in any of the creepy Joker movies, or with Joker in it.
Now I am all about the series when Michael Keaton played Batman and who was it, Danny Devito, played Joker... but ever since that character just creeps me out. They have made him so creepy I just go back to that time. I think if he was a little less creepy and more Danny Devito style it wouldn't bother me.
Usually nothing like this bothers me. I just saw a commercial for a new one.. and I am like ick. nope.
And for the record I am not really into all those Marvel/DC or whatever they call them movies, but I did enjoy the earlier ones.

I don't think it is weird. You associate a tragedy with the Joker. And yes, the current Jokers are really creepy and scary.

Danny Devito was the Penguin in the Michael Keaton version of Batman. Jack Nicholson was the Joker.

Rather than just a cops and robber type of movie, the current Joker movies are psychological thrillers. The movies play with your mind. It is like a Silence of the Lambs type of movie.

The Batman movie from 1989 by Tim Burton is (to me) very true to the comic book world it came from. Then all the Batman movies became darker and darker. Which is fine, but it's its own thing.
Joker's backstory is that he became 'crazy' after falling into a chemical vat or something, and in 1989 that translated to Jack Nicholson's version of the Joker. The later movies has taken a more realistic approach I guess, with the Joker having severe mental illness. And it's dark, because mental illness can be very dark.
I understand what you mean though. The newer movies are very uncomfortable (and Joaquin Phoenix is very good at portraying a mentally ill Joker).
As a big fan of the Batman-movies, I can watch it all. I LOVE Jack Nicholson as the Joker, and I LOVE Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. But they are two different worlds entirely.
For some reason there seems to be a trend where all other superhero movies become more and more comedic, but the Batman-franchise just becomes darker and darker.

I have been waiting to see Folie A Deux for over a year, it’s released on October 4th here. Normally I’m not a fan of creepy/horror movies - I won’t watch It or Halloween or stuff like that but I’m a big Batman movie fan. Heath Ledger took Joker up a few notches but Joachim Phoenix is incredible in the role. He is a damaged human being, not a comic book character and that’s what makes the film so dark. He plays the part with such honesty and rawness, you (general you, but definitely me) can’t help but empathise with him and hope that he’ll get the help he needs and there will be a happy ending. Which, of course, there won’t.
I have been watching all the trailers and Phoenix and Lady GaGa make a great pairing. DS2, who will come to the theatre with me, won’t watch the trailers as he doesn’t want to know a thing about it until he can see it in full. He feels the same as me, it’s the psychological aspects of the film that is the biggest draw and is very relatable on a human level.

And for the record I am not really into all those Marvel/DC or whatever they call them movies, but I did enjoy the earlier ones. I usually love them all. I've always loved comic books though, so when they really started ramping up the movies I was thrilled. Except for the first "Hulk" movie and "Fantastic 4"... ugh. Joker is definitely darker, especially Joaquin's version. I am not sure I'd even be bothered to see this sequel if it weren't for Lady Gaga. I love her and I love Harley Quinn, but I won't go to the theater for it.
