Have you plans set up for access to your phone, email, online accounts etc in the event of your death? We were talking this morning about a news story where the husband was having difficulty accessing wedding photos on his wife's phone after her death. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyegzpx45xoFrom the article Which? tech expert Andrew Laughlin said these differed depending on the company involved. Apple gives users the chance to nominate a legacy contact who could access their data after their death, in the settings menu on their iPhone. Google, which owns the Android operating system, allows users to set up an inactive account manager who could access their Google services after they die. I wasn't aware of these options so am sharing in case the info is of use to anyone.

I have a password book similar to the old school address book in my nightstand. My family always has access to it. Wouldn’t that work? They already know the pw to get into my phone. I didn’t read the article.

kluski, we have password book too, too many online accounts to remember all the passwords, especially ones you use infrequently. But, I'm not sure we have written down phone codes, must check. But, I've since wondered about phones with facial or fingerprint access? I don't have those set up so don't know if you can use a passcode as a default?

My phone has facial recognition but I can also use a passcode - useful recently when I had brain surgery and didn’t look like me for a couple of days! It was the same with my previous phone that had fingerprint access.

Hope your recovery is going from strength to strength. I am feeling really good now, nearly 7 weeks on. I just have to pace myself so I don’t get too tired.

Please do this. When Esther died, I could not access her phone or her computer. My BIL is an IT guy and he says he can work out her computer. Although it's been almost 2.5 years and it is still sitting in the corner of her room. But Verizon will not budge on the phone.
Jeremy knows how to access my phone. My passwords are stored in it. If something should happen to me, I do hope he posts here for all of you. I have asked him to. I know at least he will post on Facebook and I have pea friends there. So someone will know.

My daughter is set up as my legacy contact for Facebook. I didn't know about legacy contacts for Apple. I've just set my daughter up as that too. DD also has my password for my Apple account, in case she ever wants to log in and get any of my photos. TFS wellway !

We have a family Dashlane account. All our passwords go into it and with one master password, we all know how to get into it. The electronic ones are so much easier to deal with than paper. Dashlane gives the option to autofill the password so I can create these impossible to type out ones (really long with lots of combinations). My dh's handwriting is terrible and mine isn't great either so the possibility of writing something down incorrectly and/or not having the password there when we need it would be too great. As for our laptops and such, I know dh's passcode and he knows mine. There really isn't anything on my laptop worth going after. Everything that is important to me is on one of two external hard drives so those are easy to access.

Yes, I have set up both a legacy contact and an emergency data retrieval contact.
My Contact took 3 weeks to accept because they thought it might be a scam because I didn’t earn them that I was doing it. I’m considering adding the second.

I can get into DH’s devices and he can get into mine. Some of those stupid passwords have to be changed every six months and then they don’t let you reuse one you ever previously used, so they get pretty ridiculous.

Honestly no. There is nothing on my phone anyone needs. Photos are backed up to external hard drives. I have left instructions on anything else my executor needs.

My list of passwords is in our firebox and my son has a key to that box at his house.

I think I have a good 90% covered with it all written down in a end of life document I created for my family. It includes informaiton about every account type I can remember that I have.
My son and grandson know the password to my computer and phone.

My list of passwords is in our firebox and my son has a key to that box at his house. I learned something about Fire boxes. They are for fires but not for floods. They apparently expand and seal from the heat of fires. Could be wrong info though... Back to the question. I am making new lists. I truly hate changing all the passwords. Presently I have a pile of papers because it takes more space for the new passwords.
