I didn't want to take attention away from Katlady's thread about doing yoga at home.
But has anyone ever do the Chair Yoga classes I see advertised on Facebook? I've been considering trying it. I have really bad knees. Well, one knee in particular, but the other one is starting to get bad too. I would never be able to do any one-legged poses on that leg, not to mention getting down on the floor or getting back up! I'm unable to walk for a long period of time or stand for long periods of time. Some movements with the bad knee can set me way back.
I've been doing arm strengthening with light weights while sitting at my desk. Since that's going well, I'm looking for other ways to exercise. But I don't want to pay for something that is useless. The ads embrace the notion that one can lose significant weight doing the exercises. You know..."if you start now, by the end of October, you'll be XX lighter!"
I guess I'm looking for a push to do something now. Any positive results from anyone? Or maybe from someone you know? Thanks!

I do chair yoga. I use Bottoms Down on YouTube. I’ve been doing it consistently since mid July. I have a bad back, can’t stand or walk for long periods, and this is great. She has lots of different types of videos and you can choose by length, all chair, more sitting some standing, etc. I am definitely much more flexible and I really enjoy it. It makes me feel good, too! I started with the 28 day challenge and gave up when it was too much standing. I easy found videos with all or more sitting. I like the Be Active classes, they give you a great workout! tiny.cc/BottomsDown

Have you considered a swim exercise class? That would take a lot of pressure off of your knees and help with resistance training. I did a swim class for pregnant women with #2 and it was wonderful.

I would love to have a swim class. I used to love swimming. No pools like that around my area. I'd have to travel 1/2 hour to the nearest YMCA which is doable, but most days, I just want to go home after work and not go back out. So thinking something at home would be good for now and hopefully help me to lose weight and get more excited about going somewhere. I know I need to make myself do it. I just don't have the ambition right now.

I have not tried it but they have chair Yoga at our local YMCA's here. The classes are popular.

If you haven't had physical therapy (or not recently) may I suggest starting there and then ask the therapist for advise on the chair yoga - or at a minimum, run it by your doctor. But seriously - physical therapy can really make a difference

Chair yoga is very popular at a local senior center here. I'm sure it is an excellent option for those with standing and/or joint problems to still work on stretching, range of motion and strength training. I don't see any way that it can make a significant impact on weight loss unless you stop eating while doing it. I would check out the chair yoga options at Yoga with Adriene before paying for something.

I would check out the chair yoga options at Yoga with Adriene before paying for something. Yes, that was what I was thinking. I'm sure it would help me with my mobility issues, but I just can't see how it would help weight issues. I really need to check out the senior center near me. I think I don't see myself as a senior yet! LOL! I'm only 61 and I've got a few years to go to retirement. I've always thought of senior centers to be for those who are 65 & up. I just checked and there is one near me for 50 & up! Thanks bc2ca ETA: Well now I know why I thought senior centers were only for those who have retired. I've looked at the one nearest my house and all the activities are in the AM M-F. Nothing at 4pm or after and nothing on the weekends. They probably have trips during the weekend but that doesn't help me out for exercise activities. No mention of chair yoga but regular yoga, strength training and walking clubs. All during working hours.
