Does anyone know how the longevity of the AE pleather albums compares to the WRMK albums? Iโm wondering if over time the Ali albums also get all flaky and gooey and weird?

Well... None of my AE pleather albums are flaking on the covers or gooey.. That I know of. But mine don't get handled much.
I DID notice that the two "greige" 6x8 albums I put a huge 2020 trip into are not aging well. I picked them up off the shelf a couple weeks ago (right about the release of DD) and was furious that when I opened them, the areas that should flex made a crackling sound and now there are many visible fissures. They are stored on a bookshelf, out of sunlight, and in a house that is 100% AC/heat (I'm not a princess about much- but my house stays between 65ish and 75 degrees.)
I've probably opened, or moved them 2 times since 2020. I've been using the SC/AE pleather 9x12's since they came out- and I haven't yet *noticed* it with them.

I purchased an 8 1/2 X 11 album from AE in 2015 for my OLW project. I ended up throwing it out because of the flaking. I think she was originally using WRMK, though. I'm not sure if that is the case now. I bought a black 9X12 album from AE about 5 years ago, and it's perfect. I wonder if they moved to a different manufacturer. Might be a good question for customer service.

After my experience with the WRMK ones Iโm never going to buy them again from anyone. Those album covers were a mess. They pealed and there were sheds all over the place.

Ali has a 12x12 in the DD sale section, but if itโs going to eventually be all grody like my older WRMK have turned out to be I donโt want it.

I really wish there was a manufacturer out there that was a no brainer / obvious winner for these. I also have peeling WRMK but no better obvious option.
I did order an AED black one from the DD sale category but I really prefer colors (though prefer black to many colors lol).
I REALLY wish citrus twist would offer their awesome albums in 12x12 size. I have and love their 6x8 linen albums - available in such great colors too! Only wish the bookplates were silver instead of gold. I am holding out hope they offer 12x12 one day.

My boxy Scrapworks leather 12x12 albums are all doing well. I think they are between 15-18 years old? I wish they were still around, or that I had bought more of them! I also have some Fabric/Linen WRMK ones from 16-18 years ago that have held up, but I donโt think they sell those anymore?
I have some of Aliโs leather ones, but they are only a few years old. I actually prefer the linen, but we will see how well they age.

None of my WRMK albums are peeling. Why are yours? Climate?

None of my WRMK albums are peeling. Why are yours? Climate? This has come up in several threads. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for whether or not they peel. Mine are stored in a climate-controlled house, and they have all gotten flaky. I really need to contact American Crafts (which I think is the parent company now) to get them replaced. I probably have 5, and I'm using most of them to hold page protectors or temporary layouts. My CM albums from the 1990's are all doing great, though! I'm not sure that AE is still using WRMK. It would be worth a "conversation" with customer service to find out. I'm staying away from them for now. My scrapbook.com albums are doing fine, and they are less expensive.

The aqua WRMK albums I purchased from Target peeled and stuck fiercely. No issues with the ones I paid retail price for. I have lots of extras on hand for the day I switch my post bound to 3-ring.

I have some that have peeled and others that have not, and now I wish I could recall which were wish to see if this was the case for me as well. I know I definitely bought a few at Target, and I only have a few that are peeling---so far, anyway. And mine have always all been stored in the exact same place.

None of my WRMK albums are peeling. Why are yours? Climate? All but one of my WRMK went the dreaded peeling way in a dry, Mediterranean climate (including my beloved 6x12 albums in black and kiwi green, ugh ๐ข). But the greige one from the 2014/2015-ish line (that also came in coral and mint) is still perfectly fine. Go figure! ๐

honeypea,I haven't tried the AE albums but my WRMK albums are all getting "crumbly". A friend and I used so many of the WRMK albums to make retirement sb-s for lots of workmates. It makes me feel terrible if their books are flaky and looking awful now. I do wish whoever make the 12x12 Project Life albums (AC?) would bring those back. At the time they were available I only bought one because I didn't think they looked that sturdy. But that one is still in great shape! And they offered so many pretty covers. Who knew?

But that one is still in great shape! And they offered so many pretty covers. Who knew? They were Project Life by Becky Higgins, manufactured by AC. But the PL brand is no longer with AC (and pretty much defunct nowadays anyway). If you're in the US, you should be able to track some of these down through FB Marketplace and the likes. I'm sure some scrapbookers stocked up in the hopes of having X years in the same album but then quit PL along the way. There must be local bargains to score once in a while.

Thank you sleepingbooty. Looks like some other company would've picked up the mfg of the albums. Of course they wouldn't be allowed to call them PL but seems like a market would still be out there. Of course I don't understand the business world at all.
