Does anyone else's body revolt when the weather starts to cool down enough that you have to start closing all of your doors & windows?
Ugh, every year, I have to get my body to adapt to the change when it gets cooler. Blocked ears, sinus pressure, headache. I need my fresh air!!
Last night it warmed up a bit, oddly enough, after dinner, and I opened one door, and felt a bit better. Then this morning it's a bit warmer still, and so I have all 3 main floor doors open, and I feel so much better. (And it's raining, which typically doesn't do my allergies any favors, but even with the rain, I'm so glad for a reprieve with the doors.)

Ugh, every year, I have to get my body to adapt to the change when it gets cooler. Blocked ears, sinus pressure, headache. I am noticing it this year! I haven't shut down the air and opened any windows since April. I started doing this years ago when my DS was young and allergies were bad for him. He is grown and gone, but it just takes forever to get humidity out of my house, and HOGS! I am surround by hogs here, so the smell is .... smelly. But it has been so cool over night this week that I have opened a few and shut off the air. But my nose is stuffy. I swear it is the hogs, as when I travel somewhere else that isn't Pork Country, I feel great. There were some hogs here in the neighborhood when I moved here, but now it is big confinements all around me, and I notice the stuffyness. Oh well - farm livin'!

We are air conditioning people. There are way too many bugs and my allergies would kill me if I left windows open.

Now that it's getting cooler, it is open window season at our place and I love it! The air in our apartment is fresher and we're both sleeping a little better.

Yes! I love having my windows open, and the top down on both our Miata and Jeep Wrangler, but MAN it makes my allergies mad,

For half of the year, spring and autumn, if the A/C isn't on, I have the all house air cleaner running due to my allergies. There are about 6 months of the year when I can enjoy the outside air and breezes indoors.

For some reason the fresh air in the late evening and overnight causes me to get really stuffed up and congested. I’ve been this way all my life and my brother has the same issue.
I keep the AC on until it’s too cool to need it. I’d love to open the doors and windows and air out the whole house with a good breeze, but I’d pay for it during much of the year because of allergies.

I’d love love love to open my windows for some fresh air. Allergies don’t bother me at all. But, I live in DFW and that is only possible for about 7 to 10 days in late autumn and early spring. If we’re lucky. 😕

I don’t have air conditioning, and all my windows are screened. The climate here tends to be pretty moderate most of the time, although summers have gotten hotter and winters more mild in recent decades. (duhhh … )
The windows in my bedroom and both bathrooms are open year-round, except possibly a few days a year when the weather is so stormy that rain water would make its way in.
I open other windows during the day except on the very hottest and coldest days, or on the worst allergy days.
I need to breathe fresh air!!

I'm just the opposite--I get so stuffed up in a closed up house. And do here, we leave the house open until it's too cold for us to stand it. I do have seasonal allergies, but they mostly affect my eyes.

The second DH leaves the windows open, I can’t breathe. I cringe every time he turns off the AC. And over the last year to year and a half it has gotten exponentially worse. I used to only need to use allergy spray once in a great while, now I’ve been using it every day for over a year. It’s bad. And the humidity is bad for DD’s dust mite allergies too.
In the spring you can literally see the yellow clouds of tree pollen blowing off of the pine trees next to our house. It covers everything in a fine yellow dust. 🤧😷 Super fun.

I can't wait to start opening windows/doors... it's too hot to do so. It's just around the corner though.

It's getting pretty chilly here so I haven't had the windows open much. Some days just open a bit on the less windy side of the house. I'll still crack a window a bit when it's warmer in the winter to let some fresh air in and hear the chickadees sing. And by warmer I mean below or well below the freezing mark.

It's still in the 80s here but I'll leave the door open when the dog goes out to get a little fresh air in the morning. By noon-ish, the AC comes on and the door gets shut.

I imagine that in warmer areas, newer homes built with central a/c may not be automatically fitted with screens, because they don't expect people to want to leave the windows open.

My allergies are actually better where we live now, because we have a wilder yard, as do our surrounding neighbors--meaning not filled with a plethora of flowering trees and flower gardens.
Every since I was a kid I have struggled with flowers.
When I had First Communion, all of my photos show a kid who looks like she's been crying all day because my eyes were just a mess from how many extra flowers were brought into the church. And many of the girls wore flowers in their hair back then as well. (I wore silk flowers in mine.) Even when I was married, I used all silk flowers, except for any flowers already on the altar.
So in our yard, we do have 4 flowering trees, but they bloom at 4 different times, which helps tremendously, and my immediate neighbors are all more the "few flower pot" type rather than the "work all day in the flower garden type", which is a big help for me.
Also, in the last 2 places we lived, there were swaths of knotweed that bloomed in late summer, and we have none of that here, thank goodness. Because that really sets my allergies off.

I live in the south. Heat, humidity and bugs(even with screens) keep my windows closed until a cool day in fall. I did open my bathroom window this morning as it was 63 degrees outside. But will be in the low to mid 80s this afternoon. I love to have them open in the spring. Until yellow season hits. Then they are slammed shut again!
I do love sleeping with them open in the winter. Just a bit of a crack. I love love to have a cold sleeping room.

Sleeping with our bedroom windows open is one of the best things about living in Alaska. We live on a river and having the cool/cold air and the sound of the water rushing by… heaven. Bedroom windows are open even in the winter (not quite as wide as in the summer, but still open!). We even put a cat door in our bedroom door so that we can keep the bedroom nice and chilly and kitty can still come and go, LOL. SOOOOO much better than living with the AC on almost year-round when we lived in Texas!

I'm a doors and windows open year round girl, except when it gets too hot in the summer and I have to turn the AC on. During this last 10+ day oppressive heat wave, I thought I was going to lose my shit keeping the house closed up and curtains closed. Everyone talks about seasonal depression in the winter but mine is in the summer when I have to keep the house closed up for the AC. I have a love hate relationship with my AC.
That said I don't have allergies but I have dust like you wouldn't believe.
I love listening to the rain with all the doors and windows open. When I rebuilt my patio cover, I purposely put a tin roof because I love the sound of the rain hitting it. I wish So Cal had more rain.

Yesterday wound up being warmer and so by the afternoon everything was open again. And today I woke up to it being 69 degrees in the living room already, so I started off the day by opening everything again. I don't know how long it will last, but I'm happy for the reprieve. The weather channel is showing us with maybe only 2 or 3 more days where we reach the 70s, so I'll take what I can get for now.

My eldest keeps a window unit in their room in the summer, but the rest of the house relies on old-fashioned methods. We change which doors, window, & curtains are open based on where the sun is hitting, and we have a collection of box, window, and oscillating fans. According to accu-weather, our highest temp this summer was 94, which is probably 5-8 degrees cooler than the heat index would have been, and I think the highest temp I saw in the house was 85. The humidity made those afternoons unpleasant if we were home, but thankfully there were maybe only 12-15 days between 90 & 95, so it really wasn't too bad. If the temp outside even went down to 88 or 89, then the house was probably around 81 or 82, which felt like a bigger difference than just a few degrees. And anything under 80 at night was fine if we put fans on in the rooms ahead of time.

I have all of my windows and the patio door open until it hits -10C. That is the limit for the stupid water heat so they pipes dont freeze. My condo is usually about 28C all winter (hotter when it is hotter out), so I open the windows whenever I can. I also dont have blankets on my bed just a sheet that is hardly ever used.

In my house, that would mean the second floor is in the 90’s. Our AC is set at 77, but it is completely off right now. It may get to 78 or 79 inside, but it is cool enough now outside that we can just open the windows.

My house is buttoned up with the AC all summer primarily due to the humidity. I can NOT wait until it's cool/dry enough to open the windows and leave them open.

I cannot stand humidity in the house, nor the pollen or other allergens. The windows are shut year round.
Sometimes I leave the door to the deck open while I'm cleaning, though.
I especially don't want windows open while I'm sleeping bc I don't want to hear a single outside noise.

We have the windows closed today because we are about to get rain from Helene. It is cool out, so the AC isnt clicking on. That makes it feel stuffy- no air movement
