DH bought me a portrait for Christmas (yay me! he is definitely a keeper!)
I am reading the Cameo tips thread- how much does it crossover to the portrait? any tips, tricks etc you think I should know?
I can't wait to play!

It is the same program you are using, and youtube is really good for information, I recommend you start with Silhouette of Americas own YT-Channel for the basic. Enjoy your new toy, you will love it

I have noticed kerri bradford has her classes on sale. I am debating whether to take them or not. There are so many you tube videos out there that are really good. I am wondering is she that much better.

I highly recommend Kerri Bradford's classes. I've taken several of them and learned a lot!

I have had my Portrait for a few years. I took the Kerri Bradford first Sil class. It was very helpful and I really like her teaching style. I know you will enjoy your new Portrait. It is overwhelming at first, but you will love it. Be sure and get your free designs too!

Have you seen that subscriptions are on sale on the Silhouette site?

Definitely take advantage of the subscription sale! They only come out a few times a year and are definitely worth it.

a couple of you have mentioned the subscription. I can't figure out what it actually DOES for me... any help would be great. Thanks for all of your ideas and comments.

Yay! So fun I personally don't have a subscription to the Silhouette store. A sub lets you buy images in their store for "free" every month. You pick how much you want to spend on the sub and it is charged to your credit card. It's much cheaper to buy images this way if you buy a lot. However, I just buy them as I need them and I know I spend waaaaaay less this way. I don't mind spending $1 for a shape when I just need that particular one for a project. I have also asked for Silhouette store gift cards for Christmas, birthday etc and then I add those to my account and it's like getting images for free this way (also as I need them). But I know some people like to search the images and buy things they like as they see them. In that case, a subscription is better for them than paying full price for a ton of images every month.

alissa103, thanks for that explanation. I thought that's what it did, but I couldn't tell and I didn't want to spend money if I didn't have to. I think I'll pass on the sub as well.

I don't have a sub either and I'm fine with that. You need to figure out if you would really use it if you had it.

I highly recommend watching video after video until you feel ready to cut. I highly recommend underacherrytree.com and Cleversomeday on Youtube.
