This has just come across my news feed. The story is being reported by the BBC, so a reputable source. Dame Maggie Smith dies, aged 89
She was such a wonderful and versatile actor.

So sad, she was an extraordinary actress with many achievements to her name.
From wiki
She received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, five BAFTA Awards, four Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award as well as nominations for six Laurence Olivier Awards.
Smith was one of the few performers to earn the Triple Crown of Acting.
Her wiki page is worth a read.

Oh no! Such sad news. I loved her portrayals in Harry Potter series, and Sister Act. I have never seen Downton Abbey but I've always wanted to watch. Never found the time. May have to look for it on one of the streaming channels and watch from beginning. May she rest in Love and Light.

I am 71 years old, and the first time I saw her in a movie, I was in high school. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I’ve been following that amazing woman all my life. So sad.

"Go with God, Crispy" in Sister Act II is probably my favorite line of hers. Maybe since I was a kid when it came out and I watched it religiously.(No pun intended).
Godspeed, Dame.

I remember as a 9-10 year old watching clips from the movie during the Oscars and knowing she was a true star. As much as she was an incredible dramatic actor, it was her humor and comedic lines that are my favorites.

I can’t even imagine Downton Abbey without Granny. She was an amazing actress and will be missed.
