We are looking at front load washing machines. It has been suggested that many people put them directly on the floor. Or some put them on pedestals or built in platform. My old one was on a pedestal. How do you have your front load machine placed?

Our last ones were on pedestals with drawers. Current ones are stacked so washer is directly on the floor. If they weren’t stacked I’d just put it on the floor as I’d prefer a counter over the top of the washer and dryer for folding.

Mine is on the floor. I've never seen one on a pedastal or platform before. What is the purpose of that please?

Washer and dryer are both on pedestals. The pedestals make the openings higher, so there is less bending over. Both the washer and dryer pedestals are also drawers to store dryer sheets, spot cleaners, etc..

Mine are on pedestals. I love the higher height and the extra storage space of the drawers.

We built a platform for both washer and dryer. So much easier to get laundry in & out.
Our old set we had boxes that they sat on and the openings of the machine where perfect to just reach in and grab. Our newer set is lower because we have small washer and dryer on top of the machines. ( they are samsung and I love the small washer for washing bras and delicates.)

I'm short so no pedestal for me, I have a counter on the top for folding.

I’ve had it both ways and vastly prefer the pedestals or drawers. Some machines are so low that reaching into the back requires me to actually get down on the floor to retrieve socks from the back of the dryer.
And I’d say that I’d prefer a pedestal over a drawer if there is storage elsewhere. The drawers aren’t tall enough to fit cleaning products upright and I never found a good use for them. If your husband is handy, have him build some bases for far less than you’ll pay for the plastic ones.

Pedestals with drawers. With a portion of my spine fused, I don’t bend well enough to be able to reach clothing that is on the bottom back area of the machine, either washer or dryer. With it on the pedestal. I still need to bend, obviously, but not as far down, making it easier to do. Prior to getting this set, I had one of those grab tools that I had to use to bring clothing to the front of the machine. And the drawers are handy for storage.

The pedatals/platform raise the height of the washer and dryer enough that you don’t need to bend over to get the clothes- you just stand and can reach in to the machines. The pedestals typically have drawers in them for storage as well. Mine pulled out and had a slider on top of the drawer so they could be pulled out- but still have a solid surface to put a laundry basket as well to empty clothes right into it.

Pedestals all the way. Love the extra height.

Mine were on the floor and even though I’m short they were too low to make getting at the stuff in the back easy. Now I have a top loader again and I like it so much more.

Mine is on the floor and the dryer is stacked on top. We have laundry closet instead of a room for it. We've had this pair for a year, and the washer is larger than our old one, which makes it more difficult to reach all the way in since it's so low. I didn't have an issue reaching into our old one.

My front load machines but up to each other, and the doors swing away from each other. I have a garden sit or kneel stool to use to move washed items to the dryer, and use a back scratcher to pull out the laundry from the back of the machines. No bending, just sitting.

Our first set was on platforms.
But we got a new set and we finally painted/added cupboards to the laundry room - it's off our garage so a bit of a mud room as well. So the new set we kept off platforms and they are on the floor. We built a counter over them so there is a place to fold, collect stuff, etc.
I do find when I'm doing a load of towels and taking from washer to dryer (with smaller things I fill the basket, slid it over and fill the dryer) and I'm pulling & tossing, it tend to hit my arm on the upper part of the opening. And I'm Ross and bruise like a peach, so there is always a bruise on my arm lol.

we have the pedestals. Our laundry room is on the 2nd floor, so there is a pipe in the floor for flooding. Well when we first bought our machines 17 years ago, it came with a tray for the washer, it had like a 1" lip and the washer sat in it, I assume to direct the water to the pipe, but if you used the tray, you couldnt open the pedestals, so we took the tray out. If the leak sprung from the wall, the tray wouldn't have helped anyway. I am not sure the washer sitting on top of the pipe really will help anyway...
2nd set, we also got the pedestals. I am grateful for the height, but it is annoying a lot of my supplies are too tall.

My washer is on the floor but as I am short it is not a problem to get item s in or out.
My dryer is mounted on the wall which works fine with no issues with emptying at all.

My machine is in the floor and my tumble dryer is on top of that.
I use the floor placed machine as a reason to deep squat and keep my hips active 😊

Don, you can sometimes have the doors moved so it is easier for you.
We researched washing machines last week, shopped appliance stores on Saturday then purchased from Rona on Sunday. We bought a Lg front load washer with a pedestal in grey colour and the extended warranty. Some stores no longer carry the pedestals for this machine as they have moved onto the next generation of machine with more difficult controls. You can even download more wash cycles for our washing machine (won’t be doing that)..Thank you for sharing why you like your washers.

Our laundry room had a built in platform for them when we moved in. DH recently reworked the laundry room and made the platform lower so we would have room for an an extra shelf above them. I liked the higher platform better, even though the difference is only about 6 inches, because it was a better height for loading/unloading.
It is also a little more difficult to drain the washer now because I have to bend lower. I would definitely not recommend putting the washer on the floor for that reason alone. Frequent draining is one of the keys to keeping a front loader odor-free, and if the washer were on the floor, I would only have about 3 inches of clearance to drain it. I’m not sure I would be able to find a good container low enough to catch the water that drains out.

Ours has always been right on the floor. And right now, we have the dryer stacked on top of it, so for sure I need it right on the floor, or else I'd never reach the dryer controls!

With these new fangled machines I think you can operate the machine from your phone. Having a machine on top I would need a phone to operate it,lol.

There are built-in cabinets above ours, so they are placed on the floor. (Not sufficient vertical space for cabinets plus platform.) I do, however, wish they were raised!

My last set was on pedestals. This set is on pedestals, but there is a washer drawer that looks the same as the regular pedestal under the dryer..
It doesn’t necessarily need a pedestal. However, I need some type of platform to stay off the floor. It’s enough of an issue reaching into the far back of the dryer with it elevated.
Folding on top of the machines is not something I have ever done.

Mine are on pedestals. I like the height so I don't have to bend so far to reach in and get stuff in the back. ALso, it is great extra storage area. I love my front loaders and have had zero mold issues. The door has a magnet that holds it slightly open so it dries out well.

What does everyone keep under their raised machines. We bought our first matching pair and dh built a platform but not sure what to use the space for.
