Do you all like fashion? I just love fashion and the "Fashion Weeks" going on this month. In celebration, we went to see the "Yves Saint Laurent: Line and Expression" exhibit at the Orange County Museum of Art, here in Southern California. It was amazing seeing his sketches and how they turned into beautiful collections. I made this video to share my experience and I hope you all enjoy it. Thank you for sharing! I studied fashion in college and still enjoy it. YSL is one of my favorites. While we lived in Paris during 2010 I was able to visit the YSL Restrospective at Petit Palais. By the time I visited Paris in 2019, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris had opened in the 16th in his former haute couture house. While DH would have enjoyed it, I was so happy to be solo and just take all the time to absorb it! The top floor was where he created his designs and it was set up as if he had just stepped out for a bit. I'll share a few photos of it. If you ever get to Paris, be sure to check it out! I'm hoping to some day make it to the YSL museum in Marrakech, Morocco. In addition to his clothing designs, there were numerous pieces of jewelry on display that he designed to go with collections. I fell in love with the coral pieces! So unique! (photos at the bottom)

I went to the websites you shared and will take a good look at them. If I ever go to Paris, I hope to see them and other fashion history sites. Thanks so much for taking the time to include the links and pictures to your post. So cool that you studies fashion design. Did you ever create your own designs, draw or paint? I was so fascinated with YSL's sketches in the show I saw. I am practicing fashion illustrating and his drawing inspired me to keep practicing so I can include that in my art. Thanks for sharing your experience! Have a good day!

Today, we went to the South Coast Plaza shopping center in Southern California. It is filled with top luxury brands as well as regular mall stores and department stores. So cool to see they have a Yves Saint Laurent store just called "Saint Laurent." Saint Laurent Store by Kelly Roberts, on Flickr

I hope one day I can go in person to both places. Thank you for those links! Have you heard of Madeleine Vionnet? She is credited with inventing the bias cut dress. All of her designs were created through draping on a reduced scale dress form, not sketched. I was fortunate to see the first large retrospective of her designs at Musée des Arts Décoratifs while we lived there. Exhibits of her designs are few and far between (there was one at the Met last year in NYC) but worth the effort to see if you ever have the chance. So cool that you studies fashion design. Did you ever create your own designs, draw or paint? I was so fascinated with YSL's sketches in the show I saw. I am practicing fashion illustrating and his drawing inspired me to keep practicing so I can include that in my art. While in school I realized that my talents did not include the vision and creativity required to be a designer. Although I do have a good eye for fashion and what works I don't really design my own clothes other than choosing fabrics and details. I probably drive the tailor who makes some of my custom clothing nuts! My focus was more on the fabric and textiles end of things. I think it's great that you sketch! Another skill I do not possess.

I have not heard of her and will check out more about her. Thanks for sharing this. Also, it sounds like you have found a way to be connect with your love of fashion by having some custom clothing. SO cool! I have loved fashion since I was a girl but never though at 50 plus I would be sketching and painting. So interesting how we circle back to our earlier passions. Take care and hope you have a nice rest of your week.

kellyr21 ----Yess!!!! I've loved (and drawn) fashion since my teen years. I loved to look at Vogue, Elle, and maybe another one I can't remember. My Mom went to Paris in 1981, she brought me back a copy French Vogue, which I always treasured and I'm pretty sure it's still in mint condition somewhere in my attic. I also still have several Vouges & Elles from the 80's. I was SURE I was going to study fashion in college (but I didn't). I've watched several documentaries about designers; possibly including YSL, but I'm not sure. I enjoyed your you-tube video very much I love how YSL combined unconventional color combinations; I've always loved orange and pink together, as well as brown with blue/green/ or pink. I also loved those greeting cards you showed. How cool that he also enjoyed making cards, like many of us scrapbookers do/did. I LOVE watching vids/ looking at photos of NY Fashion Week. Only been to NYC once; and wish we'd had time to go to the MET--- I hope to go someday. I hope you make it to all the museums you want to visit! I haven't peeked at the links you and G. Girl posted, but I will sometime. Do you watch The MET gala every year? It is just amaaaazing! I also used to watch "Project Runway"---the creativity of the designers astounded me! **GypsyGirl** ---How interesting that you studied fashion in college, and WOW! at touring that studio! (sorry, I read what you wrote twice, but not sure if this was one of his actual studios, or a replica). Either way, how cool! I hope you get to Morocco to see the place you mentioned. Ever since one of our favorite peAple said that you "dress to the nines", I wish I could see your wardrobe (oh wow....does that sound weird and stalker-esque? ) I've always loved/admired fashion---not trends---just classic, beautiful fashion that looks effortless for every day, but also---GOWNS! Omg, the gorgeous gowns....and SHOES!!! Thought you two might enjoy this: s:

I do love watching the fashion week shows and glad we can see them on YouTube. Some of these shows from 2023 inspired my art. If you want, check out my "Glitter & Glamour" Art Collection video. Link HereI did watch some of the Spring 2025 shows and still have a few more of the Paris ones to see. Yes, I do enjoy seeing the MET Gala, too. One of my favorites looks was the fashion model Iman from a few years ago with that gold costume. Oh, so beautiful. I've never been to NY or Europe but it would be so cool to visit some of these museums and fashion spots. Good luck to both of us. Thanks for sharing that video. I just loved seeing this fashion show and YSL designs. So fun seeing some of the same sketches I saw in the exhibit at the next stages: colored and on the runway. Wow! Thanks again for posting on this thread and have a good rest of your week.

kellyr21 and scrappintoee - Have you seen this documentary about Oscar de la Renta and the development of the pre-Fall 2024 collection? It's called A Sense of Beauty - A Documentary Film by Oscar de la Renta. I've only started it but it does look good.

I did see several of the episodes when they came out on YT. But I never saw the final part of this documentary. I will enjoy seeing that. So interesting to see the process they used before we see the final product on the runway. Also: This is off the subject but how did you add the YT video to your post?

**GypsyGirl** ....thank you for posting that--I've just started it and I love that they actually draw/paint on the dress (or, maybe it's just a muslin copy), but I never knew they did that. Makes sense, to see how the artwork/embellishments will look on an actual body. And then to see Jessica Chastain in the finished dress is so cool! I'm at the part where the artist is painting layers and layers of paint to find the perfect colors, which is so interesting; who knew that so many steps were involved?! kellyr21 ---- **GypsyGirl** is better at explaining technical instructions than me, but I'll attempt to explain in case she doesn't see this for a while. (**you have to use "REPLY" on this board to do this, *NOT* "quick reply) 1. open a new/separate window from this one 2. go to whatever youtube video you want to share 3. right click the URL of that youtube vid 4. come back to your open window here 5. You'll see a cute little black and white movie director's board (on the REPLY page, not quick reply) 6. Click the director's board, and choose the youtube icon 7. Once you put the youtube URL in the "video URL" box, your youtube vid should be there. **** If you ever want to share something from Instagram, it's similar, but instead of the little movie director's board, click the icon that says < / >

Wow, I just finished watching and he was an incredible man, designer, champion and businessman. I loved seeing his doggies, too. It was interesting how he embraced black models and was the first to feature them. That was revolutionary for the times! I really love that! Thanks so much for sharing this video. I enjoyed it! Also, thanks for sharing how to add a video to the post. I never saw that little movie icon and I have been posting here for YEARS. LOL! Thanks again!

I just saw the end of this video **GypsyGirl** and the designs really came to life. The tension and stress was real but it was still cool to see all the things they have to do to launch a new collection. The gowns were all so beautiful. That gold cage-y one surprised me. It looked great maybe not to wear in real life but for artistry it was a showstopper. Thanks for sharing this video.

kellyr21---Glad you enjoyed it! I had only watched a few minutes of it when I last posted. I'd saved it to watch later, but then ended up watching the whole thing right then. I also LOVE that he was the first to include black models, and I hadn't realized he was the first one who made masculine clothing look so chic on women. Also loved the (can't remember the French term) the dresses that are "color-blocked"---so mod and fun! Also reminded me of when color blocking was so de rigeur* in scrapbooking. *(I love the French language, and it's fun to use the few words I know).
