My doctor said I need to take vitamin d. I bit ago my bloodwork came back low, couple that with newly dx’d celiac disease. I just realized my vitamin d gummy (yes, a gummy bc I’m still 5yo) is actually d3. Does that matter? I’m so confused. FWIW, I did google it but I’m still confused. Also, what dosage is correct? When I asked my oncologist he kinda shrug and said 1000. I’m pretty sure (in bed so not checking atm) the gummy container said 5000.

From my understanding, D is the umbrella term used for both D2 and D3. D3 is the one that our body produces when exposed to sunlight. So I think you are ok with taking D3.

I take D3 because my D is always low. My doctor recommended 5000 IU per day.

I’m looking to increase mine as well. I do know that it’s important to also take K2 with D3. I currently take 3,000 but my levels are still right around 30 so I want to increase that amount but am not sure how much. I meet with the doctor to go over lab results on the 16th but it would be nice to start taking it sooner.

At my GPs recommendation, I’ve taken 5,000IU of D3 for years. It is my understanding is that D3 is most readily absorbed by the body.

I can answer this -- K2 helps get the Vit D to your bones and teeth. If you just do Vit D alone, it can sit in your soft tissues and not get to where you need it.

Before taking K2 check with your own physician to see if it is ok to do so. Also you may want to clarify the amount of Vitamin D3 that you should be taking. vitamin D3 is available over the counter and usually come in 1000 and 5000 unit gel caps and is light sensitive. Vitamin D2 is available in 50,000 unit doses and taken once weekly and requires a prescription and usually these days pre-authorization. Vitamin D3 OTC in the amount and frequency your physician tells you to take is usually just as effective if your numbers are not extremely severe.
