A round the world cruise ship has been stranded in Belfast for quite a few months. It was in Belfast to be outfitted and then some extra repairs were needed and the passengers have been in Belfast for all that time. Today looks like the day they get to set sail on their three year round the world trip. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn4y7q2dyndo

This is a very interesting situation. I read your link, and then later yesterday heard the ship finally left port but then woke up this morning to the news it had to return to port already!! Something about "paperwork". Do you think this is really going to happen?
If it was me, I'd be very suspicious of the quality of the ship and the financial viability of the company and the cruise at this point. Fascinating that so many of them purchased their cabin (minimum 15 year ownership guarantee) verses purchasing the first 3 year cruise.
I can't imagine how these people are keeping up a good attitude after all of this but I hope it works out for them. The ones featured in the videos seem like really fun people.

SweetieBugs, we've been following the to and fro of the boat, repairs, paperwork etc, it's been quite a saga so far. Hoping they finally sail tomorrow. I personally would never sell my home and all I own to finance a cabin with an end date.

Many of these people will be into their late 80's and early 90's.

I can't imagine how these people are keeping up a good attitude after all of this but I hope it works out for them. The ones featured in the videos seem like really fun people. I don’t see why the passengers/residents might not have a good attitude after this - people who live on a cruise ship are surely people who are up for an adventure and I can absolutely see them thinking of a 4-month break in another country as an adventure. All their accommodation and meal costs were taken care of, just as though they were cruising, so the company is obviously doing everything they can to look after everyone. The article about it in our local paper said that many people took the opportunity to visit other parts of Europe. It is to be expected that the ship would need to be docked periodically for maintenance and repairs - would anyone really like to be on a ship that didn’t dock for that??? The 3-4 month delay was unfortunate but doesn’t say anything about the quality of the ship or the financial viability of the company - much of that time could well have been waiting for parts to be shipped to them from another country. I would love to live on a cruise ship like that; and I’d love to say that I would do it in a heartbeat but I’m afraid I’m not quite that brave. I like financial security and so although I like the idea of heading off on such an adventure, I couldn’t do it in our present circumstances. If I won lotto though, then yeah I’d give it a go, knowing that I could come back & buy a house if it didn’t work out.

I think I could handle about a year of living on a ship! That would be so much fun!!! But at this point, I'd just love a back to back cruise!!
