Texture Tuesdays Hosted by
grammadee 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/147756/cardtober-texture-tuesdays10/1 use ribbon or twine. Anything from a simple bow to part of the card front being wrapped in floss to a raffia angel will work to meet this challenge.
10/8 This week I want you to think of something soft, like velvet ribbon or flocked pp. No need to create your own flocked surface (and I know some of you cringe when you think of loose glitter or flocking fuzz taking over your craft room). Use a piece of ribbon or fabric if you have no crafting supplies that will work. You don't need much, just a touchable tidbit.
10/15 Use a scoreboard and stylus to provide interest.
10/22 Another texture challenge for ya! Many card makers use embossing folders to amp up the impact of their cards. But for this challenge, I want you to go one step further, and find a way to emphasize that embossing.
10/29 TEXTURE FREE FOR ALL! Your task is to add any type of texture you like to your card. If you dry emboss? Wonderful! Want to heat emboss for puffiness or shine? Super! Use textured materials? Go for it! Use something tried and true, or try something new, but add some texture in some way to your card!
Product Playtime Wednesdays Hosted by:
angel97701 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/147780/cardtober-wednesdays-product-playtime?page=1&scrollTo=418438310/2 Washi it up! Dig out one or many different washi tapes and use them as a focal point or embellishment on your card.
10/9 Glitter, glitter Everywhere! Click on the title to go directly to the sample card.
Use glitter paper, loose glitter, glitter washi, or glitter Stickles on your card.
10/16 Get Inky! Use ink to create the background on your card. In my example I used six different inks stenciled on a background that used the matching 3-D embossing folder. You can also blend inks like this card
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2024/01/winter-blue-ombre-with-retro-rubber.html or this card
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2023/01/a-winter-themed-birthday-card.html Another method is to brayer ink onto your card base.
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2024/07/slimline-sketch-at-retro-rubber.html Another fun way to use ink—directly ink your embossing folder and then emboss white cardstock. See this blog post
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2024/09/fall-color-challenge-at-retro-rubber.htmlThis card shows many other ways to create backgrounds.
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2024/09/fall-sketchytime-at-retro-rubber.html as it comes from the scraps of a bunch of different techniques over the last 15 years.
10/23 Tie it up with two or more ribbons or fibers—For this challenge you are to use at least two different ribbons. They can be tied together in a bow, or used in some other way. In my sample I wove together 8 different scraps of ribbon from my left-over ribbon jar. This example on my blog shows three ribbons/fibers tied together to decorate a gift box.
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2022/12/vertigo-christmas-gift-box-with-stazon.html Threading the ribbons through a tag would also count.
10/30 Water color techniques! Many different products can be used to water color images besides the obvious.
In my sample I have a BetterPress plate of Raining Pumpkins . This card has a water color look because it is a direct to stamp coloring technique. h
ttps://snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2024/05/color-challenge-time-at-retro-rubber.htmlOn this card I created a palette of color on a scrap and picked up the Derwent Watercolor pencils with a fine tip brush and water.
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2024/05/retro-rubber-challenge-out-to-sea.html This card uses FireWorks! shimmer sprays to watercolor an image.
snippetscrafter.blogspot.com/2022/07/create-watercolor-sunflower-using.html My card for Challenge on Oct 8th used my new Derwent Inktense Watercolor Ink Pencils to create a palette to color the flowers in a mix of purple and magenta.
2peasrefugees.boards.net/post/4188032/thread Color Combo Thursday Hosted by:
joblackford 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/147796/cardtober-thursdays-color-combos?page=1&scrollTo=418488710/3 play with blues and oranges, maybe some yellows or browns too.
10/10 make it rainbow. It doesn’t have to be rainbow shaped, just in some way rainbow colored. It also doesn’t have to be a traditional tone or every color in ROYGBIV. In my examples I’ve used the Waffle Flower packaging rainbow + iridescent silvery cs, a simplified boho/muted rainbow, and a more traditional rainbow colored paper as a background behind a multi-colored image.
10/17 black and white + one color.
Your one other color doesn't have to be purely that one color, it can be shades of one color, or it can be a few colors but with one dominating. (Hopefully you all know that the goal is to be inspired by this as a starting point - if you think it counts, it counts!)
But anyway, if you can, try to make the card read as black and white and red, or blue, or orange...
10/24 Use a triadic color scheme. A couple of suggested triads are the classic Halloween green, orange, and violet/purple, or the primaries - red, blue, and yellow, or shades of pink, aqua, and yellow. Hopefully that will accommodate whatever kinds of cards you’re making.
Here’s a little guide from Catherine Pooler
www.catherinepooler.com/2021/02/24/party-color-wheel-101-triad-color-combinations/And one from Cathy Zielske
www.cathyzielske.com/2022/02/more-color-wheel-combos-for-cards-lets-do-another-triadic-scheme/10/31 easy peasy - use your favorite color on a card
That could be a color you love to wear or a color you love to craft with or just what you answer when someone refuses to accept "I love all the colors!" and makes you pick a favorite. Feel free to make any kind of card you like, include as much or as little of your chosen color as you like, and remember there's no favorite-color-police. No one is going to contradict you if you have a different favorite color today than when someone asks you another day
Loving Leftovers Fridays Hosted by:
scrapnnana 2peasrefugees.boards.net/thread/147808/cardtober-fridays-loving-leftovers10/4 Cut shapes with dies, using leftover scraps of card stock and/or patterned paper. Combine at least 3 of the die cut shapes into an embellishment cluster. Use a coordinating scrap to create a card front background, and add your embellishment cluster. Finish the card front with any additional leftovers that you wish to use, whether they are from a partially used package of bling, ephemera, or anything else that is leftover from past projects.
10/11This challenge is to use at least 3 pieces of left over ephemera* to create an embellishment cluster, then use the cluster as the focal point of your card. Use leftover card stock, patterned paper scraps, bling, and/or smaller ephemera, etc. to finish your card front.
*Ephemera in paper crafting are usually printed, cut out designs that come in a package. Ephemera may look like a ticket stub, mini bingo card, or a fully colored flower, butterfly, etc. However, if you don’t have any partially used packages of ephemera, you can use leftover stickers, or cut designs from leftover pieces of patterned paper. You could also stamp and color designs on leftover card stock scraps, then cut them out to create your own ephemera.
10/18 of “Loving Leftovers” is to create either a spooky or fall themed embellishment and card, OR create a cluster and card that represents where you live (my second card).
10/25 use leftover papers to create a card with one large, main embellishment cluster, and a second, small/mini embellishment cluster.

10/13 A patterned paper fun fold!
Good morning, Peas! Today's design is from Connie Stewart of SimplySimpleStamping.com. Connie is the first SU demonstrator I found on the internet and still one of my favorites. I like the variety of the projects she presents and that all of her content is free -- no subscribe to this or pay for that or give me you email address before you access! So I can freely share her printable and videos.
Connie's web post (which includes a video link):
simplysimplestamping.com/w-fold-pop-out-card-tutorial/ and the download:
simplysimplestamping.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/W-Fold-Pop-Out-Cards-7-2-24.pdfConnie's patterned paper version uses both sides of a double-sided paper and pre-cut die cuts/ephemera plus stamping. I used single sided paper, leftover cutaparts, and stamping. Use whatever you have that works for you. To meet the challenge, at least four of the six panels need to be patterned paper.
10/20 Here's the instructional video:
